  1. Love my UMC-1. Then sound is out standing. Emo- q can be a little buggy, I set everything up manually with a SPL meter. Most big issues are related to cable and sat boxes. Using component video cables instead of HDMI works around most of the issues. New UMC firmware is due out very soon.
  2. My system is setup in the family living room. This room is not perfect (as most are not) for speaker placement. My question is about speaker toe-in. If I created a perfect triangle between my two front speakers (RF-63s) and any my chair, I would be setting in front of a door. Should I place more toe-in on one speaker than the other in order to to create a "sweet spot" at the right or left the the room? thx!
  3. Will we need to rebadge our speaker grills? It would be so cool if my large tower speakers had a Audiovox badge![:|]
  4. I have an XPA-5 with my RF-63s. They play well together! Great sound. The XPA-5 was a great upgrade.
  5. Might try Simply Speakers to have your driver repaired. http://www.simplyspeakers.com/
  6. Sounds very good with movies, sounds great with music. Im sure there are better subs to be had, but I dont have $$$$s to spend. Apples to apples I believe it will be hard to find a better sub for the money. Like I said in the earlier post, Im not a sub expert. However, I can tell you that my Ultra 12 blends nicely with my rf63s. I like my music to have just a touch of extra bass. Sometimes Ill unplug the sub just to see if its working, because it blends in so well. I have the sub cross over set to 55 for the fronts and 80 for the center and srounds. The best place to audition speakers and subs in your own home. Again with a 30 day trial, how can you go wrong? If you dont like it send it back.
  7. Ironsave, to bad you dont live closer. I have a tube of glue on my workbench you could have for FREE. The glue that was shipped in my refoam kit, smells and looks like model glue.
  8. No sure what plastic ring your refering to without seeing it. My woofer had thick cardboard ring glued over the surround. I used a razor blade and a small screw driver to cut/seperate the cardboard ring from the speaker. I was able to reuse the cardboard ring. s
  9. I have an Ultra 12 to replace my aging/ported ps-1200. Im not a sub expert, but it does sounds great and you cant beat the price. I should have bought two. I have a 20' x 25' great room with vaulted celings, the sub volume is set to less that 1/4 of max volume. $359 and free shipping and a 30 day trial, whats not to like? I was so impress by the sub, I bought a XPA-5 amp last week.
  10. I replaced a surround a few nonths ago. It wasnt hard, took about 4 hours including time for the glue to dry. Dont try to reuse your dust cap, buy a new one. There are several videos on youtube showing how to replace the surround.
  11. Yes, I am bi-amping. I have a 7.1 reciever that allows the fronts to be bi-amped if im only using 5.1. Dont know if I really buy into the whole bi-wiring thing. Sounds like spliting hairs to me.
  12. I currently have my front mains bi-amp with an Interga reciever. This week I bought an Emotiva XPA-5 and need some advice on speaker configuration. Should I run all 5 of my speakers off the new AMP or is it better (or even possible) to keep my front mains bi-amped and my srounds hooked to the reciever? If it is possible to keep my front mains bi-amped, how would I do this with an external reciever. Im guessing I would need some type of "Y" cable for the pre-outs, but I really have no idea. Thanks for any help.
  13. Ive just purchased an external AMP and now need some info on RCA cables. I know RCA cables can be purchased from .99 cents to hundreds of dollars, but what will work and sound good with an Integra / Emotiva setup? I have a box FULL of RCA cables that Ive collected over the years. I have the plain red/white RCA cables, component video RCA cables, Digital RCA cables and audio/composit RCA cables. I hate to buy more cables, will the above work and sound good? thx
  14. From what I read today, the Droid phones are starting to out sale the iPhones. Might want to checkout both phones.
  15. Im not a MJ fan, but watched the movie anyway. The sound track was great and really gave my rf-63s a work out!
  16. I have the exact same speakers using an Interga 30.1 receiver. Great setup, great sound!
  17. Has anyone here upgraded from the Free Pandora to Pandora One? I was just wondering if you can really here any difference in the sound quality.
  18. I just went though this last week. I bi-wired my new RF-62s. I didnt noticed much of a difference, sound great with or with out bi-wiring!
  19. I love my Mythtv. Mythtv holds all my music, photos and ripped DVDs/BLU-RAYs. Ive recently added a HDTV tunner and now its also a full featured dual tuner PVR. Mythtv will also play just about any format MP3,WMA,AVI,MP4,MVK,OGG,etc. Im now starting to regret ripping all my music to MP3s. I might spend a few weeks re-ripping to FLAC.
  20. I know Ill see a big difference in analog sound with a new sound card, but how about digital sound? I was under the impression digital was digital and any processing was done inside the reciever.
  21. Thanks for all the help. I will be ripping using FLAC and have a new sound card (Audiophile 2496) on order.
  22. Well Im not using a PC or MAC. Last year I built a Mythtv box to hold all my Vidoes, Music and Photos and everything was fine until last week until my wallet opened up at the audio store. With all the tips I recieved in the thread, Ive reseached FLAC and it looks like the direction I need to go. Using the FLAC codec with Linux I have lots of options for ripping to a Lossless format. Im glad you ask about my audio card. Im using the digital audio out (Tos-link) from the system motherboard. Are there high quality audio cards for digital out? If so what make the difference? thx
  23. Those of you that rip CDs, what format do you use for ripping that will sound JUST LIKE THE CD? Ive purchased a new reciever and speakers and I dont feel like im doing my new setup justice by playing mp3 files. In the past lve always ripped for file size / quality. Now, Im more interest in pure quality. thanks for any suggestions.
