  1. Well, I think Crites' cornscala crossover is set at 500 and 5000. I think that would be the easiest route for the crossovers. From what I've read, the CT-125 easily goes down to 4500 and the fastrac should be able to handle 500 well with the k55. The consensus seems to be between 500-600, I wonder if Bob can set the crossover at 600 and 5000, if that would be better? I think I'm going to put out a bulletin for anyone in Arkansas to help route the opening for the fastrac. I have access to a router, but have no experience using it. hkliner, your build is what initially got me motivated to do this. Any advice you can give from your experience is appreciated. So I've got the K55 and CT-125 in my 79 cornwalls. Next to get is Crites' cast woofer and cornscala XO. Then match these with Dave's fastrac. Am I missing something, or anything I need to amend in my plans?
  2. Don, Your posts are getting me jazzed up to cut into my "new" Cornwalls. How difficult was your crossover build? I've never done it, but think it's within my capabilities.
  3. It seems to me that the extreme slope XOs would protect the drivers in the long run as they would be operating within a smaller range. But, then again, what the hell do I really know...haha.
  4. Guys, I just got some 79br cornwalls with the intent of modding. I'm wanting Gothover's fastracs, Crites' cast woofers, and it has the ct125s already. I've been looking at crossovers and this is where I need help making a decision. The crossovers I'm looking at are Crites' cornscala crossover and Al's AP12-600 + ES5800. Does anyone here have any experience with these crossovers and the fastrac? Would the ES600 + ES5800 that AL offers yield a better result? With the drivers I've mentioned above, which crossovers are going to perform the best? I'm not an engineer by any means and a lot of what I'm reading is over my head, but AL's site is full of easy to understand writing. His descriptions of extreme slope crossovers make a lot of sense, I just don't know how it plays out with cornwalls. I understand the XO frequencies of the ES XOs, how do the other crossover's frequencies interact? I'm just not informed enough to make a decisioin. Hope you guys can help me out. I know I'm asking quite a bit here, thanks for the help.
  5. Haha, I wish there was more of a swap meet, but Me Loves Khorns and I made a swap. He's got a pair of minty Forte IIs and I've got some pretty nice Cornwalls. Haven't had a chance to hook em up yet, but I will soon. They sure are a lot bigger!!
  6. Yes, I was there Fri, but I missed out Sat due to some unexpected family arrivals. But thanks to Picky, I was able to catch some of the live stream.
  7. I'm going to bring my ma-6200, I had been thinking about sending it to TDewick for recapping, but it sounds good to me. Wouldn't mind having some discerning ears on it.
  8. Not really looking to sell them, but you never know what kind of trades might be in store. They're the only speakers I have at the moment. Obviously just about anything can be bought, but to me they're worth more than what the market usually fetches for them. But, someone might be looking for some Forte IIs and trade in some gear that I can't pass up. Besides, I think trading gear is more fun than buying and selling. [H]
  9. Here are the Forte IIs I'll bring.They're a solid 9/10.
  10. Saw these on craigslist, I'm calling about the c-22 but am wondering about the speakers. Thanks
  11. I thought about it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to have it gone over and have the deoxit done properly. I just emailed Terry Dewick to get input from the horse's mouth. If he thinks it should get the full treatment, I'll just send it to him.
  12. Hmmm, doesn't sound promising. I'm heading to Durham's tomorrow for the service, when I get some new gear I'll send it for the Dewick treatment.
  13. Yep, the Blueberry is what I'm looking at. I've noticed they're popping up less and less though. I guess with no new ones being put out they're being held onto pretty tight. I know there are lots of differences in the amps, but I've not heard any of them.I like the VRDs on paper the best, and everyone raves about them, but they're not cheap. The latino st-70 or st-120 looks to be a good bang for buck deal, and have read nothing but good things. Bottlehead may be somthing I want to build in the future but I'm not sure about using as my main. If I pull the trigger on the VRDs, I'll need to refill the coffers before I move on the Juicy Music.
  14. Well, I have a short list of tube amps that I'd like, VRDs at the top of the list but also Latino's st-70 or Bottlehead. But I've only got reviews to go on. Since listening to the Mcintosh the last few months I've come to love the sound. Now I'm thinking of sticking with it. The Mac tube amps are pretty pricey but may be worth it for the sound. I've also been looking at the mc-2105 and mc-2505 for a SS alternative, and for around a grand I think they're a real bargain. For a pre, I was thinking a c32 or c33. Before having the mac, I was almost set on a Juicy Music pre. I think I'd still like the JM if I went with one of the tube amps above. I planned on starting a "I've got $3500 or so to spend, where should I spend it" thread.
  15. I'm inclined to agree. There are too many good reviews of Terry's work not to have his treatment. I've been following some of his threads on AudioKarma, and dude, this guy is the sh*# when it comes to Macs. That said, I'm planning to move to separates in the near future, using the 6200 as a pre at first then finding a proper pre. I thinik I'm going to get this serviced here in LR to last till I get the separates going, hopefully by summer's end. This integrated will be perfect for a second system, and built so well it could be passed on to my great grandchildren... and I don't even have kids...ha! Terry's got a 2 month backlog, and rightly so, I just don't have a backup amp. And I can't go 2 months without spinning the black circle (a little PJ reference).
  16. I want a new one, bought this Macbook Pro in 2006 and it won't die!!! So I have no excuse to get a new one. They are built like a tank, mine is still humming right along and never had so much as a hiccup. I had a Powerbook since 2002 but passed it along to my mom once the Intel Macbook Pros came out, she still uses it everyday without any problems.
  17. I've yet to see hertiage speakers that looked good painted white, really painted any color. Veneering seems like more work than you're wanting to do now. I've got a neice that is 17 and loves vintage stuff, she's into 35mm and polaroid photography, ect. It's the cool thing for them now and I bet you could find an old Marantz 22xx receiver for a few hundred bucks. They have an AUX input for the ipod and would sound great with the Heresys, it would have that vintage blue that everyone loves. As far as the speakers, I hate to suggest anything drastic, I'd probably fill in the chips, sand the hell out of it and put a light stain on it. pretty boring I guess for what you're looking for. If you're wanting to get crazy, you could put some sort of handmade "sock" over it with whatever material, when she tires of it, boom, just slip it off.
  18. I recently purchased a MA-6200 and it is cosmetically and functionally superb. It sounds awesome! The only kink is some static in the volume pot. I talked to a guy in Little Rock at Durham Electronics, he said that he does not do the "complete restorations" as he believes in not replacing anything that hasn't gone bad. He said that he does a thorough run through and will replace or fix anything to bring it to spec, that there is no reason to replace bulbs, caps, ect if they are functioning within original parameters. Well, he seems like a straight forward guy and I'm inclined to take his advice, but from what I've read on the forums, the restorations done by Craig at NosValve or by Terry Dewick are essential for vintage gear. Does anyone have any experience with Durham Electronics and their work? The amp sounds great and looks great, but then again, is this a case of "you haven't heard what it's really capable of"? If I serviced it locally I'd be out about $100 and without tunes less than a week. If I send it in for restoration I'm looking at probably $350 or more and at least 2 months without tunes. And I've seen some horrible pics of shipping accidents and Macs. Since the Mac is in such good shape to begin with, am I looking at diminishing returns for a full restoration? If it had more problems I probably wouldn't think twice about sending it for full restoration. Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks in advance. Andy
  19. Well, I still have my house in Fayetteville, but I'm In Arkadelphia temporarily to help my mother through a stroke. She's making a quick recovery and I should be back in Fayetteville sooner than we thought. I brought the Forte IIs and Mcintosh along to help out with the therapy...ha!
  20. Cornwalls... interested. I've got Forte IIs and a Mcintosh 6200 that I love but might swap or sell to interested parties. I don't have to lug them too far thankfully, only 20 minutes from Hope
  21. I think I'm going to go check it out. Just hate to plunk $250 down and be disappointed. I'll be using for music 90%, so I want tight and fast, but I want low too. I had considered waiting for a Vandersteen 2WQ, but I hate the idea of having more in my sub than I do in my speakers... haha. Maybe I should look at it as how undervalued heritage Klipsch can be.
  22. There is a sw12 II in walnut that would perfectly match the veneer of the Forte IIs i picked up a few months ago. I like the bass of the Forte IIs fine, not really actively seeking a sub, but wouldn't mind filling out the bottom end. So, is this sub any good? How does it compare to a subs under say $700? I did a search but failed to come to any conclusions. Thanks, Andy
