  1. Where can you find single satellites? I'm trying to get one so I can have a 7.1 setup. Right now I have 5 satellites and the center.
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=1322402949 For anyone interested.

I also like the fact that they are modded Marantz CD players, and I have always liked Marantz's appearance. But there are a few questions I have, hopefully you guys can help me. What are the main differences between the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 and the Heart Tube Output CD 5000? I believe the 5000 is newer than the 4000, but the 4000 is more expensive. Does this mean the 4000 is better than the 5000? Second, how well will these CD players sound if being used with SS amps? I really have no intentions of buying any tube amps in the near future. Lastly, what's the build quality like on these players? Are they likely to break down after a couple years? Anyone?

  5. Excellent choice of receiver and speakers Vatican.
  6. 28 grand? I thought they were way more than that. More in the area of 85 grand.
  7. Justin, some DVD-A's have a DD 5.1 track on them. I have Metallica's Black Album and it works fine on my computer. I use a Pioneer 16X DVD drive with WinDVD 2000. It sounds great but I can't wait until I have an actual DVD-A player.
  8. When my dealer showed me the Myryad T-10, I was a bit skeptical because I never heard of them before. After doing some research, I learned Myryad is a quality brand from Britain. They are owned by Chris and David Evans, both formerly of Arcam and NAD. After learning this info I called my dealer to ask about the CD player but alas, my dealer already sold the T-10 demo. If I'm able to talk the price of a new unit down to around $500, I'll definately pick it up. This message has been edited by oogins on 01-12-2002 at 06:18 PM

  10. What's your opinion on the Myryad T-10? My dealer is selling the demo for $499. Regular price is $799.
  11. I called a local Denon dealer asking about the MSRP. He doesn't have any official information yet but he's guessing it will be about $4500 US or $7000 CAN.
  12. http://www.hometheatermag.com/shownews.cgi?167 Sounds very sweet! Too bad I can't afford it.
  13. I want to get a decent single disk CD player. I'm willing to pay up to $500, but no more. The Marantz CD5000 is the only one I've found in this price range. Can you guys suggest any other CD players?
  14. The Quintet satellite will sound the best, but the SC-.5 will look better. It all depends on what's more important to you. One thing to keep in mind, the Quintet will handle 100 watts while the SC-.5 will only handle 50 watts.
  15. Heh! I hear Academies are hard to come by. And if someone owns one, I doubt they would want to sell it. Keep checking eBay. Good luck.
  16. quote: Originally posted by matthew2: Well, after hearing so many good things about bryston, I decided to go to their web site. I went to the dealer locator, and was emailed today. There are 2 dealers here!!! Lucky you! There is only 1 Bryston dealer here in Calgary and we're over 20 times the size of Grande Prairie. Because you have 2 dealers there, they will likely compete, so you may get a helluva deal. My dealer won't budge more than 5% off MSRP and the next closest dealer is 150 km away in Red Deer.
  17. Soundog, I have considered the Outlaw 1050. I think it would sound excellent and it's build quality is the best in it's price range (36.3 lbs ). But I have decided not to get it after reading it can't do 6.1 for DTS, only DD. Their 950 pre/pro and 770 amp package looks interesting but it's probably out of my price range. EDIT: After reading through the 1050 FAQ's again, I realized this unit can do DTS 6.1. You need to use an external DTS decoder and connect it to the 6 channel inputs. Then the Outlaw can matrix the rear center from that. The 1050 is back on my list of considerations. BAH! I hate this hobby. This message has been edited by oogins on 12-21-2001 at 04:05 PM
  18. The other day, I went to my local dealer for some receiver auditioning. They are both a Denon and Yamaha dealer. I went straight to their Denon showroom to check out the 2802. The price for it was $1399 ($885 US) and it's negotiable. Next I went to the Yamaha showroom to check out the RX-V1200. Its cost is $1425 ($900 US), which is also negotiable. Both are great receivers. The Denon sounded better for movies while the Yamaha sounded better for music. At that point, I was leaning more towards the Denon. Well on my way out of the Yamaha showroom, I noticed the RX-V3000. It was on clearance for $1599 ($1010 US), price non-negotiable. I asked a salesman why it was so cheap and he said they were clearing out the RX-V3000 to make room for the RX-V3200 coming out in a couple months. About a month ago, I asked if buying the Yamaha RX-V3000 would be a waste if used with Quintets, and pretty much all of you said yes. Now that the 3000 is selling for cheap, I'm wondering if I should pick it up anyway. The 3000 doesn't have DPL II or DTS-ES like the 1200 or 2802, but it does have front effects and its build quality is much higher. And it's performance in both movies and music was better than the 2802 and 1200. I'm also upgrading to Reference speakers soon, and they will probably go well with the 3000. Im going nuts trying to decide what to get. What do you guys recommend? I can easily get the 2802 and 1200 for under $1150 ($730 US). But should I spend a little more and get the 3000? Walmart.com only sells the 1801. quote: Originally posted by DEAM: PS- DENON IS MADE IN KOREA!!! So, what's your point? Onkyo is made in Malaysia. IMO, the Denon 1802 and the Yamaha RX-V800 are the best ones you listed. The Denon has DPL II and the Yamaha doesn't. However, the Yamaha can do a matrixed rear center. I suggest you audition the receivers before you decide. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the receivers you mentioned. Both Denon and Yamaha are great quality.
  20. MagnumMan: You might want to check h/k's new line of receivers. They have all the features you mentioned. http://www.harmankardon.com

  22. If you can buy PAL Progressive Scan players, that most likely means you can watch your PAL DVDs in Progressive Scan. I think PAL TVs are only 50 Hz, meaning they would play at 50 fps. With NTSC you would get 60 fps.

I'm getting a little impatient about it. It's been too long since they release a new studio album, five years now. Lars also said the album is going to be heavier like the Black Album. This waiting is killing me. The release date went unknown ever since James entered rehab. But he's now that he's out, it should be soon. I've heard rumors of early 2002. I really hope they find a new bass player by that time. And maybe, just maybe they will tour Canada again. It will be nice if the new album is on DVD-A as well. I doubt it will be on SACD because the Black Album was just released on DVD-A. This message has been edited by oogins on 12-11-2001 at 11:01 PM
  24. That's quite a bit. My dealer offers the RF3's at $820 and the RF3II's at $995. Maybe you should take a little road trip down here to Calgary and get them. j/k I wouldn't drive 8 hours for a better deal on speakers. Can you haggle with your dealer or are the prices set in stone? 25. I asked this question a while back, and BobG replied that it's 150 watts.
