  1. Windows XP, hmmmm..... Windows XP has cookies or some sh*t that doesn't allow you to use unregistered Software or Pirated software. That little money-mongering bad haircut motherf***er Bill Gates can Kiss my *** on that Software. Sorry if I couldn't help ya, the Pro-media boards are down below.
  2. Good! Maybe you turned him on to Klipsch. What people will say to sell something, sheesh!
  3. Thanks for the Pointers. MD. Ya know the more I read up on vintage tube amp owners, and the folks who buy them on Ebay and stuff, the more I notice that there is some major risk factor involved. (I don't know about Audiogon, although.) These guys will tell you the Tubes are fine, but when the purchaser gets the amp, the Tubes are dead or on they're way. Not to mention dried caps, resistors out of tolerance, and shorted out trannys, (That's a biggie.) Now a transformer is a passive device, it shouldn't pump off heat unless it's shorted out, Right? Maybe if the tranny is parked near other heat sources, Tubes, I can understand. Then it is almost mandatory to have a Variac, nice option when your firing up a vintage amp that your not certain about, to avoid Fireworks. A multi-meter is Mandatory, I have a Table-top Fluke 8050a I swapped for a Yamaha integrated. Nothin' special, but I sure get a lot of use out of it, with all the tweeks and playing around I do. So the way I look at it is, If I happen to find a vintage tube amp for nothing in the trash, or for ten or twenty bucks, or if it is just a screaming deal at a estate sale or something, then I am not even going there. I would rather buy a new Tube kit, one thing, it's new! No worn out trannys or parts. And the way these vintage prices are going, you would be into a new amp for about the same price or a little more than a old vintage unit, after replacing bad parts and tubes on the vintage. Yes, some vintage has superior parts, but your purchasing at the risk of those parts being defective. Others may disagree, but that is my opinion at the moment. THANX!
  4. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1333187277 Eico HF-81 and HFT-90 tuner. With some speakers, just went on the Auction Block. The Tuner and Amp are in some ungodly looking box/Cabinet. I can't even afford to bid on the damn stuff, I'm too broke at this time to even try. Maybe someone here in the BB can snarf them. Good Luck! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-16-2002 at 05:14 AM
  5. Have any of you folks have found any sort of Warner Bros Looney Toons on DVD? I mean the good violent un-cut ones from about the early Forties to the late Fifties. Not the cheesy stupid ones from the sixties, or the Dorky simple humor ones from the thirties,(Maybe the late 30's.) If there is Looney Toons fans out there, you know what I'm talking about. I may be strange, but this is the one of the major things I want for DVD. THANX!
  6. Hell, he didn't know we used it. This was about 1983, BTW, young, dumb and drunk. Nowdays when we go shooting, We use common sense, it's not like a bad scene from 'Deliverance'. I won't see that gun in any sort of will, it probably hasn't been used since then. This guy's tighter than a Nuns C***, it's well taken care of. I need to get a weapons permit while I still can, No Felonies, that kinda helps.
  7. If a pair of Eico 60 watt monoblocks on some High-efficiency Loudspeakers can't get someone up and Moshin' to they're favorite headbangin' Sh*t, Then I geuss it's a lost cause. These guys look like industrial strength metal. I haven't read one bad thing about EICOs, except maybe newer ones? Nice Amps. I wonder what these will net on Fleabay? You haven't seen Mega-Ongaku, and Retro Woman? THANX!
  8. It's the 'Standard Model'. It's the ol' man's gun, he 'ain't partin' with it. We used to weasel it out and play with it, shoots pretty damn straight at reasonable distances, kinda sucks when your goin' for Mocking Squirrels in the 12 ft range. (we were pretty drunk that day.)
  9. http://www.triodeel.com/ongaku.htm It's a test set for two million watt transmitter tubes. 17,000 volts on the Anode on that tube. I don't know if they have kits yet. Sorry about that, I tried to post the link, but between this PC's stack dumps and brain death, I couldn't post it. My apologies. This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-15-2002 at 07:51 PM
  10. OOPS!Luger, DUH! Your right, Tom. This one has the Red Dragon on the grip, instead of Black if that matters. Is there a link between Hillary Clinton and Turntables?
  11. The Ella with the upgraded volume control, Audio Note caps, and the mac daddy Tube package, which I think are valve art input tubes, with the KT-100 output tubes which give the Ella more power. Without shipping, is about $833. The KT-100's are not valve art? My knowledge on various tubes types, and the good NOS tubes is pretty Limited. (And where to find them? YEHAW.) I know a pair of 1938 Western Electric 300B's are worth big bucks, that isn't hard to figure out. (Gotta read up!) Like Mobile said, be patient. He can Review the amp, give his input and what tubes that he would think would good for the budget minded, and maybe some good NOS recs as well. If DIYcable possibly carries the Cosonance amplifiers, like I think MH mentioned, that may save some money in shipping fees. I have until summer, by then there could be a whole different ball player on the feild.(for me, maybe.) THANX! Ken, Transmitter Tubes are still used today for radio stations. These Tubes are in the Megavolt range, Transistors would melt. Check out the Mega-Onganku on the Triode Electronics online page, tons of brain food on that site. THANX! 12. Yes Keith, I am proud to say that I am a Carpet Muncher! I'm guessing Holsten is a Dyke as well, let's hope so. The Lady is totally cool, I could give a sh*t about her sexual preference. (I guess I'm trying to point out that there is women into audio.) I like those little Ruger Pistols, the Stepoldman has a old WW2 one. My buddie has a Long barrel 357 mag,(Noisy Bastard) and a whole slew of russian rifles, another buddie has a 45. It's fun to go north and shoot'em up! Next on Ricci Lake: The common link between Lesbians and Turntables, Fact or Fiction?
  13. Yes, Tubes are assembled. It would be a real ***** to assemble your own tubes. Might require a move to Russia or China. I'm sorry I may have misread that. Those tube kits mentioned are simple to put together. Most of them have detailed pics or drawings of how to put the kit together, you don't have to be all knowing of tube design. It's good to know how to read a schematic, but not absolutely necessary. You will need a Voltmeter for testing the circuits. Get a soldering iron, and practice thrashing on some junk electronics from a thrift 'AS IS' store or something. When you can solder in your sleep, then you will be ready, you can master soldering in a hour. Read up on the subjects! THANX!
  14. Whatever! This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-15-2002 at 04:47 PM
  15. Ken, I eventually want to go the Tube route too. I'm as curious as everone else, MH is pretty good at pumpin' everybody up, Hell, It seems like he has listened to everything under the sun, he gives good sensible advice with a good sense of humor. Like Tom mentioned, Horns will do fine with Solid State or Tubes. If your really interested in thermionic devices, hit them Keywords and search engines. Tons and Tons of information on the net. The Internet is one big reason why Tubes have picked up in popularity, some good reasons, some bad for vintage hunters. Hit the AA board Archives, there is Tons and Tons of information there as well. Read up about them, understand the various tube designs and the amplifier designs. Take your time, I've been interested in Tube amps for two years, Mobile Homeless isn't the only one that has sparked my interest, It's been from reading audio forums and sites for all this time. I'm still trying to figure this all out. Take your time. In the end, you will be happy. THANX!
  16. This may seem pathetic, but did John Coltrane play guitar? I read these threads and wonder what the world would be like without Les Paul/Gibson or Leo Fender. Would Les Paul and Mary Ford be Rock? or Rockabilly? The old school country interests me for some strange reason, Patsy Kline, Hank Williams. They seem to poor their hearts out in their music. I guess there is artists still doing this, but there is a lot of the typical commercialization in todays music. Off topic.
  17. The first audio geek I ever met was a chick, when I was in 5th grade, 1975? She was a Turntable nut. She eventually turned into a Lesbian, but that's kinda beside the point, she was into audio before coming out of the closet. Extremely cool person, IMHO, I went to my first concert with her and my stepbrother, Foghat. Audio is kind of a boy's toys kind of thing, like muscle cars, you know the old term, 'The one with the biggest toys wins'. This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-15-2002 at 02:48 AM
  18. Sounds like your Dad just gave you the first major piece of your first home system. Try to find a new amp in that Catagory, Good luck. (Hint:Spendy!) Keep that amp, you won't go wrong. Just don't hook 500 speakers up to it, respect it's load capability. Pull the cover and blow that thing out with some compressed air, it could be dusty inside the unit. A happy circuit is a dirt free one. You can use those speakers, but that amp probably can roach those poor speakers, but you will be fine, if you just respect the speaker's capabilities and don't push them. Now all you have to do is save some money and get a pair of good used Klipsch speakers, (Classic, Heritage, huh?) Look how many posters asked you if you want to get rid of that Marantz, that's gotta tell ya somethin'. Keep it, that amp lasted 30 years, it has plenty of time for you to find some speakers for it. You'll be the Klipsch King Justin, just be patient and take your sweet time. Good Luck!
  19. Dan, I just finally got my NAD 2100 that Theears loves so much going with a recapped Audio Control Bass EQ. I have a pair of 16/46's series wired to this pretty mediocre amp that is bridged. HornED is right, I live in a 60ft Trailerhouse, and the low frequencies rip through this entire trailer and most the adjoining trailers nearby. Carpet? my problem is vibrating paneling. Fortunately, this trailer park is full of college kids, and it is usually a Trailercourt sound-off anyway. They will be long lost when I get the proper power amp for these subs This is about 8:30 on the dial, and I'm doing it with about 100 watts or a little more on this Non Audiophile Device. This is with 2 live crew, don't ask me why in the hell I am listening to this. THANX!
  20. Black Gates would be a nice choice, but then you might as well turn on the amp and forget about it for a few months, with that lengthy break-in they have. (The Nichicon Super-throughs or a FG equilevent would be a good budget choice, shorter break-in too.) I think I remember M.Percy telling me in a Email that you can sub a superior cap of lower Capacitance and higher voltage. (I'm not sure on Voltage, but you only limited to size on voltage, and I'm sure you stay away from lower voltages.) One good to know, is where the designer/designers made comprimises on the amp design and improve from there. They must change to HEXFREDS on the rectifiers or something. Barista Bill, You might want to go down to the General question Forum. A lot of folks including me, seemed to agree that 'Justice for all' was the worst Metallica recording ever. I never heard that CD in years and never on my Chorus II's, but my days of car stereo and cobbled junk home stereos that recording always seemed to have that WOMP WOMP overbloated midbass frequency. I ever find it in a Hock shop, I'll pick it up and see what the Chorus's have to say about it, I don't listen to much Metallica anymore. Dave Lombardo fan, Huh? I have Grip Inc. 'Power of inner strength' It's allright, I wonder if Solidify is better. I haven't heard it awhile, I geuss it's next. Have you checked out 'Fantomas' It's Dave Lombardo, King Buzzo from the Melvins, some dude that escapes me for the moment on bass, and Mike Patton that wierd bastard from Faith no More and Mr Bungle. It's basically background art noises to a Mexican horror Comic book, it will fry your brain and your speakers. TUBES WORLD TOUR! THANX!
  21. That Joe Satriani dude, the one that did 'Surfing with the Alien.' He was no slouch. There is a lot of Bands of different genres that have great Guitar players for there genre. That one cat from Testament isn't bad. I guess what I'm saying there is a lot of underated/unknown guitarists as well. Ah, wotta I know, I'll go shite myself to Lustmord.
  22. What kind of non-electrolytic power supply cap do you think would work, that would be better musically? I know of Audio Grade supply caps, but these are Polarized Electrolytics as well. ? This message has been edited by mike stehr on 02-14-2002 at 01:25 AM
  23. 'Bulbie' Sounds like something you would call Elmer Fudd.
  24. Good deal, the unit has a internal fuse inside, and it was blown. Clean it up real good, and throw a new fuse in. And hope. Sometimes things are fried and can't tell visually. But hopefully that Fuse saved your unit. Good luck!
