  1. Mike - With your "'wall of Belles" I doubt seriously if you will be switching models anytime soon. I think maybe the 3 fronts/center Belles are getting lonely for 2 more in the back?????? Yes- I can cause trouble.
  2. Oldtimer- DO NOT---Repeat--- DO NOT Test drive a Cayman unless you have your checkbook ready. I did and bought one within the month. I changed the chrome accents to all black and added a Borla exhaust. It is a mid engine rocket on steriods. Razor sharp handling. Complete control at the limit. Blindingly stupid fast. No service issues period. Best car that I have ever owned. Be afraid- stay away from them- they will get your money.
  3. Based on your"modest" audio setup I would think that you have a big target on your back when wifey starts cashing in points. Always nice to know what I should expect going foward. The trial run at the condo was just a -yeah it runs OK- deal and that all I expected. There is a local guy here that has a newish set of k horns and a mac 275 that I was allowed to listen to once recently through a friend/ gun buddy. An old friend of mine had a set back in the 80s. We had a stocking dealer in charlotte at one time that kept K horns and the whole line. So yes, I have been around these things off and on for 25-30 years- just never could afford a set or justify the expense.I never though that I would own a set but I guess this was the perfect storm all things considered. I am just fortunate that someone found these that already had better stuff and did not need them for themselves. I had an idea of what these might sound like in this room - particularry after buying the Cornwalls which blew me away- but my expectations wer far exceeded when I actually fired them up. Thanks again for making this deal work. One thing is for sure- they have to have good corner details to work properly..
  4. She has not said much about it- too late now- If she doesn't like it- let HER try to move those monsters out- not happening I took an invisible pill this morning- keeping a low profile I am waiting for her to go out so I can really crank them up This thing worked itself under the radar pretty well- so far.
  5. Picked up k horns and lascallas yesterday. Moved my Cornwalls to surround duty. Previously mu 2 ch speakers powered bt mac 2105/ c34V- 105 WPC -SS. I am using a Denon 610 as CD as my search for a jolida or an esoteric continues. Somewhat tainted by this but here goes. I waited with worried anticipation to see how the k horne stacked up against my Cornwalls. I loved the Cornwalls with the mac- still do. Different deal altogether. The Cornwalls come off to me more like a hard rock junkies dream. The high are piecing at times finding their way through the base. The Cornwalls sounded as if there was 1 speaker in the middle of the room with the voices out front and the instruments in the rear. The contrast betwen high and low with the booming base has to be one of the most pleasing speakers that I have ever heard. Definitely a crowd pleaser. Most people would listen to this speaker and decide immediately that this was exactly what they were looking. I have driven this speaker with everything from a Sony HT to a 250 WPC Carver along with the 105 watt mac SS.I have places this speaker in all kinds of position for a variety of applications. IMHO this is the most versatile, easy to set up and use, totally idiot proof speaker on the planet. It doesnt get much better. A set of these for 600-900 is the easiest no brainer decision that you will ever make. Next we hooked up the k horns powered by the Mac. From the first note, my 2 sons and I stood open mouthed and dunbfounded by these speakers. It was 2am and the last thing that i wanted was to wake up the lady sleeping at the other end of the house. At like 3 on the preamp we could still carry on a conversation and hear every note on the CD.The room was filled literaly an ocean of sound. The room was like a giant headphone. Louder tunes this morning revealed extended bass notes and un believable sounds that i have never head before in my listening area.I have a nice tight fit to the corners with hard wall surfaces all around. I was worried after reading some of the coments rgarding k horn placement. I guess I got lucky in that aspect. The k horns are more like walikng into a small auditorium with great acoustics with a symphony orchestra where as the Cornwlls are like walking into a small nightclub with a rock band cranking it out.The higher notes are unbelievable and the bass- although not as in you face and booming as the cornwalls fills the room and has a character unlike no other that I have ever heard.I disagree with those who say that the bass is lacking on the k horn. This may be due to corner fit and placement.IMHO the k horns are more sensitive to amplifier choices than the Cornwalls. I have heard the horns with 2 different tube amps and my Mac 2105. The tubes are definitely warmer where as the SS stuff seem more "Crisp????"I am having difficulty describing the difference that I am hearing but at this point I am not totally sure that I am sold on the tubes. A side by side comparion in my listening area would be nice before any final decision would be made.I would advise anyone who has the cash and the corners required for these speakers to try and find an opportunity to listen to a set before buying anything. If you are patient, a fine example of the Horns can be had for around 2k for the pair. I have not heard the jubilees at this point. In my mind this is the ultimate untli something else comes along to change my mind. I plan to hook my Lascallas up as 2 channels for a test run also at the first opportunity.
  6. GOT THE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!- Hooked 2 K horns up as fronts/2ch-MAC2105-2 ch- Carver 250 WPC-A753- front/ center amp- mover my Cornwalls to surround duty powered by HK 870- lascallas for rears powered by B&K 4420. center is an RC64 powered also bythe 3 ch carver 250 WPC. The system is freaking awesome. The 3 of us who installed the setup just sat there with our mouths hanging open when we fired up the k horns. The room is fairly small for thie setup 14 x 25- 9 ft ceiling- The system is like an ocean of sound. I noticed more sounds/ 5/ 7 channel material from the surrounds/rears- I guess due to the fact that these heritage are so efficent. This setup will require some tweaking/ and amp matching. The RC 64 will go when I find a heritage center- leaning toward another lascalla. One important observation- just opinion of course- Cornwalls blended in to a reference/ heritage combination workmuch better than k horns or Lascallas. You can IMHO get away with mixing an RC 64 and other reference stuff with Cornwalls- not ideal but dooable. Don't even think about trying to do it with any of the K horns- belles- or lascallas. horns ard different and itis (not bad) but noticable. I still like the reference stuff and it absoultely kills everything in its price/size class. I wish i had cash /space in another room to play with a 7 series HT setup just for grins. The heritage line is a totally different animal. If you decide to go the heritage route - plan to spend money-move stuff around- deal with the wife.
  7. Well- the heritage goodies are in place and everything is working. We left the house at 7 am and rolled back into my driveway an 10 PM. We ate a quick dinner of baby back ribs washed down with Pilsner uqrell and started moving stuff/hooling up. We completed the instalation without a hitch ( IT CAN HAPPEN). Coytee- Richard had made this this "unusual little" case to hold the Ortofon cartridge. It looked llike Rubics cube or something. We all got a laugh over that. I had ordered a cargo van with a flat floor from Enterprise. Instead I got a 15 pasenger church van looking POS that had seat mounts that stuck up everywhere and caused a number of issues loading/unloading. I am going to have a word with someonw about this on Monday. OF course it was not ready when we got there and someone had to remove 4 rows of seats. If you ever embark on a similar project- like moving 2k horns- 2 Lascallas, a sub, a plie of components, and misc stuff- make sure you have a proper vehicle with a flat floor. This turned into a major PIA. The trip was murder but the stuff is now safe in my living room. The wife was tired and hungry when we got in. We ate dinner and she went to bed - hardly noticed the move in ----YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went out the night before and I dropped a couple hundred on a V - day dinner. I also took her out to breakfast early Sat morning. I would reccomend similar action when making a major purchase of large components that would attract her attention This was a 15 hour deal not counting unloading/installing.. I got to bed at 3AM this morning. I don't want to hear anybody whining about a 5 or 6 hour round trip to pick up components. A million thanks to Richard for killng his whole Sat to make this thing happen. Thanks for negoating a deal that would benefit both parties. .Richard is typical of the first class people that you meet on this forum. If anybody is loonikg at his stuff on the garage - I can attest to the quality and condition of the items as much better than described I will share my thoughts on the K horns-Lascallas in another thread.
  8. Heading down the Interstate to meet Coytee for the exchange. Took the little lady out last night to Dean & delucia's$$$$$ for sushi and champange. More of my audio funds gone. I call it cheap life insurance. All she knows at this point is that i will have some new/USED(not very expensive) speakers. I took great care to hide the hienkel kitchen knives before I Left. The things we go through to get STUFF!!!!!!!!!

  10. I was drafted in 72 near the end - went into the Air Force as an alternative- did not want to be there- caused trouble constantly- got into fights- went AWOL chasing women for days at a time- woke in jail on several occasions- Had enough Article 15s to wallpaper my room. Finally got asked to leave for punching out a T ech -SGT- E-7- at 4 in the morning- He deserved it. Guess I got it out of my system. Never got into trouble again after that. Indeed a strange time in many lives. Many of my school friends came back in body bags.Bad chapter in American history. i
  11. I am very familiar with that ride. Bought my Porsche from hammersley in Roanoke . Nice ride except for virgina's finest and their radar traps. I am a mac junkie and would love to take a ride up and hear your sutff. I will be looking for a Cayenne when the lease runs out on my tahoe in May so maybe I can stop by durng the same trip. After this Saturday I will have K horns- Lascallas- and Corwalls and 1 mac amp so far, thanks for the invite- consider it a done deal within the next few months. I
  12. Yep - I am screwed- Yamaha Direct drive with Grado wood cartridge Pm sent - also e-mail.
  13. LMAO- MY attempt to get some insider wine bargain tips from the Calif crowd has degenerated to urine jokes and Old english malt liquior reviews. I would have expected no less from this crowd. COOL!!!! The high point of my awful day at work was reading all the funny posts to this thread. I laughed until my co workers thought I was losing it. Cigarbum - That is just wrong to torture us working folks like that. You should be sentenced to a month of drinking nothing but Inver House and smoking Swisher Sweets. Johny Walker bule my @##. JK Earlier this evening- Double Aristocrat vodka and tonic with lots of lime while getting a haircut... YUK!!!!! tasted terrible but it was free and I got a buzz. Now- Flinders Run Shiraz- 2005- Southern Flinders ridges- South Australia- 28.00- taste like 50.00- Big jammy Shiraz with 18 months of Fench and American oak. Extremely well done- BRAVO-This one has much of the taste of the stupid money Aussies such as Grange- Run Rig- and the Dead Arm / D' Arrenburg. If your price point is in the 25-30 range- as min is - don't miss this one. It is amazing at this price point. Wifey is cooking chicken- so I may finish up with a white dessert/ice wine. Yeah I know- based on my recent Heritage purchases and a wrecked house- check closely for poison.
  14. Mike- E-mail sent. Looks like there is a turntable in my future as well.
  15. Scotch is definitely a weekend pastime with a good cuban. Make mine 15 yr Balvinnie -16 yr Lagavulen(cant spell) or12 yr old unchillfiltered Coila. Springbank also gets an honorable mention in multiple varieties. If you worked here I work - you would drink during the week.
  16. Just opened a bottle of L'bivez Syrah- Mendocino Cunty -CA 2006 This was a big boy that hit the closeout list recently. I bought 2 cases. At 18 bucks it rocks. The bad economy is a wine drinkers gold mine. I hate it for the producers and employees. But while it lasts ,I am drinking 40 and 50 dollar bottles for half price or less. This Syrah is drinking great!!!! At 13.7% alcohol there is some ripe juicy fruit but plenty of structure on the backside. Not at all flabby. Definitely a buy. My beer, Vodka, and Burbon is still screaming retail- We need a govt bailout!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I am picking up my Heritage HT speakers this Saturday!!!!!!!! K horn fronts/ 2 channel- Lascalla rears- existing Cornwall surrounds. RC 64 center until I can find a single Heritage that works. Dont have any idea where all this stuff from 2 systems is going to go but I will figure it out.My wife is going to shoot me dead on the spot but hopefully she will at least let me hear them first before she pulls the trigger so I can die happy. Bringing home 4 heritage speakers on valentines day should be worth at least 10 man on the Man law scorecard. I really hate to sell my Reference speakers but I could not convince my wife that she needed a HT system in her painting/sewing room. That trial ballon flew for about 2 seconds. My reference stufff is very nice- the RB81s and theRB61s are 2 months old. My Rf3s are a great buy at 400 for the pair. i will sell my black RC64 as soon as I locate a single Heritage for a center.Check them out at the garage.
  18. Same exact thing took my best friend at 40. Discovered in Nov- gone by April. One of the worst thing that I ever had to watch/go through. He left my 2 sons a pair of extremely rare Colt single action revolvers. I get sick every time I open the safe and see them. Your story reminds me of him,. I know that you don't think so now but time will numb the pain after his passing. Hang in there.I hope his passing is painless and peaceful.
  19. It came up under klipsch Lascalla - Emblems- I bet that they are correct for regular lascallas- not indusrtial. My luck I
  20. Forget about dumb crook of the week or any other Darwin related incidents. This guy wins- hands down- no contest. Google- "Man arrested for strapping toddler to moped". 40 mile road trip in the middle of the winter on a liquior cycle with a baby strapped to the back with a bungee cord.Only in NC. And here they are allowed to breed.
  21. Tie him to an anthill -come back in 1 hour- and put a .45 through his head Word would get around not to steal cars- drunk or otherwise +1 on the "He needed killing defense" Personally I am tired of criminals running wild- cops that tell you to just take it up with the insurance co-judges who let these pieces of ---- back out into society to repeat ther crimes 1000 times. Judges should be held personally and criminally liable when one of these dirtbags is released then goes out and hurts or kills somebody. Happens here like you would not believe. "if charged'.????...Wonderfull
  22. I am cose to getting a pair of Klipsch Lascallas industrial model 88 vintage. The speakers are missing the badges. There are a pair on e-bay that are supposed to be correct for all k horns- lascallas-hersherys- ect- could someone(who knows more than I do) please look at these and verify that they appear to be correct or steer me to where I can buy a set. Many thanks in advance- Chris
  23. Congrats- nice kid- Spend as much time as you possibly can with him. If you don't- they will pay you back when they get to be teenagers. I spent every possible minute with my 2 boys while they were growing up and I have been very lucky. I have one in grad school and another who is an honor student in high school. I just wish I knew where the time went. Enjoy You are so lucky to have a beautiful healthy child.
  24. Several people at work have had both of them.I would go the Volvo route over the VW. Like any other foreign car they really stick it to you after the warranty is out. The dealer here is a first class jerk. Every time the guy next to me goes for service he has to fight to get a loaner(my absolute deal breaker pet peeve) and they try to sell him unnecessary repairs. With that in mind I would try to buy the Volvo with a deal on an extended warranty. Not my choice but they are great- well built -safe cars. Maybe you could get yourself some new gear if you buy her the Volvo????????
