  2. I think I would be too intimidated in a place like that. First of all not knowing a ton about speakers (I know what I hear and if I hear something good then thats all that really matters to me) plus I'm 17 so they probably wouldn't take me seriously. I would really like to audition some RF3/RF7's... ....just to see what all the "hype" is about.
  3. I'm not trying to defend them because I've not heard them before (hell, I'm a fellow klipsch owner) but keep in mind you heard them in a store and I've noticed no system sounds as good in the store as it does in my own room.
  4. mistrass - Thats awfully generous, but I don't have a job right now nor much gas in the car and what money I do get goes to gas Besides, this is just kinda future planning anyway and it probably won't happen anytime real soon... ....just planning ahead a little I noticed what little they did have on the site and I noticed they were discontinued as well, I just didn't know the reason why. Thanks again... This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 06-28-2002 at 09:43 PM
  5. I've been hearing about the legends a lot lately but the Klipsch site doesn't show much of them without havin' to dig around a bit so I was curious on how they compare to other Klipsch speakers? Specifically the reference series? They look a lot bigger and more "industrial" so to speak, so maybe they get louder? I don't know much about them so if anybody can give a breif description about them or how they compare to other klipsch speakers, it would be appreciated
  6. Wow, didn't expect so many replies. "Does the 25.31 deliver all you could expect from a sub its size? LOUD LOW" Being my first HT sub, I didn't know what to get really. I had about $500 at the time and wanted the best I could get for that kinda cash. Not knowing much at the time, I just spent time at the HomeTheaterForums and got the gist that this sub is major bang for your buck. I can tell you this much though, I can't ever see a reason upgrading this sub unless I move my HT into a much bigger room. The sub is everything I hoped for. It hits real hard and is very clean. It plays down to 25Hz with no problem and I've NEVER bottomed it out. I find myself going to friends houses and thinking just how much I'm missing from the movie because I can't hear/feel the bass like I can at my house. I'm sure being in a tiny *** room helps though (12x9) "how does all the matching work out? seems you could run intoa problem with such a powerful sub and an outspoken center with those quintets. everything sound equal for you?" It's decent. I had no problems with my system at first, but recently I've noticed that hte quintets really lack when it comes to music. IT just doesn't seem to be very "full" and "alive." And when I pump them up real loud, they just seem to scream at me and they dont produce "quality" sound, IMO. But this is what ya get when you get smaller speakers. I'm pretty sure I'll have to get some better mains before I can expereience better music. As for the imaging, again it's decent. I really had no choice other than to put them up on the wall. The rears would have sounded better f I had another place to put them, but I just don't. I might have been able to put them on stands, but there are kids that run around the house and I didn't want to take the chance. I have all the sats pointed as close to the listening position as possible so it's not all that bad. I can't complain, really. Until I get to move out of my parents house (17 now) then I really wont' be able to have a real nice HT because all the rooms in this house are small and I don't want kids playin' with my toys I did use a calibration DVD + my rat-shack meter to balance out the system and that helped a ton. I seem to love bass though, because after calibrating it, I didn't have that "punch" I was used to so I went back there and pumped it up a bit more Either that or I'm tryin' to make up for the lackin' bass in the quintets I got into HT rather quickly without really researching. Heck, I got into HT without even knowing before hand, really. I got a decent deal on the quintets and that is what got me all started really. I was originally just going to get a cheap sub w/quintets and hook it up to my PC but I figured I might as well try to blow my friends ProMedia system out of the water " see your also a musician? What influences?" My main influences are bands like Aerosmith, Zeppelin, the Stones, Pink Floyd. I've been really itchin' to play some bluesy stuff but just don't have the know-how. Eric clapton is another I really like. I like some of metallicas later songs (load/reload, S&M) but they play too damn fast for me I started my lessons in the 7th grade and quit in about a year (actually my instructor got laid off and I never went back) I'm now a senior and I picked up the acoustic again about 8 months ago and have been playin' ever since. I should really get some more lessons because I feel like I've reached a point and I just can't seem to get better. This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 06-26-2002 at 06:34 PM
  7. The rest of my PC is in the closet, which is to the right of the HT system (by looking at the first pic). Klipsch Quintets (fronts/rears) Klipsch SC-1 (center) SVS 25-31PC Pioneer D509s JVC XV-300BK DVD-Player (not shown) 27" GE T.V. I've been really itching to upgrade to the klipsch reference line Problem is I don't have the money/space in this small room. Maybe once I move out My parnets would hate me even more if I did get the reference series anyway, so it's probably a good idea that I don't This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 06-25-2002 at 04:22 PM
  8. You can get a decent HT system for under $1000. I got four quintets for my fronts/rears for $185. I then bought an SC-1 center off ebay for $145. After that I bought a Pioneer reciever (D509s) for $200 off ebay. Now we're up to $525. You now have plenty left off for an awsome sub I ended up getting an SVS 25-31pc for $450. You could get a mediocre sub for cheaper and then upgrade your fronts/rears because the quintets aren't the best. They're pretty good for HT but I'm now wanting better for music... My parents fixed it for $100. So ~$1000 of crap that I bought on my own. Sure, I don't have a job now (I quit on my own will) nor do I have more than $50 in my name, but I have a home theater in my own room This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 06-19-2002 at 02:57 PM

  12. quote: Originally posted by USparc: Hipnotic_Tranz, how do you like your pioneer and how is your PC connected to it (as DVD player). Well, I'm no professional but I really like my reciever. It seems like a good "bottom of the line" reciever. Does DD 5.1 and DTS. IS capable of up to 7 speakers (using A and B mode). I've overloaded it once when I blasted it at -10db using music through my PC. I found out I had the windows volume to high so it hasn't happened sense. The remote is real nice and I like the learning feature. I programmed it to my T.V. simply by punchin' in a certain number located in the manual. My PC was at one time connected to my reciever via a coax cable. It went from my video card (cause I had the AIW Radeon) right to my reciever which let me get 5.1 DD. Now that I've upgraded I don't have any of that. I can still output 5.1 via the SPDIF out on my Live! Drive but I don't have that long of a cable so right now it's just connected with a 3.5mm->left/right RCA type cable (dunno what it's called?) I'm pretty new to HT and had a limited budget so I didn't get top of the line stuff for really anything here (well, the sub I think is REAL NICE). I'd really like to upgrade my sats but the room I'm in is real small and I'll be movin' off to college soon anyway, so this will definitly do for now. I appreciate the comments. 13. SNES ROCKS The star wars games were the best I've beaten Donkey Kong a long time ago... ...actually beat it in 3-days
  14. Just some pics of my room. My current setup consists of: Klipsch Quintet x4 sats Klipsch SC-1 Center SVS 25-31pci Pioneer D509s Reciever old GE 27" T.V. (with s-video though 1.4GHz PC which is currently my DVD player http://hipnotictranz.homestead.com/files/room/couch.JPG http://hipnotictranz.homestead.com/files/room/etsystem.JPG http://hipnotictranz.homestead.com/files/room/etsystem_angle.JPG http://hipnotictranz.homestead.com/files/room/sub.JPG http://hipnotictranz.homestead.com/files/room/sub_close.JPG
  15. For what it's worth, I have the 25-31pci and love it to death. I have nothin' to compare it to, but it fills my 9x12 room with more bass than I could EVER use.
  16. The song "A thousand Years" by Sting has a good amount of bass in the beginning. Most all metallica is real good too. Bela Fleck - Flight of the cosmic hippo, around 2:00min is where it gets the lowest. Fletcher Memorial Home by Pink Floyd has some nice bass around 1:39-1:50. But right now I just love listening to metallica's S&M CD. Each time the drums hit in my chest I get a feeling of bliss I really see where that $450 for the SVS sub has gone
  17. My opinion is that one is fine, unless you're goin' for some major *** freakin' bass. I have a 25-31 in my 9x12 room and never pump it up higher than 50% on the amp (I have the pci version). Also when I play music through my computer, I have the bass setting set to 66% in my creative mixer. This sub has so much more and my friends think it has too much bass already. They think it's over-powering but I like feeling the thump in my chest, ya know. I just don't think they are used to true bass My friends ProMedia system never seemed to have so little bass
  18. quote: Originally posted by PhilH: A recent find for me in a concert DVD is Roger Waters "In The Flesh". No DTS here, but a good Dolby Digital recording nonetheless. At a recent training, I was playing it as people were walking into the room. I was amazed that once a person (no matter what age) sat down, they just focused in on the concert, no talking with their buddies or anything. Waters has got some great musicians with him playing 2 and 1/2 hours of Pink Floyd classics (recorded in 2000). PhilH Pink Floyd is awsome. Ever since I got my SVS 25-31pc I've been listening to the wall, disk2 (the better of the two, I think) Never realized there was so much bass is some of these songs. If you have the album "echos" check out the song "The Fletcher Memorial Home" There is a part in that song where the bass really hits (~1:40) This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 03-28-2002 at 08:54 PM
  19. seems peeps don't like the quintets that much I've been running them with my KSC-C1 center and SVS sub. Work great at low volumes, but when you *really* pump 'em up, I will agree that I would like them to perform better.... But after spending ~1k I think I'll just sit with what I have and be happy....there's always gonna be somethin' better out there.
  20. Save up about another $500 and there are I have the Klipsch Quintet sats, the KSC-C1 center, a Pioneer reciever, and an SVS 25-31 sub and spent about $850-900. It's true HT and sounds 100x better than my friends Promedias (the 4.1s mind you) but I'm sure they would beat the heck out of the 5.1's as well. My suggestion? Save up a bit more and get something you are positive you'll be happy with
  21. I ended up ordering the 25-31pci from b-stock for $467 shipped. And for those that care, it is scheduled to arrive Monday (18th) CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT!!!!!!!! ASJDA:KLSJFL:ASFLK:AJLKFDL:JLSDFJ:LKFLK:SJD This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 03-14-2002 at 10:22 PM
  22. jezz, ya guys act like a $600 is cheap I guess when you're 16 $600 is a hell of a lot more than it is to you older folk I see I can get a refub'd SVS 25-31PCi for $465 shipped and I have yet to find that PW2200 online (though I'm still looking) But if it's anything above this, then I'll pass. I can hardly afford the $520, I'll probably have to borrow $50 from my parents or atleast pick up some hours at work.... My friends think I'm an idiot for spending $500+ on a sub. We'll see who's laughing after I get it, mwahahah This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 03-12-2002 at 08:21 PM
  23. I know, seems like there is one every day (sorry!) But I'm confused. First my budget was no more than $350. Then I saw another sub which I really wanted and bumped that up to $400, now I got my tax refund and was thinkin' "What am I gonna do with this money?" Then I thought, why not get a better sub But now that my limit is $500 (MAX!!) I'm stuck on what to get again. I hear a LOT about SVS BUT the cheapest powered SVS is $550 w/o shipping =O Is it possible to buy the 25-31CS and couple it with a PartsExpress amp? If so, what all would be involved in doing so? This will be my first HT sub and I've never built any in the past. My current system (and first ever) consists of: Klipsch Quintets Klipsch KSC-C1 Pioneer D-509s Reciever Room Size = 9' x 12' I don't want something overbearing and just "loud" I want tight, accurate, and punchy. I want to feel the explosions, not just hear them. So what would you guys recommened me doing? This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 03-11-2002 at 03:56 PM
  24. Yep, know you need an amp but my friend has one he might let go pretty cheap. I really don't wanna spend much more than $400. I don't even have that much now I have about $200 and it'll take a couple more weeks to save up the rest (it's hard when you're 16 and the job you have pays $6.25) Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them.
  25. Everybody is talkin' SVS this, SVS that. I've personally never heard of them but they are getting a lot of praise. The SVS 25-31CS is the only one in my price range right now ($400) and I was curious if anybody out there has had any personal experience with this sub and what they thought about it. The quick specs are: o Power handling, 350 watts RMS. 4 Ohm load. o 25 Hz tuning point o +/- 3 dB 25 Hz-100 Hz o 31" tall, 16" in diameter The other sub I was looking at, you can see here at PartsExpress. The specs are similar, though the SVS has more power. The system it would be going with is this: o Klipsch Quintets (x4) o Klipsch KSC-C1 o Pioneer D509s Reciever This message has been edited by Hipnotic_Tranz on 02-15-2002 at 05:29 PM
