  1. Sorry if the text appares bundled up its the browser Im using! SIGH I dont quiet fully grasp what it means dispersion pattern I have rough idea that if loudspeaker has horizontal 45º by 90º for the HF horns does this mean it spans out over nice wide area with equal tonal in the HF range so that listeners can hear it say 10 or 12 more rows off the centre-line in cinema or if using a cinema PA horn in the home. Also less refection of the highs bouncing off the ceiling and floor due to the tight 90º vertical angle? Also what about other loudspeakers for the home how can I suss out which loudspeaker I have that has (a so and so wide or narrow dispersion pattern)? Im running funky plastic JBL control 5 so I have no shame LOL for fronts and control 1 for surrounds. I dont know of the dispersion pattern they put out how wide or narrow it is? Or other loudspeakers in Klipsch brand range for home use, some nice 6.5 small bookshelf types RB41, 51, 61 and 81 II Cheers
  2. http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/gordon-bennett.htmlThanks for that one - I didn't know it. I think you are probably using a browser other than IE or Firefox. I wish that I had the solution for you. Are you using something like Opera or Safari? Maybe someone here will chime in to unlock the puzzle... Chris I'll try and type using the sites own text page (rather than copy pasting the text into the sites own system. Okay I'll type below this now... I guess the text on this line here as merged with the text above? I'm just using Google no Firefox just Google. None of the above that you mentioned just Google chrome. I noticed other members text is all jumbled up SIGH i guess they have the same issue, no matter I'll just type. LOL What day its been! Earthquakes that sucks! []
  3. Gordon Bennett! Why is the text all merging as one cluster text! SIGH Is there a text button of some sort on the site to correct this? Also a lot of films some might have left and right front so damn high in level it drowns out the centre mix and the centre doesnt just carry dialogue. It carries effects and music as well and taming the left and right with audio limiters is a bit tricky from what I tried. Also centre can get out of hand sometimes being so damn high it masks the left and right half pan sounds as some portions of the half pan is also in the centre mix unless its a hard pan 100% left or right. Some films tend to mix music to left and right and stereo surrounds while effects are carried in left right front centre and stereo surrounds and yes LFE.1. Im thinking of Broken Arrow (1996) the opening has score on left and right and stereo surrounds. Centre carries Foley effects and dialogue. DyanamicEQ has worked to some success with taming LCR on the nosiest of films like War of the Worlds (2005) when Tom Cruise runs from rear shop door out onto the street while the Tri-pod inflames the people and buildings to hard left and hard right! The centre carries mild effects of the explosions if memory recalls! Foley footsteps are heard and breathing/panting as hes running flat-out is clearly heard! It takes some fiddling to get the dynamicEQ to make the LCR flow smoothly without busting youre in ears in with stilly SPL db as over 90db for long periods will lead to some hearing loss over time! 85db is an acceptable level for mid to high range tones.
  4. You should listen to the AVR sending out the band limited narrow frequency (pink noise) the tone should be same when it arrives on centre front when it sounds and leaves left channel then passes lastly on right. Thats tonal matched. There might be some odd bumps and dips that can be handled by 1/3 octave EQ and 31 band RTA while outputting a stable wideband (pink noise) for each channel while making small cuts in the frequencies that are slightly peaking higher over the next band and the next loudspeaker. It might take hours or days to EQ it. Once its all set up listen to film that has duologue panning. Sadly not many films today use this technique you, might hear it on the odd film now and then over the course of year. Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom (this one used dialogue pans though most of the film) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (this film used a lot of hard to half-dialogue pans) Star Trek the motion picture (uses off-screen hard dialogue pans that then move to centre) Star Trek IV the voyage home (used dialogue sound like effects when the computer is questioning Spock, the voices move over LCR and sound effects have brilliant timber balance matching very complex Dolby film mix) My Fair Lady ( uses dialogue panning from hard left-right to half pans left-right or parts of the centre has the dialogue while another half is paned slightly to left or right) You need a good ear to spot this! The above is just a small portion! If you sent the LCRS into an audio mixer then route one channel out from the mixer into a single loudspeaker. Set the pan pots centred. Set up an SPL db metre and aim for soft level say, 70db play the AVR pink noise the and set the balance on the fader sliders on the mixer until all channels read the same SPL 70db. Then continue to listen! The pink noise sounds like a continuous pink noise sound!! Change any phase nothing will happen! Change the level of the EQ pots and yes one channel will stand out as being off by +/- 2db.
  5. I might start sprouting hairs and hollowing at the moon! [] I shouldnt be worried if the worse happens were powerless to anything about it.
  6. Then you have nothing to worry about then.[]
  7. Well play with CAUTION! at low volume level than you usually have it. Yes the dialogue might sound soft at times but trust me play softer level and when you get gut feeling of strong caution take it easy dont get carried away with the LFE.1 may or may not bust your sub in! I loaned to friend last night Ill pick it up later in the day and oh, no I know my friends Yamaha sub YST SW150 has issue with bottoming in the 40Hz to 50Hz range it bottomed out on STAR TREK when I took that around when Vulcan was consumed by a black hole! I always play new films titles at softer levels if it passes Ill play it many db higher next time around. If you're sub does't have low-pass filter get one! Or set the levels on the LFE.1 down many db the range goes well below 20Hz and at high level!

    TRON Legacy

Sure he'll say that I guess it has dazzling action sequence's and shorter running time as well. Avatar was yawn falling asleep. I would sooner watch Dances with Wolves for 181mins. I'm going to take a chance on Tron Legacy this April 18th when its released on bluray I hope its Dolby TrueHD 7.1 as it was mixed and released in cinemas in Dolby 7.1 not dts! But knowing Disney they might pull a fast one and stuff it with dtshd master audio 7.1 SIGH. Tron will also be released so I'll get the cheap box set don't want to pay for silly box that glows in the dark.

    Inception

I only watched it on bluray a few weeks ago for Oscar nominated best sound and sound effects editing at the time with Oscars only week away. Wow worst Dolby film I have listened to for 2010 it was mostly Hans Zimmer drowning the centre channel mix out and the centre has some interesting sounds if you know how to tame the left/right fronts. If anyone thinks its really the best Dolby film mix for 2010 you need to get a hearing check! Or pay full attention to to you're set-up! SIGH SALT was easily the best Dolby film I listened to a few days after the Oscars. Oscar needs to get its golden ears tested. I think Oscar was fixed this year. How can film be best sound when most of the time the centre is drowned out! Worst Hans Zimmer score in years. Yeah it has that oh, i wet myself ending on the end credits for about 2min the goes soft and quiet and thank goodness for that!
  10. I played it and I was tempted to see what Spectrum Lab sees from it. No I cant honestly say its something I would test my loudspeakers on I can see where youre coming from thou. Youre excited and think its the best drum and bass beat yet! Loud ones I just turn down or turn off altogether. Softer ones that are easy on the ear I might listen to might. You could try The Hurt Locker it might hurt youre subs I guess thats why its called The Hurt Locker it should be locked-up in vault! LOL its high end LEF.1!

    A Team

I might give it go on bluray I seem to trust youre instincts young Jedi. I cant help thinking Jedi master qui-gon jinn (Liam Neeson) as Hannibal Smith LOL got see it for this. What's the quality of the LCR is there any good use of dialogue panning along with Foley effects and sound effects? Do the stereo surrounds have good use of effects panning from LCR into surrounds and vice versa. I expect the LFE.1 to be what it is does it stretched down below 20Hz or is it mostly within 20Hz to 120Hz?
  12. Castaway Fight Club Gladiator The Haunting Hollow Man Mission to Mars The Perfect Storm Pitch Black Seven Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Terminator Terminator 2 - The Ultimate DVD Edition The World is Not Enough I have some of these titles on region2 DVD and nearly any decent Dolby digital mix will sound excellent with centre back surround its nothing more than a cinema hype that has died out years ago now. You no longer see the Dolby digital surround-EX logo on end credits unless its some of the back titles from the above list and most of the films didnt state Dolby digital surround-EX on the end credits.
  13. Yeah seams like the site cant post what copy and paste the text got all joined up! SIGH I tried to edit the post by spacing the text out but unless I typed using the sites own, no thanks I type faster in Microsoft word!
  14. So its not an issue that is what its called a 2.5 way crossover (passive) hmm
  15. Hello there I have friend that has B&W CC6 and I heard the same exact thing! One side of the two bass mid was producing more bass to mid, while other just produced bass. The matching of the tone with his B&W DM601 or 602 I cant remember which, the tone is holy mess! The left and right matched tonal sound is miles different and I stressed time and time again get matching fronts. As for the crossover issue it might well be internal of the manufactures design of the crossover? Personally I don’t like it makes my friends LCR sound dreadfully dull. When the pink noise moves from left to centre its just dull sound the highs sound like they have sock stuffed into the tweeter. When pink noise moves over to right, well you guessed it! The tone is match of the left! Matching equals performance! Mismatching equals rubbish performance! Myself I use matching bookshelf JBL control 5 across the fronts that have been modified so I can run Behringer DCX2496 on them with low bass mid going to (bass mid) and highs going to the (tweeter) been running it this way for 3 years now, no issues. Tone from the bass mid LCR is fairly close with spacing of the LCR they interact differently, so I have to compensate with the parametric EQ to get each one as near close with in few db in frequency as possible Same goes with the high end (tweeter). Each driver has its own amplifier its on audio limiter / dynamic EQ / delay setting / phase polarity / even the kitchen sink been thrown in as well! I have other JBL speakers that I can mix and mismatch up the centre, but why on Earth, would I want to do that, it’s a load of hassle to EQ.
  16. Well I apologise for the slander remakes during you're posting on LHF and on this site. I’m again sorry for the disruption but I have a very paranoid mind. Once again my humble apologises.
  17. Yes there is problem and I doubt he would be or his buddy who I sense near by? Well looks like they’d have to pick another site to prey on those who are not, bright or shape minded? I won’t buy anything off forum sites because this is one of the many possible places a scamming will try his little scam on and it’s quite long in the tooth, now. Since setting up an ebay account for myself, I have not one bit of interest because most I smell scammers. I’d sooner buy from a true established legit company that has been around for many years, not some faceless person. There are plenty of second-hand shops this person can take it too if he claims to be who he says he is? But I find it odd why you suddenly pop up! Let me guess you might be him, you just create a few accounts so you can gain the forums trust? When the thread gets heat after countless delays in posting pictures of the sale, a few start to doubt this is a legit person and just another sly scam? Tell me I’m right? You come on and suddenly say you’ve brought from him, please kindly prove me, wrong and provide proof, proof that hasn’t been manufactured for this little scam, because I’m not buying this for one second. Well if he wants a good home then why, doesn’t he, just keep it and the silly asking price.
  18. Eveing all I use separates on my AVR home cinema, the fronts are Alesis RA300 not sheer high powered but plenty enough for small room. The LCR are powered by DCX2496 then amplified the LCR LF and the sub LFE.1 gets its share of the same. Now its real easy to clip if you have insouciant frequency response within the seating locating. You’ll be striving for more power output in SPL db but running far short because your amp is seeing a good enough signal as it is. The room loudspeaker is different matter. Nulls are the worse offending dips you can have! The chances are you might have several where critical bass might be needed! And forcing the amp to play close to 0 is mindless because the loudspeakers might start going well over there technical tolerance level generating distortion or receiving an unstable signal the HF voice coil might burn out due to excessive harmful peaks. The mid range the same. The low range might start to show signs of bottoming with crackling like sounds. Also smaller loudspeakers with differences in the sensitivity may need more or less depending on sensitivity frequency response and how much I should allow plus the SPL db max level as mid and highs can cause for some brittle uncomfortable listening pleasure to trained ear This is sometimes common in some cinemas where frequency response may be great its just meet with too loud mix and most CD soundtracks or pop music is loud, you don’t need to advertise it to the neighbours living across the road! Least of all punishing your own hearing because “tinnitus” is no fun, it’s worse than clipping itself. Doesn’t matter how brilliant the loudspeakers are. If you have poor frequency response in the room and we all have this issue then don’t force it to be anything more. Get some test gear and run a few frequency sweeps of the room loudspeaker to listening location get an few EQ with parametric EQ make sure your sound system can play loud and well within safety limits. One thing would be to place the PEQ on the common left and right and second RTA that monitors the frequency response level at the seating location so you, have visual idea of what is happening at the listening location. Some mixes have different frequency range some limited down near to 30Hz others 40Hz rare few down blow 20Hz into the infrasonic range. Most common high peaks might be within 30Hz to 80Hz no telling where unless you have an RTA or spectrumlab is one such free tool I often use for direct and in-room frequency analyzing.
  19. Wow I’m wondering how many sock accounts this person made?[^o)] Wow you do you have real concrete solid poof to back up these words? Wow your last visit was Tuesday July 28th 2009 and you suddenly come on say he’s goodie, goodie? Wow I’m just stunned. Oh, I had feeling he was British, after he called the members on LHF Just not to any of you wankers! Since that is commonly used word in England and Australia.
  20. Eveing there I’m not comfortable around valve amps least of all ones for CB radios. I cringe when the thing starts glowing bright orange and the discolouring on the glasses. I was fearing the thing would explode and glass would shower everywhere. Well glad you’re aware it’s a dodgy valve amp because I don’t know sweet bugger all, about them. So did he deceive by lying about this in the text?
  21. Evening there russ Well it does seem fishy and I’m sure this site has had its fair share of sly trolls looking for an easy simple person to prey on. This chum isn’t fooling me. If I had I something to sale I’d make sure I have pictures to post on the same day and that price isn't as high and also spend a bit more time, around the site participating with other forum members. He’s the typical one that posts then as we say here in England, “buggers off” for a few days. Wow doesn’t seem that interested does he?
  22. Good afternoon/evening all. I have been keeping an eye on this so called person who claims to have a legitimate sale, and with such distrust by others including myself, on the Lansing Heritage Forums, with his sly little possible scam. Well he has waved his rights goodbye by verbal insult the forum [:@]and you can read his little escapade here. http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=278724#post278724 As well as here http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=278725#post278725
