  1. Had my Panny S-series for a year now, and still absolutely love it. Great picture and very affordable. If I had the room the 65-inch would be up on my wall. I'm +1000 on the "no" 3d yet (or maybe ever). The glasses are killing it for people. Don't forget... Every pair extra pair of glasses is going to run you $100-200. Depending on how many people you have watching tv at the same time, that might blow that 1k budget. Let's us know what you end up with. Jrod
  2. Thomzz, you and I have a similar situation. Last Saturday I replaced my RF-82's with La Scalas. Before actually hearing the La Scalas at the seller's home, I had never heard a single speaker from the Heritage line (are Forte's Heritage? This always confuses me. Maybe "extended" Heritage???). I took a blind leap of faith (4-hr one-way drive to pick them up). Man, I'm glad I did. The mids of the La Scalas are just stunning. Just a completely new experience when listening to music. Now, I've never heard Fortes or Forte IIs, but everyone seems to love them. I think you are in for a really pleasant surprise. Enjoy your new speakers! And, let us know what you think. Jrod
  3. The picture from that Kuro is just stunning. Still the best blacks in the TV world. Very nice looking set-up. Jrod
  4. Sounds like a plan to me! I really like Onkyo gear for movie/tv viewing. The 62 II's are getting some great reviews from right here in the forum, so that's a good sign. You gotta start somewhere! Also....... Welcome to the madness!! Jrod
  5. Thanks Roger! I actually love the way they look. I think visually they are really exciting, better than a black, rectangular box, you know what I mean. It really was a leap of faith, until yesterday when I picked them up from Doug (Tuned4Life), I had NEVER heard ANY Heritage speaker. I went on 100% blind faith... about 30 seconds into the first demo song from Doug, I knew I was hooked. I knew the 4.5 hr one-way drive was completely worth it. A fullness that can't be explained in words. I've already told my girlfriend that at a bare minimum the 5.1 La Scala system is coming...eventually.
  6. Thanks guys! I'm listening to Bolero on them right now... This is just a completely different ballgame. Shockingly good.
  7. That set-up in an apartment?!? Yikes! I don't have the volume will power to keep things quiet, my neighbors would hate me! Congrats on the new gear! Very envious! Jrod
  8. I've had both LCD and Plasma. I realize it's a personal pref. but TO ME... The Plasma has a much better overall pic. As for "burn-in"... haven't seen it once in over a year and a half (I watch ESPN (the ticker) and play PS3 all the time, supposedly two of the most burn-in inducing practices). Everyone is right, there are a lot of variables. However, I've seen a professionally calibrated Kuro in a normally lit room... Absolutly breathtaking. Haven't seen an LCD/LED/ or other Plasma that can hold a candle to it. Again, personal preference.
  9. Good lord, Does he have anymore??? I'd make the 7 hr drive for that!
  10. Obviously, the 83-83-83 option would have to be behind a screen. So, which would sound better???
  11. That's a pretty good deal. Got my 82's, rc-64, and RT-10d for $1500 ($500 each is the way I looked at it). I thought it was a steal. I don't mess around either. Don't give the seller a chance to talk to other people. Someone may actually offer them more, you never know. Good luck! Jrod
  12. Need help with a La Scala size issue, ladies and gents. Would they fit in the back of a Jeep Liberty with the back seat laid flat??? Thanks in advance.

    3-D Anyone?

Hey guys, this is just mildly related to this discussion, but related none the less... The new Nintendo 3DS (handheld gaming/movie system, which comes out next March. It also has a 3D camera, kinda hokey, but could be fun for the kids) features 3D with no glasses, it debuted at E3 this year to some fantastic reviews. Now obviously this is going to be useless for our amazing home theaters, but it should be really cool, nonetheless. And, maybe a little glimpse into the future of what 3D COULD be. Only time will tell. All this said, I will not be buying a 3D television. The cost/benefit ratio is rediculous right now. I'll invest $300 in a 3DS and give that a shot before I drop $3000 on all the equiptment needed for 3D TV. Jrod
  14. That sounds like one helluva good system. I think you'll really enjoy it. [Y] Good prices too, from a very reputable dealer.
  15. Can't help you on the subs, but count me in on the "recommends the RF-82's" group. LOVE mine. Very good "bang for your buck" speaker. Don't be affraid to go the used route on your stuff. There is a very active, used Klipsch market, if you are patient you can find some really solid deals. I got my 82's used (as well as my RC-64 and RT-10d) for an absolute song... WELL below the msrp, and they are basically mint. Deals-a-plenty if you scour the used areas (audiogon, craigslist, the "Garage Sale" section of this forum), and have cash in hand. Good luck! Jrod

    The Black Keys...

Boxx, Ha! Just looked at your gear...WOW. Truely humbled in your presence. Fantastic stuff. I hope to accomplish that level of Klipsch'dom (not to mention Mac'dom) at some point in my life!! Incredible.

    The Black Keys...

Thanks for the kind words Boxx! Yes, please do give them a listen. A truely great band. Forum member "handrewmoore" has some great links to them in the "2-channel" section. I started the same thread over there. Really good stuff.
  18. Great stuff Andrew, and you are right, it's all good. From their "old" stuff to Brothers, just great music. I'll be seeing them Oct 10th in Tulsa. Really solid Fall music line-up coming to OK: The Black Keys Avett Brothers Band of Horses All great bands.

    The Black Keys...

It's tough (almost impossible) to find newer bands with a really soulful, meaningful sound. The Black Keys have just that sound. They are relatively new (formed in 2001) but when you listen to them you think they could have existed decades ago. Do yourself a favor and give this band a listen. If you like rough, bluesy, almost-grimmy rock; you will not be disappointed. That is all. Jrod

  21. Agreed! I love my RT-10d, but I would make that upgrade in a second if given the option!
  22. I'd say in good, used condition... I wouldn't pay more than $600-$700. If you can get it less than that, go for it. Jrod
  23. The 64, hands down. Let me ask you this, are you buying all this new? There is a pretty lively used market for Klipsch gear. That's actually how I got every speaker (and my amp) in my profile. There are deals to be had if you are patient.
  24. What Bill said. I have the RF-82/RC-64 combo and absolutely love it. Eventually I will upgrade to either the RF-63's or 83's, but it's nice to know my center isn't going anywhere. And, since the center is the focal point to any HT set-up, that's where you should spend your $$$. From what I've read the RSW-10d would be superior to the RW-12d. I have the RT-10d and it shakes my house. Good luck, let us know what you end up with! Jrod
