  1. Yeah I was suprised and over joyed at the same time. The folks led me in the right direction around here. Got to love the Klipsch forum and the wealth of knowledge one can gain here.
  2. That thread got me thinking and all the talk about QSC with the horns and also that Klipsch was even using them in their lab just made it a no brainer for me. Figured I would give it a try and sure glad i did. So in a way I should say thanks Jeff.
  3. Well Jeff, The marantz makes for a pretty descent preamp with alot of options also a pretty kick asrse tuner. As far as other preamps I would only switch out the marantz for a tube pre and the options are very limited due to the low impedance of the amp. Still eyeing the peach or maybe the kit merlin. Those would both fit my needs. But havent spent the money yet because like I said I am having fun with what I have at the moment. My amp is the 2422 which happened to sell for 1,999 new. http://www.qscaudio.com/products/amps/sra/sra.htm They no longer sell this line but it is basically a PLX 2402 in a little fancier case and quieter fan and there are a few spec differeneces as well. Also per QSC the damping factor @ 400hz and below where crown rates theres is 3000. But on their spec sheet it just says greater than 500 at 1khz and below.
  4. Jeff, Personally I am a big marantz fan especially the 2325. Mine has been gone completely through and up to factory spec. But when I added the QSC, which is really a monster amp for horns but sounds so damn sweet, the music went to a new level. The bass is solid compared to just punchy the mids are smooth without glare and the highs are sweet without grain. I just hear so much more of the music than what i was hearing with the marantz alone. I like aragon too but mine is just sitting. But this QSC is just a smooth animal.
  5. the bigger PLX's are Switchers .. not the 1202/ 1602 I'll post a graph of wht happens to the 2nd transient, with a switcher .. it's not pretty .. All of the QSC PLX and SRA's have switching power supplies. That is the whole design concept of this particular line of amplifiers. Maybe you are confusing Class AB output of the smaller QSC's with Class H output of the larger models. I have a 2422 which is indeed class H and basically all it does is sound great and kick arse! "With PowerWave technology, the PLX series take your music to a whole new level. Not only does it deliver bigger bass and cleaner highs, PowerWave also cuts wasted heat and boosts reliability. PowerWave is a switching power supply that provides ample current to the audio power circuitry by charging the supply rails 230,000 times a second through an ultra-low impedance circuit. So unlike other amps with conventional supplies, the audio signal is never starved prematurely and remains crisp and clean. It virtually eliminates hum and greatly reduces noise, providing a vast dynamic range that can handle any music without running out of headroom". What I think has happened Duke is QSC has actually perfected or a least done a fine job with the switching of their power supplies because they do make for great ss amplifiers.
  6. The trials and tribulations of the little RCA dog.[] What a good friend. Seems like she never makes for a dull moment.

  8. To each his own. Forte II is a heck of a speaker but not to everyone is it better than a Chorus II. I chose the Chorus II years ago and I would do it again in a second. Everything is bigger with the Chorus II in my honest opinion. Just give those big 15's enough juice to get movin and trust me you'll be rockin.
  9. You crack me up Terry. I guess you be slammin man !!!
  10. Congrats Michael, Good luck with your new adventure. Working for Klipsch falls into the AWESOME category.
  11. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1165168789 Maybe the prices are up right now but that seems pretty steep for the aweful condition its in.
  12. You wont be wanting for a crown amp once you get that QSC up and running. Congrats on your new amp! Enjoy!
  13. Joe, If from your equipment profile you are going from adcom amplification ( and that goes for any adcom amplification ) to QSC PLX or SRA series amplification. Be prepared to have your mind blown!!!!! NetMagi, I believe the PLX2 series to be basically the same just a little better specs and a little newer look.
  14. try a ...Crown D-45/75 series 2 or ... a K-1 .../2 or .. ifn' ya want to spend $$$ Crown Studio Reference ........[] I have to admit Duke the only Crown I've ever auditioned was the DC-150. At that time my Marantz was better. I know Leo likes his. Maybe I'll look for one for a "summer" amp next year. Rick What I have found with my my style of music, which maybe it does matter, is that the QSC 2422 and the marantz 2325 are a great pairing with my chorus II's. The marantz alone just seems to smear alot of detail and the bottom in though punchy is just ok. But when you use the QSC as the amplifier what a difference. The QSC has a very tight and forceful bottom end with so much more of the music coming through. I can really achieve concert levels here in my listening room without any hint of pain. And always volume has equaled pain but just not so with this set up. The QSC is such a smooth performer and the marantz seems to add the perfect touch of warmth. I think I am going to stay right where I'm at for awhile cause I am really diggin it. Klipsch, which is so terribly truthful about what you put behind them let all the flaws in a system just come shining through. I've experienced the breaking glass with klipsch and I'm not going back. Also that upper midrange glare isn't coming around here again either. And I absolutely love a very solid foundation. Boom sucks but solid rocks! Now wait let me get this just right. How would Duke say it. I've got it this systems has Thwaaaaaaaaackkkkkkkkk !!!!!!!! PS: By the way QSC has that ridiculous high damping factor as well leading me to believe it might have alot to do with the extremely solid foundation.
  15. The Heavy Metal / SS Invasion has landed. This really ought to shake things up around here. Way too cool !!!! Never had the opportunity to have a local klipsch dealer that was into heavy metal and rock. My dealers seem to rather sip some champagne and listen to some classical(no offense meant to some of the other members who enjoy classical just not my cup of tea). And when ever I would come in and listen to some new gear with my music I would always get those "you cant be serious" looks. Glad to see some new folks with my interests(styles of music) join the forum. You and others just keep making this klipsch forum better and better. Thanks!
  16. Welcome, You guys dont just drive klipsch speakers, you DRIVE klipsch. Awesome! Rock On!
  17. I think this old post is what started the idea about shaking the plaster/rattling pictures on the wall. 2 damn funny[]
  18. LMAO. Another heavy hand with the volume knob. It gives a whole new meaning to Carl and his comments. I will be paying much more attention.[]
  19. Chorus II set up properly will blow your mind with metal. And believe it or not Jeff you dont have to get an ear bleed just because its loud and pounding the crap out of ya. Its called finding smooth gear that kicks arse! Cornwalls always give me a headache at concert levels unless you dynamat the crap out of them. Cornwalls are maybe the finest jazz speaker on the planet but us metal heads better stick with Chorus II's. Maybe for metal. And then some!

  21. Don't drink, smoke or do drugs but sure do enjoy listeneing to heavy metal. Some say i must enjoy root canal with that kind of music preference but that is not the case. Enjoy classic rock because that is basically what i grew up with but seem to just get heavier and heavier as the years go by. I dig all the same bands JC.
  22. Or it might be that Chorus II's just flat out kick ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
