  3. Claude, would you recommend crossing them at 1.5k? Is LR2 at 1.5K safe? Yes I totally agree, these tweets are a steal at this price.
  4. I love the sound of ribbons, usually and I always was mesmerized by the sound of Heils back in the late 70s. I think the "speed" of compression drivers might be easier to integrate with AMTs than cone mids!?!? Just a theory, but so far so good. I can say that after playing Pink Floyd's The Wall at more than moderate volume, these guys have no issues, show no strain and bring out very subtle details. I wonder how they would fare at 1.5KHz 4th order? This isn't a slam dunk, but I don't think I'm too far off with this baseline (1-2db down on the AMTs seems to be about right in my room) Claude has been working on his Super CWs for a while and I liked the idea of moving the x over point on the mids down to 4k. I think that helps a lot.
  5. ESS is having a sale on The Great Air Motion Transformer tweets. Their 4ohm, 96db/w/m rating made me think they might do well on Cornwalls. So I bought a pair of them, a pair of the large Dayton AMTs and the smaller Aurum Cantus Aerostiction tweet. For the last week I’ve been listening to them. I have the mids and tweets crossed over at 4k, LR2. I unplugged the stock horn tweet and put them back in the cab. The Daytons were my least fave. The Aurum Cantus were very very sweet. The ESS sound the best to me. Plus I think I could play them loud crossed at 2k LR2. The ESS can give that Magneplanar ribbon type detail and dipole presentation only they can play really loud. I think I pad them a db. I think there’s a lot of improvement to be made in the crossover as I just used an online calculator and went from there.   8. Roger. Is there a downside to using a 1.4” driver and larger horn? And with the larger horn/driver moving the xover point lower?
  9. To be fair I’ve not spent much time with the WWT configuration. My experience with CF-4s was very positive. Driven by decent Luxman SS gear they had a smooth and unique klipsch voice and they had really good “audiophile” (I’m holding my pinky out) imaging. I attributed what I was hearing with D’Appolito as I’m a Hertiage guy. But that is really my only data point with that config. I was using the CF-4 as a reference and I can certainly add volume to the cabinet to make the F3 lower and I can brace the daylights out of the cabinet too. The goal is to remake a unique Klipsch design and improve where feasible. But now I have to consider WWT... dang it Thanks for the input you guys.
  10. Yes that makes sense. If I went with the Faital 142 horn, they recommend 800HZ as the crossover freq. I know the Cornscala D crosses this horn lower than that. Even crossed at 700HZ I could get the HW321’s 2k spike heavily attenuated with a 3rd order x-over. Can Roy be bribed with Scotch? Asking for a friend.
  11. I’ve never seen them before but man they look badass. That’s really cool. I’m thinking about a constraint of around $2k for the pair for my project. Plus Scotch for my friend who makes perfect cabinets.
  12. Maybe I should have called it Big D’Appolito. Yes. This is where the heavy lifting comes in. I can cross the HF146/Faital horn at 700HZ and I can use a calculator to tune the box and come up with a generic 3rd order x-over, but I forsee a lot of trial and error. Unless I went electronic and established a baseline that way I suppose. I’m out of my element with this part.
  13. I am considering building a super CF-4. I’m thinking similar size and performance and to the extent possible perhaps improving performance. I have access to a cabinet maker with cnc saws so I think the cabinet part would be relatively easy. At least for me. The Ciarre HW32s look sort of interesting as do the Faital Pro 144 or 146s on the Faital horn. I have no experience with the Ciarre drivers though. I just threw those out there as something that might work. Maybe someone else has thought about this. And I know there are some people who are very knowledgeable about the CF Epic series.

  15. Yeah that right there is beautiful. I have owned two pair of Khorns in my life...if I were to buy another, it would be a drop dead gorgeous pair like this....(don't need khorns, don't need khorns)

  18. Did you apply the veneer, and if so, I don’t suppose you could reveneer some ‘86 Walnut Cornwalls in that finish? Very nice. All these posts have me thinking my veneer is dull and in need of some work.
  19. I was out of adjustment for VTA and still nose down. Yes, for sure, it required recalibrating the tracking force. It went from sounding like a good cartridge to sounding magical. I think I’ll leave it alone.
  20. Sounds best this way...took a spacer and a second mat to get that slight tail down. Not sure what to make of that.
  21. How do you run your AT33PTG, with respect to VTA?
