  1. Off topic pretty much sums my thought patterns. Oh look a butterfly.............
  2. I think they used the same technique of training on those gerbils that are able to row the little boat and on the one that sits and says "row." The pig doesn't bother me much. But the thought that somewhere there is a Kia Soul being driven around by giant hamster from the hood scares the $#*& out of me. Hampster
  3. Wow this one is random but i was just cleaning up a bit an wondered... Why don't people use Shop-Vac's as a house vacuum? I have a $3,000 Rainbow and my $250 Shop Vac has twice the suction power. ???
  4. Bill nailed it. The 2312CI doesn't have the needed pre-outs so you will need a new avr if you want to use an amp. That then begs the question if you are going to use an external amp then you really don't need a full AVR you would be better off spending money on a solid pre/pro. I'm sure its been mentioned but Klipsch horns are very efficient you could run them off a clock radio. So a decent AVR will run your setup just fine. But if you really won't to blow your brains out and have all that uber headroom then separates is the way to go. I have my RF-82's, RC-64, and RS-62's running off an XPA-5 and love it. It is an appreciable upgrade over running them off my onkyo. Only Thing running off my avr are the rear surround RB-61's.
  5. I remembered this video I saw a while back. It's not the best production but it does state the case in a very simplified form. I'm a Panamax fan but any good conditioner should be like the one in the vid. ...err for some reason I can't embed the video so you will have to follow the link. Its a product page from Crutchfield. Look for the video below the picture. Panamax Video
  6. I have conditioners on everything and I give them as gifts to family members I like em that much. Benefits for me are rock solid surge protection for years and years. The little six dollar power strips supposedly stop one good surge but thats it. Most cheap strips can't take multiple "little" ripples in the power and there surge ability diminishes over time leaving you equipment totally exposed and you don't know. Even expensive ones don't last forever. I have an article on this somewhere if i can find it I will post it. BTW I lost $2,000 of computers one night in the 90's because of cheap surge protectors Second is clean stable power. You can google this. Others have stated it far better than I can. I like the idea of feeding my hungry amps clean consistent power. Stick an ohms meter in an outlet and just watch the numbers jump. I uses a Panamax 5300PM in the HT, a Monster 2500 in the living room rig, and a Cyber Power 1350AVR on the iMac in my HS. Belkin makes some reasonably priced units that seem to be pretty good. APC if you can catch them on sale are good deals. And Monster power for all its flaws make really nice conditioners. My Panamax does not have a readout for power consumption so I have no idea what I use. But I do know my power bill averages $50-$100 more now than before I built my theater.
  7. That pretty well sums up what I was thinking. Thanks for the input everyone.
  8. Then I got a little arts'y with the camera [8-|] AGAIN, CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VERSION And how about a screen shot or two!
  9. Well its been a while since I let anyone take a peak at what I've been up too. So I thought it might be a good time to share. Lots has been happening. Got a new pj for the holidays JVC RS45. Sometime around Thanksgiving I picked up a second RSW-10d sub (huge improvement over one). And there is a XPA-5 in the rack now. But if my wife asks I've had that old thing forever..[:|] So here is my baby! CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VERSION
  10. I admit I really don't understand the whole eq thing. I currently run an Onkyo tx-sr876 with audessy multiEq that is supposedly doing "room corrections" to help offset my odd shaped HT. But I am really curious about the soon to be Emotiva XMC-1. I know Emotiva uses Emo-Q. Question is does Emo Q do any of the supposed "room corrections"? That may be a dumb question but for all I know there could be a freak'n unicorn in my avr...
  11. Anyone have any experience with these so called "high quality" power cables. I have never given them much thought but anything to it? http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PSPWAC3&variation=3
  12. btw, I consider "small" speakers to be those cute little cubs I use a door stoppers.[]
  13. RF-82's are big boys. They can handle full range. But with a sub in the mix full range isn't the best option but you are probably losing something by setting the 82's as "small" in the receiver. Most AVR's have an option to manually set the crossover. if yours does switch the 82's from "small" to "80 hz". The exact same as the sub. That way the 82's pick up exactly where the sub stops. By the way I love my 82's good choice. As per the center question. Yes you need one. And you won't know how bad you've been needing one until you get one. I run the RC-64 with my 82's. Cheers,
  14. Anyone have any good links or ideas on DIY (or cheap) screen masking solutions? I've found a few ideas online but everything seems really shady or overly complex. I just want something simple but not ugly. Thanks
  15. Well done, I love seeing other peoples dedicated rooms. I am always on the prowl to steal..errr barrow some ideas.
  16. Congratulations. You know my view about the RSW-10d. Wish me luck in finding a second one in cherry. I know two of them will sound great. Bill Bill, when you finally find one you won't be disappointed. I will keep my ears open for any cherry ones floating around. Albert
  17. +1 for rw12d. It won't overpower the room. If you had any spare change I would say get two of them but you should be happy with one. For the money its a good deal on a respectable 12. wow.......... I think phone wire is like 28 gauge? .. I shall pretend I didn't read that [8-)] Normally I would say wire doesn't make a difference but in this case it should make an appreciable difference
  18. I agree with the monoprice recommendation. Every wire in my system came from them ( i.e. speaker wire, rca for subs, hdmi, banana plugs, everything) The insulting argument from cable companies is that "You spent a lot of money on those components you owe it to yourself to use this $170 interconnect. Its diamond platted!" TOTAL GARBAGE Monoprice all the way.
  19. Well to bing this story to a close the "second sub bug" has been on me hard for a while now. I thought If I resist it long enough it will flee. That didn't work out too well. I had basically decided to wait for the 115 to come out and see how it faired. Based on its quality I would make my decision for the 115 or 310. But then... I found by somewhat of an accident one sole RSW10-d for sale on amazon, brand spanking new. It would match my 10-d perfectly and deliver the quality of bass I am looking for. I know it only goes to 24 hertz and I am just fine with that. Sure digging to 16 hz would be great but with my budget it would be at the expense of quality tight bass. So after dragging my feet for a week thinking about it I bought it! At less than half the price i paid for my first one and I got a deal the first go round. Well it arrived today and HOLY COW! I have long heard about the benefits of two sub but, oh my! The bass from one RSW 10-d is fantastic but the second one brought a super tight clarity and distinct chest thump that I was looking for. Loaded up Transformer and the difference was tangible. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to tell a difference and had thrown away money but now I wish I had done this sooner. As a side not my wife is happy for me, but less than thrilled. Her only question was "Is the house going to shake more?... sigh" And yes it does.
  20. Thanks for the replies. I know I should consider used. I am just funny about my stuff. Everything I own is in pristine condition. Clean, regularly dusted, never anything set on top, looks fresh out the box. Maybe I'm just overly conscious of how many nails I had to drive to pay for it so I keep things nice. I've never understood people tearing up there own stuff. For example I was at my local AV store three weeks ago and they had a pair of used 63's for sale at a fair price but the speakers looked as though they had been to hell and back. Dents on the conners, cup circles on top, dent in the woofer, and fabric torn from the grills.
  21. Really been wrestling with getting a second sub over the past month. I have asked around here a bit and poked through shops looking for deals. I currently am running a rsw10-d and am pleased with it. I have had a few good deals roll by recently and the most recent is another rsw10-d brand new for 499.00. Which would match what I have and blend seamlessly. But then I read about the sw115 coming out and am curious. I could get a pair of those. My hang up is that it seems a bit cheap for a 15 and rather plain in build. I worry that Klipsch may have cut some conners in getting the prices down on the whole sw line of Subs. So while no one knows about the sw115 at this point there are sw line sub owners out there. And while the 15 should dig deeper its sonic character should be similar to whats being seen out of the other woven woofers. So you guys that have sw subs how would you compare the sound and quality to that of the older klipsch subs? Anyone think that I should pull the trigger on the other rsw10-d or could the new 15's possible blow the very clean and accurate rsw10d out the window?
  22. Anyone got any thoughts on the cons of mixing the new RF-7's with the old RC-64. I'd be replacing some RF-82's. Would they sonically blend i.e. timber matching, sound stage? Would selling my 64 for the new 64ii be necessary? I know the 82's tweeter didn't exactly match the 64's but I had always planned on selling the 82's and getting 83's after recouping from the financial sting of buying a whole system at once. But seeing as you can't find the 83's anymore (and i don't like used) the RF-7's may be in the future?
  23. Power conditioning through Panamax 5300ex (I think it the model). Which I never power off. Just turn the components off.
  24. Alright audio geniuses I need some trouble shooting help. I have started getting a crackling kind of sound from one of my mains. The sound is sporadic but seems to be showing up consistent. First noticed it a month or so ago. Seems now to be showing up with more frequency. I have switched the mains around and it is not the speaker itself. The noise stays on the R front regardless of whats there. I have checked the wiring, seems good. Not as noticable at really low volumes and at reference level the bass covers it up. The noise is not input specific (xbox, apple tv, etc). Here is the details: RF-82's: Onkyo tx-sr876 (140w per channel) 82's can take 150w, shouldn't be a over power problem.: Mains cross over set at 80hz: System has been in place and running for 3 years. Probably 2,000 working hours I am fearing this is a reciever issue. Any thoughts???
  25. Thanks for the quick replay guys. ANd no worries on the mix up K5SS, however my heart did briefly stop at the though of selling my RSW10 So as fate would have it, to throw another wrench in the pile I just left my dealer from picking up some new toys (yeah!) and he offered me an incredible deal on a SW-310. I don't think i should say the price on here. (its that good!) So then begs the question of how would the SW-310 pair up with my RSW10d? The two are very similar to my ear. Would the sw in the same room as the rsw10 be of any real benefit over the 12d? Worth some extra money over the insane new egg price? Or would the 12d be more than capable of helping the rsw10 smooth out the null areas in my room? Thanks guys!
