  1. Well thats good to hear. I guess I could do some REW measurements for distortion but thats a while from now. Is there a device for measuring excursion in a cabinet?
  2. Well they look amazing. I will have to build these someday. I have always been a bit of a bass head although I do like sound quality, I love to feel the music. I have the Kunzel Telarc recording of the 1812 overture with live canon blasts. And although the Jamboree doesn't go as low as the canon blasts do I was hoping that you would get the feeling you were right next to the canons when they played. I will have to see what you think of the Jamborees and see if you think they do the canon sound justice. I figured four 15's is alot of energy and in a horn that should really have a blast. But I will wait to hear your opinion. What did you use for powering the Jamboree and the horn?
  3. Nobody has answered this yet and I have asked a few times but do you need to put a Hpass on the bass bin to not exceed xmax? I just want to make sure that by adding the port section I wont make the woofer move so much it hits xmax.
  4. WOW......I have the Jamboree plans and wont be building them yet. I just dont have the room for them in my living room.[]yet. But its great to see someone else building these so I can learn what to expect. Greg from Volti makes evereything look so easy. I am very much the amatuer so I like seeing others builds to help me. What is a Kreg jig or whatever it is called? And was the tenun jig hard to make? I have never used one so I wouldn't have a clue.
  5. For some reason I am not getting updates on this thread. Anyways. Thanks everyone for the info so far. And yes I will be building my own La Scalla's. The 1977 drawings are what I will be going by. I will probably add the ported bottom to the La Scallas also. That being said even if I didn't add the slot port I would have built something to raise the La Scallas about the same height as the addition. As you can see in the pic my right LS bin will be going right in the corner where the THT Lp is now. So I am sure there will be plenty of room gain due to the position. And when I raise the LS bin I can then be able to place whatever horn I would want in the future on top and not interfere with the sub next to it.
  6. How high of a sanding needs to be done before staininf or finish?
  7. Now you all have me thinking of finishing my sub the same way. Although I have never used an Automotive paint. I have a sonotube sealed sub I am building and would like to atleast have that gorgeous looking silk black(piano finish) on the MDF pieces. I just recently sprayed them with some flat black paint because I got tired of looking at the MDF color. Although I have only done one of the 2. I was at the local store here and they had fiberglass resin compound that I thought would be good for the sides. Anyways I'll shut up now. this isn't my thread but now I have alot of questions for Dale and others. How do you prep the MDF for the first coat of ....???........primer I guess? I have never done something like this so please explain if anyone can or pm me. Thanks and sorry to ask so many questions on someone else's thread.
  8. Lowest note on my Bass guitar was a 15.4hz B00. But who cares I remember listening to Enya on some older Klipsch RF-7 or something, then we added the Paradigm servo 15. WOW what a difference. Defintely need the sub. That being said I will still hope to add this mod to my La Scallas so that I can play some music without the sub. But it seems that integration is the key anyways. Get that dialed in and you would never know the sub was there until you turned the sub off.
  9. Dont want to be to nosey but how much did the whole crossover parts cost you in the end with out the box?
  10. Amazing how a build thread turns dismall. I was looking forward to see the build come alive. But it happens on to many forums that it just turns into an arguement.
  11. Thanks VT. I have no info on the GPA are true listening time so nice to hear someone has some info. I have always thought that you needed a 2" to go as low as 250hz-800hz. But right now it seems for the money these Faital CDs might be one of the best values for money.
  12. Thanks for all the helpful info Cask05. My room is only 13.5ft across so I will have to wait on another room for the Jubilees. Although they are tempting but the ported La Scallas look like the answer. Thanks Bruce I would build the bass bin by itself and then just add whatever top. I dont know about the 510 for the top horn mainly because of money. 510 at close to 1500 for the pair then probably around 200 atleast for shipping. Then there are the big 402's which I will save for the far future but the shipping will likely be around 4-500 or more dollars just because of the size. Thats the main reason I mentioned the VoltiFc280's. I am sure the cornwalls are awesome but I the La Scalla to me is amazing looking. PLUS with my children(always wanting to poke everything) the La Scalla bass bins wont be harmed. I would probably just use a Behringer 2496 or other with the tube mod. Maybe build some Tclass amps or tube amps. But like I was saying with the La Scalla bass bin slot ported and the subs next to them they will fit in the current location of my other speakers. And because of the height addition of the La Scalla porting I could get a 402 in the far future and just slighlty angle them. Now I thought someone said to high pass the La Scalla bin also but dont remember. I would just use the cast frame 15's from Cites because they are personally the best for the money. But when porting and changing the design I dont want to exceed xmax on these so is it still recommended to hpass or no? This is my room. And that large black thing is the THT Lp. It is 24.5"w x 72"h x 18"d Sounds awesome but will be replaced. In that space there will a La Scalla bass bin and the sub next to it where the speaker is. Pay no attention to the couches because I always move them when listening to movies and sometimes music.Oh and as you can see I dont have great corners because the left cornerhas a window that is within 5" of the wall. Whos site is the myjubs? Coytees The build reminded me of the Jamboree plans. I didn't know anyone had the Jubilee plans either. ALthough both are to big for my room I will someday build some.
  13. What abot the 902 or 909 series Great Plains Ausdio CDs? I still think for the money these Faital Pros are amazing though. The Great Plains is just one of the few that goes pretty low in a 1".
  14. Did you ever get the badges on? And if so did you get any pics to share?
  15. I thought the Jubilees wouldn't need a sub. Do they have 12's or 15's? Ah yes I saved your pic while looking at another thread. And you have the Spuds I see. I as of now have the THT Lp, but because of the size will have another sealed sub in the next weeks to replace it. But I also just have some "get me by," speakers for now until I can build a Lascalla bass bin then a whatever for the top.(Fc280 Volti horn then maybe a Klipsch 402) I will never be able to afford some Jubilees(although I dont know how much they retail for either) I figured I would just have to build my speakers for now. I have seen a few 1974 plans floating around that I think I might have to try and build. DO the Jubilees take up more room width wise then the La Scalla's? I know they are angled on a wall so I didn't know if with the angle they are still wider than 24"? Just curious but as of now I will be trying to just build the La Scallas and drool over others bigger Klipsch designs. I thought of doing a Cornscalla but really do love the look of the horned bass bins by Klipsch.
  16. For those who have Jubes for bass bins do you guys use subs? I will always have a sub because know bass bin goes low enough for my home theater listening. I will probably build the La Scalla bass bin and then place a Klipsch horn on top. This will be awhile form now so I dont know if I could get the 402 or the 510. I just know that if I am going to wait that long I might as well get the 402. Now I will have subs in my small living room and I am wanting to just make sure that a La Scalla bass bin would be near the same height as my sub so how tall is just the bass bin? If they are the same height I imagine I could squeeze a 402 in but I am just dreaming about the top for now. How deep is the 402? When listening to music without a sub can the La Scalla bass bin hold its own? And would I need to Hpass the bass bin or not? Lastly has anyone ever use a Mini dsp on any of the Jubescallas? Sorry And has anyone used a behringer amp on one? I had a Xti1000 amp 2 years ago and it kept having a high pitch wine I could hear on my Accugroove cabinet during quiet parts. SO I thought I would use another amp and maybe a Mini dsp or DC one or see what has been used and works.
  17. Yes I was wanting to be sitting around10ft away because I was going to be eventually putting in a 9ft wide screen for our living room. I will have to check out the Jubescalla. I have plans for the Dana Jamborees but they our a bit big I think for my room. Although I do like a wall of sound I would like to distinguish Left from Right during movies. How wide is your room Coytee? And what would you suggest for tops? I have seen the 510 and 402 from one of the older posts that I have read before. I think the only reason I didn't try and build the La Scala bass bin was because the drawing I got was sort of vague and not descriptive enough.
  18. I am having the dilema about which heritage speaker to build. I have chatted with Greg Roberts and it lookslike the Jamboree bass bins would be ok but the imaging would be difficult and I would need to be around 6-7 feet away from them. I would like to be closer to 10ft away from them if I can. I have always loved the Klipsch heritage speakers and always wanted to build some but now I am stuck with a small room. The speakers will be going on the 13.5ft wall so I dont know if I could use something else that would sound better at imaging or what. Now I could build an Ewave as that might be the easier option but I am just wondering about Klipsch series stuff. The heritage speaker would be placed very close to the outside walls also. In other words placed as far apart as I can go. The subs would be in the middle sort of. Now when I listen to music I tend to turn the sub off because I like the effortless sound I get out of my line arrays I have now. Now I cant listen to anything with much bass but with classical, acoustic and other soft genre music they can play loud enough. But these speakers are just to hold me off until I can build some Klipsch heritage speakers. So if anyone could help lead me the way for Klipsch horn bliss I would appreciate it. PLUS I wont have to keep bothering Greg so much. I would rather just keep viewing his amazing looking horns instead of keeping him away from building them. Maybe some MWM would be ok. LOL J/K Although Richards look awesome.
  19. Thanks Don. Thats what I was trying to undertsand. I new that vertical stacking wasn't going to matter as much in a horn as a direct radiating setup. I will have to keep looking but can you explain more on what would a desired lobe angle be of a given set system say the top of a Khorn? I understand the time aligning as that to me seems to be most important when using different horn lengths for sound reproduction. I just have to learn more about the fine tuning of different horns placed together to accurately recreate recorded or live sound as it should be in a given room. I wouldn't know the correct questions to even ask, as where to start, but these answers have helped me answer some of the more common questions I have.
  20. Yes this helps. Thanks But the other question I was trying to figure out is what are the exceptable parameters for CTC distance? And where do you measure the center at when using a horn such as the KH?
  21. about center to center (CtC), acoustical center and vertical polars? I could just ask Zilch(PE forum) but I want to try and learn some of this stuff and I dont think I should burden him with every question. He does enough already. I was learning about the E-waves and learning more about the CtC spacing and acoustical center importance. I asked Zilch where do you measure Ctc from when trying to figure out the KH bass bin and mid horn. KH is crossed much lower, so there's more leeway. Hard to know without measuring what the vertical polar might look like, as the midrange from the woofer is "distributed." Gotta be nulls there somewhere, tho.... Thats what Zilch said and instead of just asking him everything I figured I would ask everyone else so I can try and figure out how to measure for myself all the needed parameters I would need. I am not building any KH bass bins any time soon I am just trying to understand the science of everything Zilch has been doing but on a different speaker. I have a few "Klipsch-esque," plans I have aquired and in a few years I will build them but for now I am just trying to learn. Thanks for any help.
  22. Get enough IB subs and you could do anything the Rotary sub could do for less money but your neighborhood might all fall apart.......hahahaha
  23. My subs wont be doing -.5 hz or anything like that. And definitely not able to be flat to 2hz like the rotary sub can. Some tests had been done where they where sending 5hz signals to the sub which is housed on a Uhaul truck and had microphones 4km away. They had significant content registering on the mikes but of coarse they also had some interference noises also. BUT thats still pretty impresive with a sub as small as the rotary sub. Only thing I can think of that impressed me more was rhe Danley sub that was built into a semi trailer half crate.
