  1. I would hardly be the first one to call her a 'dog'. Even if she was hugging a toilet. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-12-2002 at 08:11 AM
  2. I suppose anything I would say here might be misconstrued as being hypocritical. At my job we just flourish when the economy is bad. I work for a small firm of court reporters. When the economy is bad people get frustrated because they don't have the money they did. People then get mad at each other and want to get their hands on some money ASAP. So they sue each other. That's where we come in, taking depositions and the like at over $3 a page and 24 lines of ten-point print per page. That come to an average of 40 pages an hour + $50/hour attendance fees. Bring-em' on!! Bad side to this is that my retirment fund is going to the dumper..... ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-11-2002 at 05:51 PM

  4. Let's all wish a speedy recovery to Frank Gow at Audio Classics after a reacent heart attack. He is the son of Gordon Gow of McIntosh fame. Here's to ya Frank! ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-10-2002 at 07:47 PM
  5. Last year I was in the market for an impact wrnech for the some automotive work. I went to Sears and found an Ingersol Rand for XXX dollars. Sitting right next to it was a Craftsman for ten bucks cheaper. After very close study I found that they are THE SAME UNITS! Specs, build, internals, everything. Not saying that all Craftsman products are like this but it may be worth a look. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  6. If your looking for someone on line then uBid is the only one. From what I gather they only carry closeouts but with a true bonafide factory warranty. You may want to send BobG a message and tell him your plight. He may have a solution. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  7. Now that's encouraging! I got these from the Bob and Tom web-site.... ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  8. The only thing I would like to add, is that I have nothing to add. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  9. Just went out to get the CD this afternoon and just my luck I got the wrong one. I got the 1987 version (club re-mix). Out of a little disgust then went to Borders and got the 1982. The 87' club re-mix is rather disappointing in sonic quality but the 82' version just plain kicks butt. That CD rocks pretty good. The bass is phenominal on track 6!! Thank again Justin and Audioholic!! Tonight's movie will be "Saving Private Ryan". Happy Fourth! ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-04-2002 at 09:47 PM
  10. bkchase- I did just what youre asking about. It did indeed take about 8-9 hours labor. Mine did, however take quite a bit more cable to do than lynnm is saying. I estimate about 13 ft. each of the MC to get the job done. Now before I get a little flamed on this I left about a foot extra on each lead from each driver to the crossover just give some slack room if a driver or the crossover had to be removed but not totally disconnected for some reason in the future. If you do take the job on there is one bit of advice I'll more than happily pass on, don't take too long soldering the cable to the tabs of the tweeter diaphragms. The plastic melts easily. And be VERY sure you keep the phase in the correct order, that is, keep all + to + and - to - connections the same. I had one woofer out of phase and it made the speaker sound like, well, a Bose! But for God's sake, if youre even remotely handy with a soldering iron then do it yourself!! (bring a couple rolls of solder and two iron tips) I whole-heartedly agree with lynnm of spending the money elsewhere. Part of the fun of this crazy hobby is DIY. The biggest thing I noticed was the smoothing out of the midrange and a bit more bass extension. To me it was worth the $20 or so I have in the project. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-04-2002 at 08:53 PM

  14. On a serious note here, does anyone here "know" their Billy Idol stuff really well? I'm looking for a song I only know part of the lyrics to. Some like "If you want to rub--If you want to rub-a-dub, love....". That's all I remember. It came out 1985 or before. Thanks for the help guys!! (and girl ) ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  15. LOLOLOLOL This is classic!! Buy Billy Idol and for a little more money get.... Billy Idol and ?????? ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-03-2002 at 05:36 PM
  16. I might be wrong but I thought it was because more people were surfin' the board causing a lot more traffic. Since it's so inclimate with the weather in many parts of the country, rain in the South and heat in the around my area I can't see too many people going outside. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  17. We're not too far apart as far as what units are being swapped out. About 1 1/2 years ago I mothballed my Carver MX-150 Receiver and went to www.AudioClassics.com and bought a McIntosh C33 preamp and then a Rotel RB-1080 locally. It's not meant for HT because HT wasn't really around much 20 years ago when this thing was built. And although the Mac is older than the Carver, the Carver didn't even come close to Mac and the Rotel. O.k., so a Bryston will probably walk all over a Rotel but I havn't heard a Bryston yet. Granted I bought the Mac used but it works perfectly and looks even better. Audio Classics has a very conservative rating system. The unit is usually is in quite a bit better condition than most would think going by their grading scale. Every Mac is built by hand in Binghamton, NY by the same employees that have been doing the same thing for most of, well, my lifetime. The smooth but quick response from all frequencies is a big relaxing sigh of relief. The bass extension you'll hear from the Mac as well as the articulated thump you'll get from the Bryston will be a chord to behold. The kind of bass you feel and not hear will be a shocker. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  18. Strange, my Mac C33 has two MM phono inputs and wish it only had one so I could use the other for something else. Guess back then I should have gotten the C34V. Although, now I have a hankerin' for a C40. Damn this hobby.... ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  19. Thanks John- Glad I didn't bid on 'um. after all. Justin- I'm still not sure if I want the Special version or not. I'm almost leaning with "not". Mainly because it can be ordered with the handling and luxury package as an option with the base model. More choices in color options and since the base model comes with the same engine minus 5hp. I do believe I can make up for that +30 or so with only one night in my garage and about $600 in parts-- ala Borla, K&N and a moto tool grinder. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-01-2002 at 06:11 PM
  20. I just went through some cd's that haven't been played in a long time (talking 10 years or more) and found what a fun time in Edgar Winter's "They Only Come Out at Night". Even made a cassette of it for the car and wouldn't you know.....damn it....I left in the girlfriend's Plymouth Breeze! I also just got the GPF to get KHorns for the living room. Sure, Now that I'm saving up for a new car of my own she springs this on me. I can't win this weekend. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-01-2002 at 10:58 AM
  21. Aaaarrrgg!! Just when I'm saving up to buy a new Chrysler 300M Special the girlfriend comes to me and give the o.k. to buy pair of KHorns. I saw a set on eBay over the weekend and these had some sort of option that allows them to be placed anywhere in the room and does NOT necessitate corners in the room. That would be awsome since one of the configurations of furniture in our living room does not have the ability to have the right speaker supported be two walls but only one. Does this factory modification exist?? ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 07-03-2002 at 09:49 AM

  24. The Legends don't appear that much because they were discontinued in favor of the Refernce Series. You'll probably only se them in the Photo Gallery and listed in the Manuals section. I can't really compair the two for I haven't heard the Reference line yet, or at least been a dealer's shop that didn't have their nose up their a--. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  25. quote: Originally posted by kenratboy: Whats next, public Christmas celebrations (giant X-mas trees, parades, etc.) will be canceled due to religious problems? Just think about that, thats what scares me, not just the pledge. That's happened here in Cincinnati already. On Fountain Square (the center of town and a sort of 'town square') a few years ago the KKK wanted to put up a cross representing their beliefs. Seeing there was already a Christmas tree on the square and a Jewish Menorah, and has been for years every year, the KKK was calling this "equal time". The first few years this controversy went on the media was on it like hair on a gorilla. People would knock over the KKK's cross at night and sometimes by day. But it was re-erected in short time. Now to put something like that on public property one must get a permit from the city. The permit for the Menorah and the Christmas tree were issued months earlier. The application for the KKK cross would come in just under the wire, so the city got an idea. The city knew exactly who was going to put up a display on the square each year. So the city only issues made available that many permits.....minus one! The KKK's. So when their application would come in the city could respond by saying "Sorry, there are no more application available. That lasted about two years. So the KKK sent their app. in a lot earlier and someone else got denied. The city retaliated by putting the KKK's display in a very inconspicuous place on the square where hardly anyone would notice it. The local media barely even covers it as a news story anymore because it's gotten so old. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 06-28-2002 at 08:35 AM
