  1. I'm the one with TWO SVS 16/46's and no amp, Boa. I'm sure I'll try both channels when I eventually get one. Just Joshin' Ya! THANX!
  2. Yup! these amps don't do 2 ohm loads. THANX!
  3. Boa, I looked at the Samson 700 manual online. When you use it in bridged mode, they say to use 8 ohm drivers. So I think with the 4 ohm drivers, it puts to much load on the amp itself. A guess. THANX!
  4. Sounds good! The Samson pro sound amps do not have RCA plugs. I was curious to what you were going to use in the way of a interconnect that converts from RCA to the plugs that are on the S1000. They look like some sort 3 or 4 pin DIN type. (I think they are balanced.) Happy Poundage!
  5. A S1000 with one 20/39? Monty, your gonna pound that poor tube, especially if you bridge that amp. (You will have tons of headroom, though.) Another 20/39? I would love to hear that S1000 on my 16/46's. Currently, they are collecting dust. BTW, What are using in the way of interconnects? THANX!
  6. You start routing around, there is some good deals on the net for various pro sound stuff, I guess. The one that caught my eye was a Crown CE1000a for $400. A Samson F-800 for $299. A Samson S1000 for $400. Samson 700 for $340. I can't see how a Audio Source Amp one/A could compare with Bryston 3B-T. From comparing the two from pics, you wouldn't think so. The Audio Source is only 200 watts bridged, not enough juice for a pair of 16/46's. That would be one listening test I would like to participate in. (The Audio Source compared to the Bryston.) The Audio Source looks cheap, visually.) Yeah, these are pretty mediocre amps, but one of these should do the job for my sub standard needs. THANX!
  7. Oh man, Pardon my sarcasm! Uh, Kicked and Scorned!
  8. Yeah, your probably right. I probably am bullsh**ting myself. Sorry if touched a nerve there, Tom. Look, all I did was change my system from Litz wire to Cat5. I noticed a change, it seems to sound better,IMO. Sorry if I seemed Patronizing, that post was Cocky, and I apologize. I'm just a bonehead rank audio amateur, pay no attention to me, I'm completely new to the Hobby. I've been to your website, and I really respect the old altec/JBL gear, and the sites you have refered everyone to concerning antique speakers. Like I said, real speakers. I have no life long audio history, but when me and my buddie were kids (mid-70's)we always loved Klipschorns but knew the Altec Lansing/JBL stuff was a step above. I mean no disrespect to you Tom, I'm sorry. I'm done with this wire thread BS, It's gettin' ugly. THANX!
  9. I'm a little slow to this thread, sorry. I'll look into what Colin recommends(Thanks BTW), but to much Theears apall, I will probably get a Samson amp. I could get a Carver or something used on a auction site, but Caveat Emptor. (No warranties for one, what conditions, it's also the amp that comes with the dual 16/46 package, etc...) I don't want to end up with another amp with dried out capacitors and transitors drifting way above tolerance. I will compare this amp to the one Colin suggested, spec wise, maybe white pages? Maybe it's a better design than a Samson, I'll research. Sorry Ears, but I don't have much cash, and I NEED a sub amp for the 16/46's. The Samson should be fine for this application. (For me, anyway.) Like you said, why waste a great thing like a Pass amp on subwoofers. If I hate it, then I'll upgrade. THANX!
  10. Don't do it, Ripped and Torn, just go to Home Depot and buy some 12 gauge wire. 'It's the BEST!' I better stop. THANX!
  11. It will probably suck up most the bass, and you get a back massage to boot.
  12. You gave it a gallant effort, Mister kh. Makes one shake one's head, doesn't it? "Ignorance is Bliss".
  13. Kevin, Go to Audio Asylum and research the Archives in Cable Asylum, and Tweakers asylum too. You will find hundreds of posts verifying listening tests from folks who have tried Risch's cable recipes. And others, Chris VH...etc... This is all subjective posting on the people's part. (No DBT rule.) Yes, there is no scientific proof. But you think all these poster's are full of BS, a bunch of sheep? And it is tough to tell differences in wire, when you have 5 billion components chained linked together, BTW. To each his own. THANX!
  14. Audio Research LS25, how much do these set one back? (I'm sure I can't afford it.) A mere guess here Colin, but It looks like these old Heritage or (Classic?) lines are so Dynamic and revealing that you have to shell out some big money on Solid State amplification, one with no artifacts too reveal in a dynamic speaker. Ear understands what I'm talking about. When you talk about the equipment choices and money involved, Tube amplifiers seem like a reasonable choice.(Costwise.) Audio upgrades: The last Frontier! I give up. It's time for me to just enjoy the music and what I have. Two 16/46's, MX-1,CX-1 amp and pre, and Chorus II's with wire and crossover upgrade. (Minus sub amp.) I'm still under two grand in the system. I won't mention the source. Most guys with my income, have a GPX stereo, so I don't think I'm doing too bad. Too much lurking, THANX!
  15. A lot of folks appreciate what Risch has contibuted to DIY audio. I am one of them. He tells it how it is with wire, no hype, no BS. He takes Physics SERIOUSLY, he doesn't buy into the simple Physic theories. I need to get some of that Belden Coax.(IC's.) THANX!
  16. (well some on this BB cant stand TheEAR...its fine with me). No way, can't stand you? Your such a swell guy! I LMAO when you posted 'Cornbreadwalls'. What Tube Pre-amps do you have any interests in? (Any brands?) I need to get a pair of 'Pornwalls', LOL. (Seriously though, a pair would be nice.) They must not be letting Forrest out in the Dayroom lately. THANX!
  17. That John Risch guy really knows his s**t. Doesn't he hang out at someplace called the Audio Asylum? Is this Cable you are using now, a Belden Coax Recipe, Homeless? Just Curious. THANX!
  18. I dunno Kevin, I went from Audioquest Litz to Cat5 twisted cables. I can tell the difference, (Less grainy.) All I am using at the moment is a Yamaha MX-1 amp, CX-1 pre amp, a cheesy Samsung 709 DVD player, which has pretty damn good audio, and a pair of Chorus II's. (and the Chorus's have Cat5 wired inside them also, with X-over upgrade.) Trust me, there is a audible difference from the cheap internal bell wire and junk crossovers. From what 'I' can hear. Can't prove it, and can care less. I think the possibility of a simple basic system with as few components as possible, may be easier to discern the differences in cables. And always keep in mind that someone else's gear sounds great from your house. Enjoy the music!
  19. Uh, I have a pair of 1970? Sansui SP-2000s. All alnico drivers. I know these are pretty much cheap speakers, but how would these work with a tube amp? They are 70 watt speakers. (I better bail before EAR finds out and gives me a scolding.) THANX!
  20. So do you folks think that Fisher SA-100 that David Dicks has is worth $495? THANX!
  21. Hey TV, I tried to Email Tech support At SVS 3 or 4 days ago, Did you ever receive the message? THANX!
  22. I agree with the guy with the same Avatar. sixty bucks could buy a lot of resistors, and a couple fancy caps to boot. And pad accordingly. BTW, I use Cat5 too. THANX!
  23. What Tube 'Kits' will acheive this task?
