  1. Cruzer, I don't have the 3300 but with my 4800, I would do it as follows: 1. Connect all your processing gear into the route selector. 2. Plug the route selector into the 3300 (Tape-2 Mon). This way, you can monitor the 400x whenever you want, and control what's on or off from the selector... Mike This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 09-13-2001 at 06:51 AM

  4. I've got nothing but positive things to say about SVS, and that goes for Tom and Ron as well. Before buying my SVS 20-39CS w/Samson S700, I must have sent 30 Emails to these guys and every one of them were answered the same day. Try that with another Sub company (Klipsch included). The other thing I liked about these guys is they didn't put any other Subs down. They talked about the strengths of each Sub (as well as their weaknesses) when comparing them to their own. Tom has to be one of the most knowledgable Sub people on the planet! He knew exactly what would work for me based on room dimensions, other equipment, speaker placement, etc. Send them an Email. You won't be disappointed... 5. Q-Man, Well said! I find myself listening to music around the 90-100db area. When I listen to music, I want to hear everything. My girlfriend and my sister just can't understand this. BTW, when I feel it's getting a bit too loud, I just whip out my handy Rat Shack SPL meter to keep things in check. 6. Cruzer, Thanks, I love them! I'm also happy with the C-7 for the moment. BTW, I was stationed at Hessisch Oldendorf from 78-82 during my AF days. The good-ole-609th. I had a great time over there...spent a lot of time up in Denmark and Amsterdam. Mike
  7. Will do, Colin! I'll be in Ft Pierce on the 5th and 6th of October (not sure how far that is from West Palm). It would sure be nice if I can meet some of the members from this area (within a 2 hour driving distance) so I can check out their systems. I still have a lot to learn about this new passion of mine and I think that's one of the best ways to do it... Mike Edit: BTW, love your Sig! 8. I LOVE THEM!!!! I drove down to Stuart, FL (about 2 hours away) with my girlfriend to get them and it rained all the way back. But even that wasn't enough to dampen my spirits (btw, the speakers were inside the SUV). When we got 'em home, I disconnected the CF-2's and hooked them up. I put in one of my favorite demo CD's - Al Dimeola's "Splendido Hotel", Track 9 (Spanish Eyes). This is a digitally remasterd recording from the original analog tapes and is a fantastic recording. All I can say is "WOW!" I turned off my sub and could not believe how much fuller these speakers were. Much more "punch" and "depth" on the low end, having the extra horn with the crossover at 650 made the mids just jump right out at you (the CF-2's have one horn with the crossover at 2200). To say the least I was thouroughly impressed. We played some other CD's just to make sure it wasn't luck at first listen and they all sounded fantastic! I believe they were made in 1989 as both networks inside had the date of April 11, 1989 stamped on them. The serial numbers are 8929312 and 8929313. Anyway, just wanted to share my enthusiasm with you all, and can't wait to get a pair of Forte's for the rear. Also looking for an Academy at a "reasonable" price. I hope to get some pictures up in a day or two so that I can share them with you... 9. Thanks alot for all the responses. After talking with Doug, I think I will hang onto my C-7 until I get my hands on a cheap Academy. I can't use the Forte as a Center since I don't have the space above my TV. Anybody know where I can get an Academy for a discount? I've got a coupon. Mike
  10. I just bought a pair of Chorus speakers and will be picking them up on Sunday. I'm currently using some Epic CF-2's that I bought new in '95 with the KLF-C7 Center. If I like the Chorus more, I will sell the CF-2's and C-7 and replace with the correct Center. Unfortunately, on the Classic page, it doesn't mention the Center that belongs with this speaker. I know Doug Drake is using the KV-3 with his (I think). Does anybody know if the C-7 will match up with this speaker? I know the sensitivity is pretty close (101/99). Thanks in advance... 16. Flynn, I bought my Dual CS-721 in 1978 as well (Hessisch Oldendorf, Germany) and have had many wonderful years with it. Just recently however, I decided to upgrade it. I just bought a Dual CS-5000 from Ebay with a Shure V15V-MR cartridge on it. I absolutely love it! 17. George, That's how I felt as well. Nothing against the 30's (wish I had a pair), I just felt the RF-7's were more to my liking... Mike
  18. Bac, Nice post yourself! I agree with the direct source to TV route but was thinking in the long run, when he gets Cable or Sattelite w/HDTV capability, he can just do the component switching from the Receiver. I didn't know I could run an S-Video cable from the DVD to the Rcvr as well. I hate the fact that I lost my OSD because of the component cable. But, without question, my picture is better because of it. Mike
  19. Jeremy, I think you will have to do the following: Video ----- Coaxial from Wall to VCR In VCR S-Video Out to S-Video In on Rcvr (VCR-1) DVD Component Out to Rcvr Component In (DVD) Rcvr Monitor Out (Component) to TV Component In (DVD) Rcvr Monitor-1 Out (S-Video) to TV S-Video In Audio ----- VCR Audio Out to Analog Audio In on Rcvr (VCR-1) Rcvr Audio Out (VCR-1) to TV Audio In DVD Digital Audio Out (Coax or Optical) to Rcvr In (same) When watching TV or VCR, you will need to Monitor VCR-1 on your Receiver (you will also need to program or tune your channels on the VCR) and set the correct Video on your TV (I use Video 1 for Cable and Video 4 for DVD). When watching DVD you will need to set the Receiver to DVD and then set the TV to the correct Video source (you will also have to assign the Digital Input on your receiver to where you plugged it in to the back (Optical 1-5 or Digital 1-3). I hope this helps, Mike Edit: As for the speakers, set them all to Small and if you have an adjustable crossover on the 3802 (wish I did), set it the lowest setting (50 hz?). If there is no setting within the receiver it's probably set to 80 hz. ------------------ Family Room ----------- Hitachi 43UWX10B HDTV (16:9) Denon AVR-4800 Panasonic DVD-RP91K (Progressive Scan & DVD-Audio) Dual CS-5000 Turntable w/Shure V15V-MR DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Epic CF-2's (mains) Klipsch KLF-C7 (center) Klipsch RS-3's (surrounds) SVS 20-39CS Sub w/Samson S700 Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 Digital Cable box Monster M-500 Component Video cables Monster Datalink 100 Digital Coaxial cables Radio Shack Gold Series for all other audio interconnects Bedroom ------- Mitsubishi 31" TV Yamaha M-4 Amp Yamaha C-4 Preamp Yamaha T-7 Tuner Teac DVD Player Dual CS-721 Turntable w/B&O MMC2 Looking for a pair of Heresy's This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 09-05-2001 at 12:49 PM
  20. I was out on audioreview.com reading the feddback on the KLF-30's when I came upon this: Strengths: Overall, the sound is good at lower levels. Weaknesses: Harsh sound when using higher sound levels, like for movies. Similar Products Used: Bose 701, Klipsch KSP-S6, Boston VR 975. Price Paid: $1575 Purchased At: Local A/V dealer Review Summary: I bought three sets of speakers: Bose 701 ($849.00, Best Buy), Klipsch KLF 30 Towers ($1575.00 local), and the Boston VR 975 ($1550.00 local). For the rear, I bought a pair of Bose Double Cube Speakers (red line, new, off e-bay, $215.00) and the Klipsch KSP-S6 surrounds ($500.00 local dealer). I decided to try each with my system: Pioneer Elite VSX-26TX, Pioneer DV626D (DVD-CD), Boston VR-12 center channel, and the Pioneer SW-200 subwoofer. I tried each with every possible pairing of the speakers both with and without the separate subwoofer. Without question, the best sounds for DVDs and CD's were from the Bose 701 speakers and the Bose Double Cube speakers in the rear. Since I had all of these products I ask some of my friends to listen. Many of my friends are audiophiles. They, like many people who write on this forum, hate Bose. I wanted their option, but I didnt want it biased by product lines. So, we did blind tests (i.e., each could not see what speakers were playing and rated the combinations for me). I had five of my friends do this and we had so much fun that each brought five additional people to do the sound test. The movies used were U-571 and Matrix. CDs were Creed, Cher, and Classical Hits, 2000, Varity Bach. The receiver was set on large speakers for front, large for center, and small for rear-Bose, small and large for Klipsch, and cutoff at 80 Hz for the subwoofer. The winning combination, using my receiver, DVD/CD player, subwoofer, and center speaker, was the Bose 701 with the Bose cube speakers. 23 out of 25 people picked the Bose combination. 25 out of 25 picked the Bose double cubes for the rear. Isnt that something? When people couldnt see what speakers were playing, mostly all picked Bose. People swore they were picking either the Bostons or the Klipschs, depending on what they thought was the best product, and in most cases, the Bose 701 with the Bose Double Cubes were picked. The other surprising result was that the Pioneer SW-200 was picked easy over the Bostons with the built in subwoofers given every possible combination. The pioneer was picked as cleaner and deeper bass. This was a fun weekend for all of us. However, in the end, I took the Bostons and Klipschs back. I got in writing that each were returnable before I did this (the Bose Double Cubes were going in the den if I didnt like them as the rear speakers). It appears that a better manner to determine what speakers you actually like and do not like is to make sure you cant see what speakers are being used. Your ears and not your eyes judge. I do love the sound I get from the 701s. The Double Cubes in the rear are awesome. With the subwoofer, the bass is super clear (but it is good without too), the highs are clean and not annoying (the Klipsch were harsh), and the middle was pleasant. You cant go wrong with these speakers and they dont cost an arm and a leg to own them (they sell for around $535.00 average on E-Bay or $850.00 new). The sound is so good youll turn them on just to listen to them. This was a fun experiment and my buddies, and their friends, still cant believe they picked Bose. I had fun and am very happy with my system. Get the Bose 701s, they hold up to speakers costing twice as much. Suffice it to say, this guy gave the KLF-30's a 1 star rating. I think I'm gonna rush right out and pick me up some 701's... ------------------ Family Room ----------- Hitachi 43UWX10B HDTV (16:9) Denon AVR-4800 Panasonic DVD-RP91K (Progressive Scan & DVD-Audio) Dual CS-5000 Turntable w/Shure V15V-MR DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Epic CF-2's (mains) Klipsch KLF-C7 (center) Klipsch RS-3's (surrounds) SVS 20-39CS Sub w/Samson S700 Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 Digital Cable box Monster M-500 Component Video cables Monster Datalink 100 Digital Coaxial cables Radio Shack Gold Series for all other audio interconnects Bedroom ------- Mitsubishi 31" TV Yamaha M-4 Amp Yamaha C-4 Preamp Yamaha T-7 Tuner Teac DVD Player Dual CS-721 Turntable w/B&O MMC2 Looking for a pair of Heresy's

  22. Mike, I have my fronts set at -4 each and my surrounds at -3. My Sub however, is set at -8. I usually play movies around -5 to -7 on the volume meter. I used the Video Essentials DVD w/the Radio Shack SPL meter to dial mine in and it uses 75 db as the reference for pink noise versus the 85 db from the Avia DVD. You gotta love these Klipsch speakers for efficiency. Mike
  23. Mike, I am referring to the upper-bass/lower-mid punch. The 30's just jump right out at ya! I don't think you can go wrong with either speaker but in my opinion, I felt the RF-7 was the better sounding speaker for 2-channel music. I like jazz and female folk rock, and for me, felt the RF-7 sounded better when listening to that kind of music. Look up the dealer locator on this board and find a dealer in your area, and go listen to some. Hopefully, they will have both there so you can do a comparison... Mike
  24. Mike, I did a minor side-by-side in the local Sound Advice just last weekend. I was playing the Diana Krall "Love Scenes" DVD in DTS on a Denon 4800 (that's what I have at home). My main goal was to see how both of these speakers sounded in relation to my CF-2's. Bear in mind I am not a music critic but here goes anyway. The KLF-30's seemed a bit brighter and much more in-your-face (slam factor) than the RF-7's. The RF-7's were warmer and had a tighter bass than the 30's. Soundstage and imaging went to the RF-7's as well. Both of them had Diana's voice right in the middle as if she was coming out of the wall. I think for 2-channel music, I would prefer the RF-7's over the 30's. For HT it would be a tossup. As for my speakers, I think they are a happy medium between the two. Again, this is just MHO. 25. myram, That's great! I'm curious how you're running the 5200? Are you using it for your mains or rear surrounds? If it is for the mains, how does 2-channel sound versus the 4800?
