  1. found it... see quote from manual for the Oppo dv-980 "Due to copy-control restrictions and bandwidth limitation, full resolution audio output from DVD-Audio or SACD playback cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to DVD-Audio or SACD in full resolution, please use HDMI or analog audio connections."
  2. It isn't the DAC. The reciever and DVD will not output those signals... same way it won't output my SACD to a DAC but will only output via analog. This is by design another form of copyright protection. Somebody smarter can correct me if I am wrong...
  3. I would check the back of the speakers both inside and out and see that it is sealed tight and nothing is loose (especially the back). Also, I'd attach cleats at the top and at the bottom for extra safety and to eliminate potential rocking. Show us the pics when you are done!
  4. Wishing you all the best on your venture! I hope to visit some day!
  5. On Sept 22, 2012 Howard H. Scott, a Developer of the LP, Dies at 92 http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/07/arts/music/howard-h-scott-a-developer-of-the-lp-dies-at-92.html?hpw&_r=0
  6. See: http://www.belcantodesign.com/Belcanto_REFLink.html to start at or near the top of the list. also look at the ulink and mlink for cheaper options. These are built in Minnesota just down the road from where your DAC was built.
  7. At some point you have to stop reading specs, just spend some money, and listen. Buying and selling used you aren't out too much.
  8. I don't worry TOO much about the Cardas being good enough. They are very clear sounding with just a hint of wetness.....I wonder if the VCaps might be so revealing as to make the system require only the best of the best in recordings. Since I am very happy with the Cardas as is, I figure it best to leave them as is - especially for the difference in price. The Cardas are an OUTSTANDING value in a high end cap. +1 on Cardas caps! They are great caps! as far as revealing... I want it all... good or bad. I don't even have 10 hours on the V-Caps yet so it will be some time before I hope for them to settle in and begin to shine. I can hear a bit of that familiar sibilance that I have heard before while waiting for film caps to break in. I don't remember what they were but it took almost 500 hours before that sibilance was gone. It just disappeared. It didn't seem gradual at all as one day I just didn't hear it anymore. In the mean time, I have no complaints and I am quite happy! The "sound" of the VRD mono blocks are really identical to the VRD stereo. What difference I can hear is an increased tightness and feel of realism. That is about the best way I can describe it at this point. Hopefully, the V-Caps aren't an exercise in conspicuous consumption and will be worth it to me in the end. I'm 99% of the way there now!
  9. Ahhhhh yes! Home at last! Bouncing around in shipping caused one of the V-Cap leads to break free so a little solder surgery was needed. Those are some heavy capacitors! No problem... all is good!

    What I Got Today!

Just saw this... Beautiful thaddeussmith... just beautiful! I love my Belgium made Browning... best part was buying it with Dad 34 years ago. Wow! That was a long time ago. Congrats, be safe, and have fun!
  11. Don't forget to check the simple things like swapping out your RCA interconnects. I was beating my head over a problem with anemic sound coming from both channels and finally traced it down to the lousy Monster cable interconnects. Those RCA connections are pretty close on the Scott... some cables you just can't use. edit: Oh, and remove the SP6 preamp out of the equation to test your source directly to the 222c.
  12. That should be pretty loud... you might want to check the volume on your source.
  13. I got his forum name wrong in my earlier post but Tom (tk49 on the forum) built the wood cabinets and shipped them to NOSValves where Craig built the amps. I have to say I am pretty excited! I'm very happy about the way the cabinets came out and these amps in their basic configuration are great... with upgrades in tubes and components it is all an extra bonus!
  14. Yeah, I wish I had these skills too! I don’t think they are charging a lot for labor though. I didn’t spend much on cosmetics but the Teflon film and foil Vcaps added around 25% to the price. Here is some more info on them: http://www.v-cap.com/teflon-capacitors.php I had tried the Cardas golden ratio caps in the ST 45 and really liked them... I hope to love the Vcaps! Now if I can just get my room figured out and get some of the furniture and junk out of the way.
  15. Do you have them yet...... Don't have them yet. Craig is funny about that... he probably wants me to finish paying him first! I'll be taking care of that ASAP.
  16. Shellacked... looking good IMHO! Ready to ship to NOS Valves.
  17. The cherry will darken with age and exposure to light as it becomes even more beautiful.
