  1. WRT to evidence of absence. You can't prove a negative.
  2. They are better known as the 'Maple Laughs' around here. Been all down hill for Toronto since Eddie Shack retired.
  3. Watching paint dry beats recent debates. Maybe we could build a giant Colosseum and bring in some lions and tigers for the next big debate.
  4. American NHL teams are actually 'Canadian Teams' and Canadian Pro Baseball Teams are actually 'American Teams'. Probably a good thing that hockey sticks are much thinner than bats too and most Canadian's play hockey. Things could get bloody. Still no 'warning points'... and this makes 200 posts!! Next topic: Religion!! 'The drug of the masses'!
  5. Fully agree there, but being a professional audio engineer in those days I used Ampex mastering tape exclusively for any important tasks and TDK SD for routine use. Neither show any signs of physical or audio degradation this day. I recall testing one tape I never even put on a machine. First taste was to take about a 2 foot piece and pull. This one immediately shed ALL particles leaving a clear piece of tape. Dave Here's the list of tape prone to thanks to some guy named Google: http://www.recordist.com/ampex/docs/misc/sticky-shed.html My recollection is that this list is pretty accurate.
  6. No. It was totally contrived. Sanders is on the Hillary Bandwagon now and expecting a nice VP position, of course if elected. It would be similar to FDR selecting Henry Wallace as his VP for his 1940 run. In Hillary's case there are rumors of her bad health. So unlike FDR she may not get a 2nd term and 2nd chance at a different VP on her 2020 ticket. That assumes she can get the nod and win in 2016.
  7. You do have a point, as we are in danger of traveling down the slippery slope. In this instance, I think as a group we are staying at the top of the slope, talking "about" the political game, instead of discussing the politics themselves. To be honest, I haven't seen the "right wing vitriolic diatribes" that have you concerned. We all view the world through our own political filters, so if that's how you see it, I can respect that. +++ Edit: I just went back and re-read the other posts. Joe in Post No. 15 does go on a rant, so you do indeed have a point. OK, two points. But in Joe's defense, I have a feeling if his army was in the middle where the democrat army was on one side and the republican army on the other, he'd attack both ways. As Basil Fawlty said about his German guests: Listen, don't mention the war. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it all right.
  8. Watching Hillary selling her soul to be something she's not - priceless. Then there's grandpa who describes himself as a 'democratic socialist'. In Europe or here they call themselves social democrats. They've also got a confirmed plagiarist currently 'benched', but warming up. You'd be better off pulling some guy off the street to run things.
  9. No idea where you got that. I have tapes older than that. No problems. Actually, my oldest is a couple of 3" reels from my first battery machine, which would be a little over 50 years. Do they sound any worse? Well, that's problematic as they weren't exactly hifi to start with...but still quite clearly audible and understandable. Dave Good point. Though it's not RTR....in my opinion, it's worse....it's a Cassette. Back in 1969 my dad took me to see Apollo 11 take off. He had a little hand held recorder and pretended somewhat to be a reporter during the several days that we were gone. During the actual lift-off I turned the machine on and from 1-2 miles away, recorded the sound. Somewhere around 2005, something like 45 years later he was cleaning some stuff out and found the old tape. He sent it to me so I could do with it what I wanted. I sent it out to a restoration guy who copied it to a CD You can still hear/feel the power of that Saturn V as it lit the candles. Heck... I'll see if I can attach it as a WMA file Nope, won't attach. Can send if anyone interested. Keep in mind the viability life of cd's is also going to be short as well.
  10. Watching the cast of clowns running for the GOP nomination all trying to out-Trump Trump in their debate was a hoot! Looking forward to see the (much smaller) cast of clowns running for their opportunity to out-left each other. They'll be bidding to out do each other with less of a game of musical chairs feel to it. We have three parties federally in Canada, all also run by clowns, who couldn't successfully run a lemonade stand on the hottest summer day ever in Canada. But at least they only have to sell their souls publicly to the Devil here for a 4 to 10 week campaign
  11. Sound advice even when changing a light bulb.
  12. Dave The big issue with some maker's rtr tape is not the magnetic issue but 'sticky shred'. Storage conditions may come into play but certain specific lines are notorious for shredding to pieces while sticking together.
  13. You mean they are going the politically correct route? JJK Might as well fire the staff tomorrow and lock the doors. I suspect the last few women featured will be the last to go.
  14. Yes, but do you have the right last name to go with the offer or the blade?
  15. All I can say, is given a choice between cones that sag and cones that don't... I take the non-sagging pair every time. The aftermarket can help with sagging cones Except for maybe the Meat Market still to be found, at times, as part of the local bar scene. But remembering back to my single days of old, frequently there was 'false evidence' on display.
  16. I've owed three big RTR players over the years (Sony, Technics and Teac). All three sound/sounded great so long as you have good quality (now expensive) tape. They also look real neat when running.
  17. I've been rather lucky in the economy of today. Don't need a marketing guy. Never had to get 'Linked-in' advertise, as word of mouth has keep me busy, even after I tried to mostly retire (too soon).
  18. I'm thinking the only way I'm going in there to look at those is wearing a carbon fiber moon-suit armed with a ray-gun, Jerry-can and a Bic lighter. I'd be doing the owner a favor.
  19. All I can say, is given a choice between cones that sag and cones that don't... I take the non-sagging pair every time.
  20. It still may. Agree. Unlikely, in the near term, that it will commence again in Europe. More likely miscalculations in the either the Middle or South East, or Asia (China or Korea). Sadly, people have been killing each other forever.
  21. I'm in the hired gun business too. More of a review then tell, show and bill them on a contingency basis. Been doing that for 19 years now and still haven't run out of things to say about things that need billing. Agree: Common sense is frequently uncommon in today's world.
  22. Nice looking knife too. German made?
  23. Greg does use the Beyma CP-25, but not the TPL-150 or 200. I believe the TPL-150 and 200's are horn loaded air motion transformers. They are pleated ribbon diaphragms like Oscar Heil designs. Sounds like 'Heil Oscar!' - a ridiculous an annual celebration at Oscar's favorite Beer Hall and some goose-stepping is called for here!! (Sorry, couldn't resist). This guy made me write this > That, and the thought of spending $900 on tweeters!
  24. I know we're not supposed to sneak politics into these proceedings, but I thought I was the only who read that and became infuriated by our government spending a half-billion on yet another foreign policy failure. They're are no white knights in the Hell on earth known as Syria today but given the choice of supporting the side of lessor evil, Putin, at least, chose the more ethical and pragmatic side.
