Now I will have to wait till September to get my proper sound back - such is life!! I hear ya Max! My girlfriend loves to rearrange the furniture (as well as removing/replacing the area rug) twice a year. Thought I had a handle on it after I took measurements of speaker, couch, TV, audio rack, recliner etc... and just put things back where they were six months earlier, right? Not this lady, she goes out and buy all new furniture!! Aaaarrrrggg!!! I bought a Shure V15VxMR about a month ago and it was very bass heavy for the first 30-40 hours or so. Now it's setteling down to a nice neutral tone. I did notice, however that it has a little more surface noise than when it was new. Maybe the bass was drowning it out. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  2. Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'-Keep them doggies Rollin'..... There is a fix for this!! And Mondial makes it!! Look in the products sectionof the Klipsch site and look for a product called MAGIC. It may be the animal you need; runs about a C-note. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  3. You may want to check out a McIntosh MX-134. It's the first Mac I've seen that's in 7.1 . ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  4. Jim, I'm sure I'll get flamed for this by the purists and supporters of their own brand but you may want to try Monster Cable's Interlink 300mkII. I'm pretty sure Circuit City and like places carry them. They should run about $30-$40 each stereo pair in 1m length. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  5. O.k.--- Here's an update. Carole King's Greatest Hits has been re-released as being remastered from the original tapes. The old release was on ODE Records #EK 34967 which was pretty dismal in sound quality. Now on the ODE/Epic/Legacy label #EK 658-46. I still wouldn't call it worthy of Mobile Fidelity or Blue Note but it is a far cry better than what was done before. On the old version both the music and vocals sounded rather fuzzy and unsure of their place. The new one has cleared up a lot of that. The binding lable on the jewel case is a dead givaway. The first issue has a white lable where the remastered is the same color brown as the cover-art. Worth the $11.99 I paid at Borders Books and Music. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  6. Everyone genuflect in unison in front of DNTBY4N!! We are all here to serve him.... DNTBY4N-- Are you implying that if a member of our Public Safety Dept. or Armed Forces saved you from fatal harm and died themselves doing it then you would not feel the least bit of gratitude; as if they owed it to you?? ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 03-24-2002 at 12:56 AM

  8. It's still hard for me to take Leslie Neilsen in a serious role like that. JD- I really wasn't mounting a big defense but somethimes it take sme a while to seperate the "kidders" from the "instigators". I like jokin' around as much as anyone. On the other hand, there was a wart... ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  9. If you haven't already, mount it to a camera tripod to get a good fixed-stationary position. I'm pretty sure they have the threaded mounts on those SPL's. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  10. Just don't ask me to find the gas cap on a 56' Bel Aire again. Oh contraire. I really love all the Sci-Fi movies from that era that I watched when I was 10 (1975). My parents were married in 57' and dad, at the time, drove a 55' Olds 98 Convertable w/Rocket 98 engine. When I first met my (now) girlfriend she told me she had a 50' Buick Roadmaster with an automatic shift. After I picked up my tounge and went to go look at it, turns out it was a near empty hull of what WAS a 50' Buick. DOH!! Taking on that tast was dimished by the fact that she also drove a Saab 900s so all the wrench turning was on that thing. Just that I find myself buying DVD's of music concerts of either bands I listened to in the 70's or ones I attended. No real distain for 56', just very few classics I'm THAT interested in. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit

  13. Sorry guys about not getting (in Star Trek "The Movie" lingo) 'Required Information that V-Ger needs'. It's in Widescreen format, DD- English 5.1 Surround, English DD Surround. This is quoted from the box. Try This: The Ten Commandments on DVD ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 03-19-2002 at 08:27 PM

  15. DV- I did a quick search on Google and a few other engines and came up with zilch. You may want to see if you can find a copy of Orion's Blue Book at you local library. I think to buy a copy may be a little pricey but not over a C note. There are a few "antique" pieces in my set up I'd like a know a little about as well. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  16. quote: Originally posted by Vonrebel: Today I went to an upper end audio store and checked out a $1,000.00 Rotel power amp. The RB-1080, 100 watts x 2 ch. (To keep for three days.) Just give them a credit card and check it out like a library book. Uhhh...The Rotel RB1080 is 200/wpc not 100/wpc. You may also want to give it some time to break-in. Mine ran very hot for about two months (only occational playing) last Summer but over the Winter it has settled down. 17. I don't mind paying a little extra (read 20%) for a remastered disk that I probably already have. But when Mobile Fidelity (from www.amusicdirect.com ) is selling them for 2X to 10X what I think they should be, well, let's just say it would have to do all the house work and arrange a date with Brooke Burke before I'd lay out THAT kind of cash. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit

  20. I hope you e-mail back the writer of the article and demand a very noticeable correction made to this mis-information (read-not on page 36 under the local school lunch menus). If a negative or no response is given then tell him your going to the the papers biggest competitor and give them the a truthful exclusive. Around here both local newspapers are owned by Gannett Newservice. Man I hate massmedia!! ------------------ Tom's Money Pit

  22. Here's a link to another part of the BB that might help. Believe me, we went round and round on this subject and I still have all the praise in the world to do what I did. To say the least the bass extention went through the floor. It took quite a while to get it done (about 7 hours on a pair of KLF-20's) and two soldering iron tips being burnt and rounded over to the shape of a finger. If you have to time to kill and just a little bit of scratch to burn (about $25-$30) then it is worth while. 23. You want ODD? Here's a beut. I'm looking for a children's vinyl album I once had in kindergarden. It was Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole in "Yellow Pinky" from 1965, their first season on TV. Probably on a Hanna/Barbara lable. The series only last about a season and a half. Just wanted to have a lot of laughs again from this one. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit This message has been edited by tblasing on 03-13-2002 at 12:14 PM
  24. MacArthur in drag?? Sorry, couldn't resist that one. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
  25. O.k. so I usually don't buy movies that were made in 1956 but this one I've always viewed as a definite classic. The colors were to say the least eye-popping. There may have been some color enhansing going on during the transfer to DVD. It was most apparent when Nefretire (sp?) would visit Yoshabell in the slums. The audio had a little too mush dynamic range for me; not much but almost enough to reach for the remote. Scenes with thunder and the like also has been added to. A little extra 60Hz and under was a nice touch and a good carrier of the power of God. Well worth sitting for 3 2/3 hours to see. Could waite till Easter to watch it on TV and glad I didn't. ------------------ Tom's Money Pit
