  1. Sorry TH- WInchester is about out of audio cash- til next check around mid july. I got just enough to finish my projects- then back to dreaming and waiting for the next round. Buying boxes sleeves for vinyl today with good advice- as always from the forum-still looking for some Traveling Wilburys vinyl- nothing on AG.- Take a 2nd out on your house and buy those Tannoys- We all will come over and listen. Heading down to Cigarbums tomorrow for mods tunes and booze. Should be a good day Ben -thought my beer habit was bad- ginger at 2.79 a pop- wow- had no idea Ace- you are officially buying- make mine Jonny Walker Blue if you please Fini- hope the back medicine is doing its thing. Had a flare up myself Mon/tuesday. Better now after some Pain killers and exercises. Gotta move some k horn stuff this weekend- I hope I dont get another flare up as a result. Cheers gentlemen- a great weekend to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. You will find a few dissenting opinions but the Jolida is pretty much the slam dunk CD player on this forum for tubes and Heritage. Cambridge has some recently discontinued models- I have one my self- for around 350- they are the deals in the Bang for the buck dept. For my money camp out on AG and grab a used Jolida when one comes up arounde 600.000 used- 1000 new- if you want to buy new- PM me- I know a few dealers that discount them. With the jolida you can roll tubes and change the sound to suit you- a no brainer IMHO for anything under 2500.00
  3. It is all a matter of cost- you can pick up the old tube gear at a reasonable cost- still murders the Solid state except for megabuck stuff seen on AG. Not fair to compare a 500.00 old tube example to a set of VRDs or P cats- I have never heard a Vintage Marantz but i understand that certain ones kick butt. Thre was one on e- bay taht sold for 2800.00 recently- VRD money
  4. I have a VPI record cleaner 16.1 or something like that the 500-600 dollar model. Does one side at a time I have not unpacked it yet - been using an older Thorens cleaning set that another forum member gave me because he does not listen to vinyl. I t works OK but need to do some serious cleaning .The machine came with a small bottle of their cleaner and some concentrate- I have heard that this stuff is krap. Any suggestions of what / where to buy and any proceedure tips are appreciated. Sorry if I already asked previously. bought the mofi sleeves- inner and outer- some boxes and dividers- also the reccomended dry brush. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Check out integra- I have heard good things from others. You cannot lose with Emotiva- Outlaw or B & K - I am running 2 B&K outboards with a carver 3 channel- Sony Da 4300 ESHT receiver with all heritage- Sound great . if I had it to do over again I would look for a 7 ch HT Pre processsor and skip the receiver amps. the Sony is OK but I think the other stuff reccomended may be better. Do not be afraid to put the power to the Heritage stuff. 10 watts will drive my k horns in 2 ch mode but the 250 wpc carver makes them sound fantastic in HT mode. Bear in mind that the wattage ratings on HT receiver amps are seroiusly overrated in most cases. My 100 wpc rated Sony ws inadequate for my reference stuff before I switched to Heritage.buying Outboards fixed it big time.
  6. Vinyl rookie question- I have a number of old vinyl albums- Some sleeves are paper some are onion skin(plastic) . What is best- where to buy? thanks very much.
  7. you will eventually get me killed- negative WAF overload- Isurvived the last episode- dont want to push my luck ... yet[6]
  8. WOW what a beautiful arm A supposedly new SME 3009 unmodded series II sold for 2025.00 on e-bay 2 days ago. Original box and condition started a bidding war. 42 or 48 bids. Happy seller I would say.
  9. Awesome- really awesome- thanks for sharing-I remember them well from back in the day- sorta[]
  10. IMHO you are pretty much spot on with your comments. We spend thousands to go back in time and defeat compression and digital. Personally- I hate IPODS- MP-3- Digital cameras-package HT setups and technology in general. We jumped through these hoops in the audio world and guess what??? The old stuff sounds better. What good ia a 20 k set of new tech speakers if it takes 3 million watts to run them and they sound like garbage at anything less that 120 db? I argee with JL that the old horn technology is the greatest. I love my stack of SS amps for HT . For this application they do an excellent job. But you gotta go old school for 2 ch IMHO. Nice thread
  11. Bummer- nothing worse than a big tab and marginal/average chow. Great to hear the news Ace- congrats- I see another set of rare CWs in[] your future. And maybe a stainless steel pipeline running from the beer store to your den[Y] [Y][D] Headed down to Cigarbums place Sat for the K horn mods and some alcohol research[D] [D]. Still shopping for vinyl. Hope to have my TD125 set up by next week Sipping on a 250.00 bottle of Italian cab- 1996- sold for 50 bucks a pop from a bankrupt resturant inventory. Is it worth 250???? Hell no- never- 50 bucks??- all day long!!! Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. they have any beach/shag music that you can think of.. That is the main theme of the place. Let me know if you need help finding anything there. I am in the place twice a week at least.
  13. OK this is the OMG thread on steaks. For years I cooked on Webbers- varoius charcoal grills - smokey Joes- what have you. After 30 years I have found a better way. We marinate our steaks in fresh garlic- olive oil- salt - pepper- and a dusting of Tony Sachrie- cajun spices. I pre heat the oven to 450. I fire up the side burner on the webber( stove burnewr inside works as well- just smokes up the house. Dry the steaks with a paper towell- Sear the steaks on both sides for about 5 nins depending on the pan heat. After seared on both sides- transfer the pan to your preheated oven adding a pat of unsallted butter to each steak.. cook for 6-9 mind depending on thickness. Trust me - this is to die for if you have a decent grade of meat. A cordom bleiu chief taught me this method. Throw your charxoal grill in the trash and try this. This is the "secret" of the high buck chains serving 40 dollar steaks. Try this and let know what you think. My guests were sopping up the blood/juice with a piece of sourdough and raving about how good this is. handshakes andhigh fives all around. Enjoying a Lewellen 2000 cab- Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. believe it or not they just opens up a store here a month ago- thanks for the tips
  15. prof thump the hall monitor?????/ that 's a good one I figured it was toast anyway so what the heck?? At least it was not my thread... this []time Sorry about the timing
  16. Fini- harry told me about it. he sent me the link on e bay. it said new- in box never used. pics were taken out of the box- harry said that he thought it may not be absolutely from the way some connectons looked. I do not know enough my self to make that call. It was very very nice- but 2025.00-???? stupid money IMHO Ace Great news- hope it comes together for you. sitting at work- drinking ... bottled water..[]
  17. tax slave and hating every minute of it- is it 2010 yet????? in before the nuke[]
  18. JB- you got the GCPH or the 3??? The factory will make it better than like new for 200 + shipping- Is yours AC or battery? I guess you opted not to hang the Pallidums from the tree like I suggested???[:^)] Trying some audioquest IC cables from the peach 2 to the PS pre to warm things up a bit for now. HOLY **&^&- A supposedly NIB SME unmodded 3009 tonearm broght $2025.00 on E bay today[:^)] Nice tonearm but somebody was smoking something. I guess people get excited when they see a box... An[ audio equipment box ... that is[] Sipping on a Ketel Citron with lemon and tonic- delicious Cheers
  19. yep- several angry goose incidents- A huge cottonmouth dropped into our jonboat on Santee Cooper once. Got him out from under the metal seat with starting ether. Not a happy camper Hint- those geese are T bone steak under 5 pounds of feathers- I know firsthand[6]
  20. TH - allow me to retract my previous statement about losing warmth on the PS audio pre. The unit has some some high end caps that need 100 hrs to mellow out. The darn thing is getting better and better as it burns in. one man band keeping the bar open this weekend Listening to some killer vinyl on the tubes Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I amon a tear buying old vinyl. i have no present method for storage. Man cave is crammed full of stuff- gun safes- 7 heritage speakers + a sub- one of the room stacked to the ceiling with amps and HT stuff- tool roller cabs- wine racks- bookshelfs-you name it. I have a few area beside couches and under a computer desk and hell... maybe in the middle of the room.- No room on the side wall for shelves or cubbyholes. Any innovative ideas more interesting than plastic milk crates????
  22. Just curious to see if anybody has ever been here or knows the owner? thousands of old vinyl albums- 45s 78s- Stuff piled everywhere- the guy has no clue what he has in stock from what I saw. Picked up som real steals on old albums.
  23. I have K horn fronts 12 feet apart- cornwall surrounds 3 feet from my listening chair- Lascalla center 8 feet from listening chair- Industrial lascal rears 12 feet apart and about 10 feet behind me. All lascalas are on 18" risers-biult from felt- concrete block and plywood- to achieve universal horn height ( which made a hellofa difference). The room is 14 x 25 crammed full of stuff- definitely not the best of listening circumstances- But the overkill power of the system overcomes the negatives and makes it sound like a pair of headphones in HT and 2 channel. IMHO- dont be afraid to put big speakers close together in a smaller room-as for the WAF factor- the do eventually get over it[6]
