    setup

That setup sounds correct. But here's a suggestion. Get a y-adapter and then plug the cable into both inputs. You will get a 6 dB increase from your sub. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Sound Blaster Live! 2. Well, according to this thread, http://216.37.9.58/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001310.html , the 10 will cost $1000, the 12 will cost $1300 and the 15 will cost $1700. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Sound Blaster Live! 3. OY! What's taking them so long? I want to see some specs for the 10 inch. As you can see in my sig, I'm deciding between that and the HGS-10. Can anyone guess what the price of the RSW-10 would be? 'Cause price would also be somewhat of a factor in my decision. After all, the HGS-10 is not exactly cheap. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Sound Blaster Live! 4. Care to elaborate on that Keith? I'm considering on getting one in the near future. ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Sound Blaster Live! 5. I don't really think that hdtv's would be a solution for displaying computer output. I think if you hook a video card to an hdtv, it will still look like ca-ca. The main reason is dot-pitch. Computer monitors will always look sharper than tv because of the dot-pitch. The dot-pitch in monitors range from 0.20-0.30mm. So far, the dot-pitchs I've seen for hdtv range from 0.70-0.80mm. That is a HUGE difference. And plus, to get the higher resolutions on hdtv, wouldn't you need to use the component inputs? I don't think there's a video card out there that has component output.
  6. Has anyone heard this line of subs before? I was talking to a friend, and he strongly suggested getting one of them. Looking at specs on the net, it appears that the 10" sub from this line goes down to 20 Hz. They sell for about $1000 Canadian (about $650 US). Just looking at these specs, it seems that this sub is very comparable to the HGS-10, which is what I have been looking at for some time now. Actually, the whole line is comparable to the whole HGS line. Now because this sub is about half the price of a HGS-10, it seems like a very good alternative. If anyone has heard these subs and the HGS subs, please tell me how they compare. In case any of you remember my previous posts about looking for a sub, I still haven't found one yet. I have Quintets, and I'm basically looking for a small sub (no larger than 10") that's really powerful. I love the tight bass from a small sub. One other sub I'm considering is the RSW-10, but I haven't seen any specs or heard of a price for them yet. Does anyone know anything about it? 8. Speaking of HGS subs, does anyone think the HGS-10 will go well with the quintets?
  9. Try building your computer yourself. That way you get what you want, and you could save yourself some money, if you know where to buy the components. Personally, I would go with an athlon processor with 256 megs of DDR ram. But seeing that your not that knowlegable about computers, you should email me. I could help you out with any questions you have. -Paul
  10. I've never heard of a video card with a THX certification, let alone a card that is compatible with THX. You shouldn't have to worry about this THX compatibility one bit. To me, THX means absolutely nothing. IMO it's just seems like a marketing ploy for Lucasfilm, so people automatically think that something must be good if there's a THX logo on it. I feel so sorry for the people that fall into this marketing trap. If you want to get the ProMedia 4.1's to go with your GeForce3 and SCTB, then by all means, get them. This THX compatibility seems like absolute bull s**t to me. A GeForce3 with ProMedia's will surely create an ultimate gaming experience. -Paul
  11. Does anyone know if you can watch dvds using the H+ and get DD-EX or DTS-ES? My receiver can decode both of those formats. So far, it seems that the card only can do DD and DTS. But since the card has a digital out, would my receiver decode those formats? Thanks -Paul

  13. The only time the quintets would be good to use as rears is when you're using them as mains and a center as well. Don't use with anything else, they just won't be able to keep up with the rest of your speakers. I suggest that you save up a little and get the RS-3's. You would be regretting it later if you get anything less. -Paul
  14. I can only hope that DwK is joking. After seeing all of his posts where he's bashing bose, I was kinda shocked to see him complimenting them, especially those terrible little cubes.
  15. Any of the SB 5.1 cards would be perfect to use with the ProMedia 5.1's. The card decodes DD itself, but the media that you're listening to must be encoded in DD in order to get the 5.1 sound. WinDVD will output the DD (and if the version supports it, DTS as well) through the 5.1 analog outputs of the card. For watching DVD on TV, you would need a card that is specifically designed for that. Just a normal video card with a composite or s-vid output won't look that great. You would need an actual DVD decoder card, ie. dxr3, to get a good picture on your tv. However, if you use a decoder card, you would need to use a separate digital audio decoder such as the Audio Tornado in order to get the 5.1 sound. This is because the dvd cards only have a digital audio out. Paul This message has been edited by oogins on 07-10-2001 at 05:52 PM
  16. I'm looking for a new sub to go with my system. I'm currently using a Sony 60 watt mini-sub (sad, ain't it?) 'cause it was all that I had at the time. I'm using the Quintets with a Denon 3801 and it is hooked up to my computer. I'm using this system as my computer speakers (a lot better than the ProMedia 4.1, which is what my friend has), and it adds great excitment to my gaming and dvd watching. All I need is a TV and I would have a home theater right in my bedroom (Wouldn't that make my parents proud). Anywho, I've been thinking about getting a Klipsch sub to match my speakers. The problem is that I can't decide between the KSW-12 and 15. I don't want a 10 because I like a lot of bass and I've heard many people say that it just isn't powerful enough. The size of my room is 12'x12'. I haven't had a chance to demo any of the subs because we live an hour and a half from the closest Klipsch dealer, and my parents won't let me drive that far by myself (Keep in mind, I'm only 16). However, my dad is taking me into the city next Saturday, so I'll get a chance to demo them then, and that's probably when I'll buy too. I'm sure after I demo them that I'll be able to decide, but I would kinda like to have some feedback and suggestions from you guys.

  18. Is it safe to use the quintets with the Denon 3801? I'm thinking about getting a new receiver and the 3801 appeals to me the most. However, I'm a bit skepical as I don't know if my quintets will be able to handle the power of the 105 watt output of the 3801. If anyone could please give me some info on this or maybe a suggestion of a different receiver that I could use. I don't really want to get new speakers because of the limited space in my apartment.
  19. I recently bought 5 quintet satellites off of ebay and I'm now in search of a sub. I'm thinking about a KSW-12 because it's frequency response is 26-100Hz. The frequency response for the quintet satellite is 100Hz-20kHz. Those two ranges fit perfectly. Is this the right choice, or am I better off getting the KSW-10 because it's the sub that's comes with quintet packages? The reason why I'm asking is that I don't have a quintet center (I'm using a satellite for the center), and it's freq. res. is 120Hz-20kHz. The KSW-10 is 29-120Hz. I think this is the reason why the KSW-10 is used with the quintet system. Am I right?
  20. How much difference is there between the quintet satellite and the quintet center? I recently bought 5 satellites and they sound great. I'm just wondering if it would sound better if I had a center speaker rather than a satellite for the center channel.
