  1. Sorry for the ommision- room dims are 14 feet wide by 24 feet long
  2. I am looking at the prospect of building a small partition wall in my listening area to create a corner a Klipschorn. the tech info people at Klipsch told me that the wall needs to be at least 4 feet high and 4 feet long. This wall would extend at a 90 degree angle from an existing wall. I have a couple of questions. Could I use a pre fabbed partition from an office supply store?? Does the corner need to be sealed where the 2 surfaces come together or would a small gap be acceptable?? Does the wall need to be a hard surface such as drywall or would a typical carpet covered office partition panel work?? Do you think a 4 ft by 4 ft wall is large enough to properly act as a sounding area for these speakers? The room dims are 1ft wide by 24 ft long with a 9 ft ceiling. I plan to put the k horns at the end of the 14 ft across dim. There is a door at the end of the room where I would need to build the wall. I am new at this. Thanks in advance.
  3. I have kept open the likelyhood of having to go to a lower powered audiophile type amp to drive the heritage speakers. There is a Mac dealer nearby and I may pay him a visit. I also planto check out the profiles to see what others are using. I know it is difficult to describe sound differences verbally but how would you guys describe the difference between the cornwalls and the klipschorns?. Is is typical for someone to purchase cornwalls and then decide to upgrade to Klipschorns after the fact? Does anyone within driving distance of Charlotte NC have a set of Cornwalls that I could listen to? If so please PM me. Any coments/comparisons relating to the other than Cornwall heritage models compared to the klipschorns would also be appreciated as I have heard only the klipschorns. I greatly appreciate the responses. I have learned a great deal for this thread already. Particulary the link to the specs. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
  4. My listening area is 14 x 24 -9 ft ceiling. I have an existing 7.1 Klipsch reference HT system in the same room. I will be running this as a 2nd zone from my Sony DA4300 ES with a separate power amp- yet to be determined. I have some 250 wpc Carver stuff laying around that I will try initially I will be using an Adcom high end CD player and/or a Technics turntable/vinyl. Most of the program material will be classic rock.I always wanted a set of klipschorns but I am open to suggestions for other models. The Klipschors are the only heritage speakers that I have ever heard I may convert my HT system over to heritage stuff and sell my reference speakers sometime in the future if I can work out space for the center channel. My budget would be around 2500 for the speakers. I have time to look and learn as I am in no hurry-but would commit for the right deal. Thanks in advance. present system-rb81-rb61-rf3-rc64(in transit) definitive PF15 sub-Sony DA3300ES-used as pre amp/ processor only- Carver 250wpc 3 channel amp-BK 4420-HK870- Adcom700- sony bluray 550- 50"panasonic plasma
  5. I want to start looking for a used set of Klipschorns, Cornwalls or some type of older heritage speakers. I was around these back in the 70s but never could afford a pair myself. I see ads with prices all over the map with various crossover mods and refinishing. I know absolutely nothing about these except that I like the way they sound and I want a pair for a 2 channel setup. Where do I start reading to begin my research on these speakers?? Thanks in advance.
  6. Take him out back and put a bullet in his head. The next one would think twice about doing it. Enough of this type of stuff. It is high time that CEO crooks along with catch and release judges are personally and financially responsible for the consequences of their actions. I really hope they FRY this guy.
  7. Thanks for the input. This really has me thinking. The idea of a upgrade proof Heritage based system appeals to me if I am wiling to completely rip apart and redo the listening area and sneak cash out of the bank account and risk domestic peril. i am going to go ahead and finish the RF83/RC64 deal and then start looking for some klipschorns on the used market after research them so I know what I am doing. Based on comments in the sub section I most likely will not buy the RT10 or the 12. The main issue with this idea of a Heritage system is the size of the center channel speaker. I barely have enough room for the RC64 as it stands at present. Just an FYI- the technical people at Klipsch told me that I could buy the klipschorns and use the existing reference stuff and that it would sound fine. They also told me that they were considering the development of some heritage surround rears to go with the existing product line. personaly- I dont think the reference stuff would mix well with the heritage.
  8. 899.99 is a deal. I am in the market as well as well. looking hard at the RT 10 d but considering other choices after reading some comparisons
  9. Anybody heard a ULS-15?????
  10. OK Looks like we have established that the rsw15 is the stuff- So where do I get one??
  11. I don't see many folks running the RT10d or the RT12 on this forum. I have my eye on a cherry RT10 d for 799.00 about 1k off list. My local dealer does not have them hooked up- in boxes only- so I can't listen to one. What is the general consensus on these models? Pricey but nice reviews in the magazines for whatever that's worth. Do these need to be placed in corners? I was told(by someone selling them) that it does not matter where they are in the room.
  12. My home theater setup sounds great with DVDs or HD Direct TV. Playing CDs in the 2 channel mode is OK but not great. I am considering several options and I have questions. My knowledge is limited in this area. Any comments would be appreciated. I am using a new Sony DA4300ES as a preamp and video processor. All of the speakers are driven by external amps- Carver, HK870, and BK EX4420. I am presently using RF 3 fronts which are 8 yrs old. They will be replaced by RF83s in Jan. I am using an older klipsch center which will be replaced by an RC64 in Jan. I am using a Carver 3channel 250 WPC A753X to power the 2 fronts and the center. It is 7 years old but like new with little use. My sub is an older Definitive 15" 370 watt from the mid 90s. I will be replacing it with a RT 10 or 12 in Jan. What sound mode on the Sony should I be using for 2 channel cd listening? 2 ch Cd mode or one of the jazz club or small house settings. Should I be using the sub- not getting much bass response without it? Adcom CD player. Are the RF83s considered decent for music applications? I am also considering buying an additional pair of Klipshorns or Belles or Cornwalls just for music. Should these be hooked up as a second zone on the receiver with their own amp? I perviously had a separate setup for music but that is no longer practical. My room is 24' x 13'. 9 foot ceiling. Sorry for the rookie questions. I figure that this is the best place to ask. Thanks in advance
  13. I think a THANKS to your son is in order as I sit in my warm safe house as I enjoy living in a free country. If you can't thank our soldiers or a vet- go live somewhere else. Your son will be fine.
  14. I gotta come to the defense of the 914 and the 924. Most people who bash the 914 have never driven one. The car was way ahead of it's time in the handling area. The later models in particular were not deserving of the VW comparison. Go to any autocross event today and watch them eat the competition. The are a few 914-6s around- particulary the modded ones-that are fast even by today's standards. My first P car was a 1977-1/2 Euro delivery 924 that I bought form a local CEO after he lost the battle with the little woman. Bahama Blue/Black. Of course I had to modify the thing with all of the goodies available from Automotion. The late 70s were the demise of the muscle cars- smog pumps - ect. My 924 was a leaded gas car and after a few engine and suspension mods the car was pretty quick considering what else was out there in 1979. It turned heads everywhere, it was fast for it's day and I never had much trouble with it in the 80K miles that I put on it. I also got a nice pile of cash when I sold it in 1984. Sure, it was not a 911 or a 928 but it was a darn fine automoblie for it's day considering what else was out there at the time. In stock form, it made the C&D list for the top 20 fastest new cars available at the time. Porsche never made any bad cars- some just better(and more expensive) than others.
  15. Enjoyed all the pics- especially the 928s- way ahead of it's time. I will try to post a pic of my cayman S soon. This one is way off the reservation from the rear engine -aircooled gold standard. Mid engine 320 hp w/ Borla exhaust.Handles like a go-kart on steroids. Many of the old guard have said the Cayman should banned from the club autocross events. I love them all. My buddy has a last year of production 993 with the factory sound package with like 30k miles that is S O S W E E T .
  16. I have a 2 or 3 year old Panasonic TH-50PX600U Plasma. It is not a 1080- 780 I think. It was the baddest thing on the market right before the 1080 Panasonics came out. I am using a new Sony DA4300ES reveiver. Monster HDMI connecting components. Direct TV HiDEF reveiver. Here's my issue. I was going to buy one of the newer 1080 sets and move this one to another room. I have looked at the new stuff in stores and and at friend's houses and except for 1 Pioneer -top of the line setup which is about equal-- my older unit looks better. The images are sharper on moving pics like sports and my blacks seem blacker. This is according to several of us- not just me- including the owners of new 1080 sets. I am not comparing this set to junk. These other sets that I have seen are Sony, Samsung, newer Panasonic, and Pioneer. My comparisons have been made from about 10 feet away. I am looking for a 52-58" size range and I will spend around 4-5k if necessary. So what is the deal ??- should I wait until the next superset comes out??
  17. Modified Cayman S here that makes every drive to work or trip to the gro store a thrill seekers dream.Scary fast

  20. I am in the process of buying rf83s RC64 and a yet to be determined sub. The last authorized dealer that I bought from "Tweeter" prompty went out of business after my klipsch/Sony purchases leaving me at no advantage over if I had bought off the net. I see places like 1080p people and High End Wholesale offering some killer deals on klipsch and other products on the net. I would like to do the right thing and buy from the local dealers. In general what kind of discount off retail can I expect to find from a dealer?? So far I have found about 25% whichis about 10-15% less than the internet guys. We also have a 7.5% sales tax that offsets shipping charges. I keep hearing warnings about "grey Market" components from internet vendors but I have yet to run into this issue nor have I talked to anyone who has. I am just getting back into buying audio stuff after a 8 years out of the loop. Any comments would be appreciated.
  21. Would someone please tell me what is up with this 1,000,000 dollar a foot super copper alloy speaker wire that i see on audiogon and other places?? The klipsh tech peole tell me that it is all hype. Supposedly a coat hanger wire won a blind listening test over several grades of high end stuff. I am using 12 ga coated speaker wire from lowes and it seems fine
  22. I personally dont trust ANY short frame 1911 style. I recently had a kimber pro Carry with a factory Crimson Trace laser. The thing stovepiped even with hardball ammo. The factory said that I needed to fire 500 rounds to break it in. I did not want to have a "well used" pistol with a feeding problem to try and sell so I traded it back in for a Custom combat II. I had a Colt Combat Commander that I spent a small fortune on trying to get right- never happened. I do know people that swear by the Officers models but pesonally if I cant carry a full size kimber. I will go to a HK compact 45 or a Smith titanium 357 wheelgun. The full size Kimber is the best handgun ever IMHO. There is nothing on the palnet that feels/shoots like the 1911 of your choice. I am assuming that the Ultra covert is a 1911 style- not a kimber design action.
  23. Owned pretty much every one out there. Ed Brown makes the best but the price is a joke. That leave 3 choices Kimber-kimber- and kimber- only a question of which one to choose. 24. Hi folks New here and I don't know jack about the new stuff. My 10 year old Sony surround sound receiver died so I had to start buying stuff. Been out of the product loop for about 6- 8 or so years. I bought a Sony DA4300ES and decided to go to 7.1 Bought RB81 rears and RB61 for sides. I had a b&K power amp and a HK 870 from back in the day so I am running the rears with the BK and the sides with the HK 870. I bought a Carver A753 3 channel amp from e-bay which is running the fronts and the center. The Carver is a beast and has got me looking at a new center/fronts. Also maybe a new sub. I am seriously looking at RF83s and an RC64. mabe the 12" Powered sub. My system sounds great compared to before but I can see that my older speakers may need an upgrade. Any advice or reccomendations are greatly appreciated. TIA Sony DA4300ES- new Sony BPD-S550 blue Ray-new Adcom GCD700 DC Changer-mid 90s?
