  1. I recently purchased a pair of epic cf4 and in the next few weeks plan on doing many mods. With much help from Moray James and some research i have done on my own on other epic mods I am ready to begin. These are version 2. Once i finish with mods and everything is done i am going to try them with the 6" port (essentially dropping the tuning and turning them back into ver 1) and see what i like better. Just FYI. So i will be doing a complete brace job. I have already removed speakers and horn and started bracing today so this is were my pics starts. More details on bracing to come. I have ordered and received a pair of EV dh1506 compression drivers. These things are MASSIVE compared to the stock compression drivers. I have not heard them for speakers are bare. Pics to come. I have ordered S.A.E. rated f11 felt, which i will be placing donuts of felt on top of the spider/around the woofer, on the inside gasket of the speakers and also a chamber will be formed behind each woofer. Pics and details to come. I also ordered dynamat to place around the Horn to dampen the horn and will also place around the steel frame of the speakers and other areas. Pics and details to come. My crossovers are over at Bob Crites getting recapped. I will post as my project moves along and I am open to all suggestions and opinions and questions. This is my first time ever doing ANY type of mod to any speaker so this is a learning process for me. I am very excited... Special thanks to Moray James. He has literally spent countless hours with me on phone and through emails helping me out. I appreciate it. On to the pics.... Alex
  2. Yes i plan on raising them and am speaking to Moray through pm's on further mods. They are the version 2. Right now i have a marantz 2252b powering them, not even close to the power they need to sound as good as they can. I got a marantz 2330 locally, which is being recapped which i will throw on them when it returns. Ill try biamp with the crest amp i have for the woofers and the 2330 on the tweets (or vise versa) and i will really see what these speakers have to offer;) I have a lot of fun heading my way. Ill post reviews and comparisons in the 2 channel section in the weeks to come. I have read that the cf4 trumps the khorn. Well see if i agree. FYI, I have a fisher 500c on the khrorns as well. So i will be switching amps/receiver on speakers till i find what i like best. What i like least i will post for sale here on forum in the future. No way i can keep all this equipment. Alex
  3. Here is a closer up of khorn besides the cf-4. Alex
  4. As promised here is the pic. Just so you can compare physical size between C-4 and khorn. I will start a thread soon comparing the sound between the two. Alex
  5. OP back in the convo. Been MIA and working like an animal. I decided with this. http://www.beresford.me/products/TC-7533.html Had for just under 250 shipped and recommended by another forum member. Came in yesterday and initial listening i am very very happy. I use itunes, youtube, soundcloud, mixcloud, and pandora for most of my listening. I am really not to computer savy and as crazy as it sounds i had not heard of a DAC until about 1 month ago. I always thought this was it when it came to listening to music from your computer and accepted it as such. I love music and have been heavily into audio for over 10 year now, just FYI. In the future yes i have much to learn about the different music and how currently i am listening to 256kb and exploring options as to higher quality music on my laptop. I really dont like the idea of spending more $ on music. I currently have 5000 + songs and could not imagine paying more for songs... This is a option i need to explore. I really do appreciate you help and advice guys. I have more homework and research to do. Alex
  6. I can take better pics tomorrow. The cf4 actually looks a little monstrous and intimidating next to the khorn.
  7. Front side pic. Port is exactly 2.5" deep
  8. So yes i picked up the speakers and they are here in my living room. They look beautiful:)
  9. This is a picture with the cables inside the speaker and also the back of the woofer. It is clear monster looking cable so should be the ver 2 correct?
  10. Seller is going to double check which cf it is and also the port length. I will let you guys know. Alex
  11. I contacted the seller and he said they are the cf-3. He is the original owner and said they are mint condition. I am not sure what version or how long the ports are. Alex
  12. Thanks so much for all of your help and input. Minemark thanks for the offer but i will pass. So as of right now i am tossed between the Bushmaster mkII tc-7533 and the Maverick audio tubemagic d2. They both have good reviews and it is hard making a decision when i have never heard either unit.... I do NOT need a head phone amp so in the bushmaster this is useless. And as Craig and Bill said i am not sure if pairing a tube DAC is a good idea with the already tubed 500c BUT the Maverick tubemaster does have tube and reg analog output so i can try them both out and see what i like best. I know i say i am after the best sq i guess i wish i knew which unit would sound best, i guess impossible to know without actually hearing both on my system. Craig i did a little research and the DAC-01A you suggested seems to have mediocre reviews. Please correct me if i am wrong? My budget is ~300 and really dont care to spend a extra 100bux and get better sound. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions guys. Alex
  13. I have been hearing about this Maverick Audio D2. I am going to look into it. Thanks Alex
  14. Whenever I buy any piece of sound equipment I always make sure to do my research to make sure I am getting a good piece that fits my likings, I take my audio very seriously. Craig so I have been doing my reading. As if now, I am leaning towards a bushmaster mkII tc7533. Can be had for about 250 shipped, new. I have been reading some great reviews and most people say it sounds MUCH better than the bifrost and the Cambridge audio dacmagic plus. This is just what I have been reading and some info I gathered. It is suppost to be forward sounding, detailed, non grainy highs, and also strong articulate bass. All things i am looking for. I was recommended the bushmaster by GORM. I still have a few more DAC's which I have in mind and want to do some more research over. I know sound and sq is highly subjective but I will do my best, do my reading and make the best decision I can. If anyone has any more suggestions I am VERY open to them all and thank you for your help. Alex
  15. Sorry to repeat the post guys but it looks like the old post thread went bad and i am unable to view post. I was unable to see last few posts. In a nut shell looking for a DAC with a 300$ budget to use with fisher 500C and khorns. I still need to do some more research and a few good ones were suggested on other thread. Want to see if anyone can suggest a particular DAC, which maybe works well particularly well on the 500C and khorns. Suggested which i am looking into is a schiit bifrost and a cambridge audio dacmagic plus. Some one locally is selling a california audio labs sigma ii tube DAC. Does any one have any experience with this DAC? Any and all help is appreciated. Alex
  16. Some one locally is selling a california audio labs sigma 2 DAC. A tube DAC. Any thoughs on this DAC?
  17. Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions. I have done some more research and i think i am going to go with a outboard DAC. That cambridge you suggested BIll looks very nice and has good reveiws. Can be had at 300 new which i think it right about my upper end budget limit. I checked my local craigslist and someone was selling a emotiva XDA-1 for pretty cheap but i did not like the reveiws so out of questions for me. What is most important to me is the sound. I know SQ is very subjective and everyone is going to have a different opinion on what sounds better to them but i will do my research and pick something to the best of my ability. So at a 300$ limit, i am definatly willing to go used, any other suggestions? Thank you, Alex
  18. I currently have a fisher 500C (which is on its way back from getting restored) running a pair of khorns with a sub. 2.1 channel. I use my computer (2008 macbook) for 80% of listening, whether it be pandora, soundcloud, itunes, mp3's, youtube, etc. It was not until VERY recently i heard about these DAC's or soundcards. I currently use the mini head phone jack cable which converts to RCA cable (bought on amazon) and i plug that into the back of the fisher. I have been doing some research and cant find my exact answer. What exactly do i need? What would you guys recommend for me? This would be used for the sole purpose as described above, from my computer to fisher. No signal going back to my computer, i do not use phono, and i do not use headphone, no tape player, no cd. My budget i would say is a couple hundred bucks. I saw some cheap ones and some very expensive ones so i am not sure what $ i am even looking at. I do want it to sound good, i dont know if there would be a particular piece i should be looking for running the fisher and tube equipment and all. Thanks for any and all help, Alex
  19. I would pick these up but i simply dont have the space or need. Nice upgrades and speakers at a great price. I have bought from Michael before, twice, great straight up guy. Good luck with sale. Alex
