  1. I just put 4 5800's in my ceiling last night. What a load of work!
  2. I have been attic crawling and my back is killing me. Fortunately I found the wires there but they go down to the eve. The speaker cutouts wont be bad its just the wiring running. I have 2 more sets of wires to find
  3. will do! its going to be interesting to say the least
  4. the RC-35 was a piece of work. At lower volumes, it was muffled. I did not like it at all. When you started to crank it though, it started to shine. Kind of has a slow take off like the 7's and their bass. For me, at the time, i was only 6-8' from the center so lower volumes were more common. I am in a room now where i am 15' away and have a huge open room. The requirements of the center would have changed drastically for me had I kept the rc-35 i had.
  5. Velcro straps IMO. Zip ties are great but if you ever make changes, cutting them is a pain and you risk accidentally snipping wires. This is a fear of mine and is why i use Velcro.
  6. I didnt mention it above but changing the rolloff of the driver helps a lot too. I have my center sloped at 24db vs 12 or stock of what the speaker is (which i dont know)
  7. When you say it couldn't keep up, what do you mean? Just with its presence and not volume leveling?
  8. I bought some RCW-5's for rear in-wall but the one that completes me said nay nay. I thought it was great because it was the RS-7 beasties on the wall or my RB-5's. I can tell you this though, i wouldnt have bought these In-Ceilings at all if it wasn't BOGO. $400 a speaker is ridiculous when there isn't a finished enclosure to go with it. It was tough to drop the $800 on the 4 but I am hoping we will have this house for some time and it will pay off in the end. I hate buying speakers that can migrate with me. I mean, i suppose i could pay someone to patch the ceilings when/if we move but yeah. I will have some good photos I hope this weekend when things start to come together. I have to dismantle the system because we have to paint the in-wall center which is TV-Center-Amp-Processor etc and to cut holes for junction boxes. I think thats somewhat first on the list because the girlie can paint for me while i cut holes in her ceiling, i mean ours, i mean i think its ours.
  9. I pulled the trigger an got a BOGO deal from Mike at Acoustic Sound Design and im starting my in-ceiling install saga. I also received my monoprice install package, muhahahahaha. Of course, pictures or this thread is worthless. I bought 8" drivers to match with the rest of the set so hopefully i should have big sound from all around. I am going to do a 7.2 surround with this setup with the rear 4 channels in ceiling. This is due to WAF, yes i got WAF'ed, i never thought it would happen but i have hit opposition on the front line. We got a huge new couch which butts up against the rear wall so this is going to be a really interesting install since things will be right above us. These drivers are cool though, both the tweeter and woofer all swivel. I am planning to start snaking wires this weekend and fortunately the house came a bit pre-wire by the last owner. He ran wires for a 5 channel so i am just going to use his wires as guides. He has like 16 gauge, BAH and its not CL2 rated. I purchased some bi-wire monoprice CL2 cable and some single channel CL2 12 gauge wire so that i can setup bi-wire for the fronts and center. I also got XLR plates for the walls so that it can be a super clean install. I have my work cutout for me since its all open attic, nothing finished and I have looked for wires before and haven't found them. I have also never done in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. Ok nothing to do with speakers but here my lionel train set and north pole village!!!
  10. your receiver will do just fine but there is no substitute for a good power amp. For the time being, have fun with what you have.and welcome to the family. Most media is dynamic barring test tones so your power requirements will constantly change. Sometimes you'll be using 1 watt while others you may be using 50 watts. Most receivers suck on power output and I do mean the vast majority especially when you pit it against a power amp of "rated" output. The receivers that seem to bench test best are class D receivers but few manufacturers make them (pioneer has their SC line) but for the most part they are class AB amps within the receiver. I fancy Denon, i think they make a good product. My favorite is harmon kardon, they were also the company that made the first real true receiver as a side fact. Onkyo/Integra is good too and pioneer seems to be the best bang for the buck. After having gone the processor/power amp route, there are manufacturers now who make some slimmer amps and processors that are basically the same size as the majority of receivers which is what i would choose but i am spoiled now and have a bad case of upgradetitus. Enjoy!
  11. Personally, after reading the plentiful reviews and having personally owned some pro-media, i wouldnt buy a pro-media product again until the quality improves. The sound is good but the longevity of the amp and other such parts seems to be....meh. Thats why i went and bought a pair of Klipsch Icon W WB-14's and have them flanking my monitor! Hopefully the pod replacement fixes your issue though!
  12. Hands down worth the upgrade. The RF-5's have a more distinguishable low end that goes deeper than the 3 does and the presence is larger as well. Overall, it is a refined speaker and I love it!
  13. I thought that the RC-3 II was a fantastic center and is still one of my favorites. I like the fact that it is a sealed enclosure making cabinet placement much better. I think i had my RC-3 II cross at 80 hz and it did very well. I also have my RC-7 crossed at 80hz i think because it was getting sooooooo muffled being in a cabinet. I also wound up plugging the ports. I had used it previously with an open back at 60hz and it sounded great. Environment plays a lot into things especially with dialogue.
  14. SuBXeRo

    HTPC

you picked quality components and I really like that case. I have a salvage box that I have ubuntu on that i need more ram for than the 1 gig it has to make it a ghetto HTPC. Its more so for local music streaming and internet connection.
  15. RC-7 is the best option but an rc-3 II would work extremely well too and are typically more common.
  16. Amy!!!! Is klipsch still selling he mugs, posters, cups and t-shirts and stuff????
  17. RF-7's or RF-5's with an emotive umc-1 and outlaw 7125 7 channel amp. I am very pleased with my setup. Overall I noticed some headroom missing when it comes to the low end with more punch. I will say I notice it but it isn't huge. If I had the money I would upgrade. The amp isn't short on gas as my ears would bleed before they'd distort and the amp have no more juice. I like my outlaw more than the emo xpa-5 because I found it smoother and has a dead silent floor noise. Either one is a win win and there are tons of brands to choose from
  18. SuBXeRo

    Which Sub

Both are good companies. I have an HSU for my computer and it works well. I probably should have gotten a bigger one though haha, never enough bass
  19. SuBXeRo

    Which Sub

    Any particular reason those 2?
  20. The more power the better your headroom. HK makes awesome receivers btw. Take a look at outlaw audio too. Their site is underwhelming but their products are solid and made by ATI in the US. I had a tree xpa-5 and found my outlaw to be smoother all around even though it's 75 watts less per channel. I use it on my 7's without issue but I plan to boot the low end with their 200 watt monos in the future just because I can haha. Emotiva makes a solid product that's for sure and they are stylish too. The floor noise my xpa-5 drove me nuts and prompted my change. I am pleased with my purchase and happy to have an American designed, engineered and manufactured product
  21. Good choice. They make a tight sub that's for sure. Very accurate imo. I like 2 just to balance it out and to have headroom. Welcome to the doom boom club
  22. 3 of these http://outlawaudio.com/products/2200.html. They should provide good quality sound across the board. They stay in a class A/B at lower volumes but have a switching power supply that instantaneously jump voltage rails when more power is needed. I want to get 2 of these to power the bottom end of my rf-7's but that will come in time. 3 channel amps are on the rare side of things. The only time you would need it is for HT. I do know they exist but they are far from "common". The next best alternative is mono's as i suggested above or from the plethora of other manufacturers.
  23. very interesting. I am almost positive there is going to be a lawsuit of some kind. Not sure if it will be worth it. It sort of goes to show the law of diminishing returns here. Is it possible that they crammed $17,000 of extra value into their pre/pro? I..doubt..it.
  24. dead set with it against the wall. Its our main living room and would enclose it too much. We tried it and it just clutters the room up
  25. i think ill eventually do the in-ceilings. Thanks for the input guys!
