  1. allow me this brief smartass moment to say "called it!"
  2. keep in mind that this wasn't just a spill, but a free flowing pipe at extreme ocean depths ..
  3. This is why you only communicate through email until you've arranged a time and place to meet and you always arrange for a very public (starbucks works great) place. If someone refuses to meet in the middle ..I kill the deal, regardless of whether I'm buying or selling. I've made only one exception to that policy and it was when I drove down to buy Carl's speakers; I searched the forum extensively to get a feel for his participation level and we exchanged a great deal of information to make me (and my wife) and him (and his wife) comfortable with tracking each other down, should something go wrong.
  4. i've yet to cool mine, but i figured when i did i would use some large pc fans and hook them up to a pc power supply .. the idea works in my head at least
  5. You HONESTLY think that they'll still be at your house when you get back from Mexico????? haha ..they better be!
  6. going to cozumel for a dive trip in a week and getting my advanced open water cert at the same time. if for some reason something goes wrong at 120ft, i hereby grant full ownership of my RF-5's back to carl.
  7. sometimes a blu-ray ..bought a new router from there because I didn't want to wait on shipping from newegg .. that's about it.
  8. has the luster of Heritage speakers worn off already?
  9. I forgot to tell you, your cash bounced, I've got to repo my speakers. See you this weekend. Just leave them out by the front door to avoid further embarrasment. LOL [Y]
  10. I sure do! Been running them with the RC-7 as large and thoroughly enjoying the sound. Sometimes the sub is missed during movie tracks, but for now it's a sweet setup. You never should have sold them to me Carl..
  11. i had one, didn't hate it at all. No issues supporting 1080p video and everything except the latest HD audio formats. As part of my efforts to scale back and make things easier I decided that support for the newest formats and a little less age on the receiver were in order. I did some shopping on CList and found someone willing to trade the Denon I have now. Not quite the "high end" of the Marantz with orginal msrp's being about $500 different. The combination of newer format support, networking capabilities, and opportunity made it an attractive deal for me ..no regrets. Nor would I have regretted holding onto the 8001. I've not heard the 7001, so I can't provide any commentary on the audible differences. You certainly won't be disappointed in the 8001, but unless you can do it for near nothing out of pocket, I'm not sure it's a meaningful "upgrade".
  12. call 1-800-KLIPSCH (1-800-554-7724) and they should be able to get you a replacement amp for < $250. Not cheap, but better than buying a whole new sub that you may or may not end up liking.
  13. More than I quoted, sorry ..but glad you've got all working. Stick around and contribute to the group
  14. yep, they should work fine. Do you already have the RCW-5's? If not,Klipsch has newer model in-walls that may be easier to find on craigslist or ebay. Either way, if you're dead set on in-walls, i would just get three of the same speaker and use them across your front stage ..subwoofer is a personal preference thing, and will definitely be helpful to fill in the lower frequencies that the in-walls can't touch. I would look at an elemental designs sub ...good performance to cost ratio, and a fan favorite for klipsch speakers. http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=2_41 welcome to the forum! - Michael
  15. re-read my post ..i'm concerned about your PS3's wellfare as it relates to heat and proximity to your amp
  16. Nice, Michael! My only concern would be about the PS3 placement ..with those heat sinks on the side of the parasound and the amount of heat put out by the PS3 on it's own, it just seems like disaster waiting to happen for that console (not worried about the amp).
  17. what you need is one of those big green (or black, depending on your location) plastic bins that are emptied once a week. carefully pick up your sub, making sure to include the cord, and carry it to the plastic bin. you need to then put it in the plastic bin for a week ..the combined humidity, static electricity, and fusion with the other materials in the plastic bin should bring it back to life..
  18. sides. "rear surrounds" are for the extra 2 speakers in a 7.1 setup..
  19. part 1: are you asking if you can use an 7.1 pre-pro/AVR with only 5.1 speakers? ..yes. Most say the benefit in those two speakers is negligable, and the system will route those effects to your surrounds in the 5.1 setup (most move tracks aren't even transmitted in 7.1). part 2: dunno..
  20. that particular example sits behind a screen made of grille fabric, so i didn't worry about finishing the wood. throw some stain on it, paint the edges in flat black, and you'll have a very sharp looking solution.
  21. doh ..sorry. yes, my lowes has pre-cut raw plywood (birch and oak) in 24x24" squares. see below .. i've also made a desk using the threaded rod method, reused some old ikea tables with the rods, etc ..i might try and build a house out of these things.
  22. definitely dont put in anything but a klipsch replacement amp. It won't cost you more than $200, which is cheaper than buying any sub of comparable performance. you'll have the peace of mind knowing your sub is as it should be and no risk of future issues from incompatible non-oem solutions.
  23. yes and no .. that model has two hdmi outs which means you can run video out to separate devices. the practical application here is a plasma for general use and your roll down screen + projector for serious movie watching. the zone feature, however, is more like auxillary audio ( 2 channels i believe) and i think the practical application here would be routing a few speakers to your kitchen, adjoining room, etc so that you can move about the house and not miss out from the action in primary zone. that's my understanding ..i'll defer to others who have actually used those functions to provide additional info.
