"Yep exactly how mine looked too. Well at least as far as the diaphragms go. Wiring may have been a "tad" different:). Definitely different now cuz I replaced the binding posts and wiring"

Got some pics?  Replaced because they failed or some other reason?

Weird I never got a notice that you quoted me. But yeah there's some pix, let me find 'em. And no there was nothing wrong it was just FUGLY and I'm anal. I could not believe a $2k driver was built like what I saw.

  2. Not that I know of, it's the Crown 1002 with no programs set at all, straight amp to sub.

    No low pass filter,

Huh? Your running a full range signal to the 1502?

What's feeding the Crown? Perhaps filters are set up in an active crossover?

  3. Only this. I have a Samsung too. Can't remember which model. So far so good. It's been about 6(?) years, knock on wood. I have heard Samsung had quality problems with some capacitors in the past. Of course at the unit level you just want to know which board to replace or is it the LED screen itself. I started watching some youtube vids yesterday when you first posted, there's a lot out there as you probably well know. I could not find a source for a service manual, which sucks. Perhaps it just requires more digging.(Call Samsung?) Sorry I can't be any more help. But I know when mine goes out I'll be getting into it. I do not agree with the "it only cost $1500, so after 2 years buy another" B.S.

I'm sorry [and cheap].. $240/bottle.... a fifth... Can't be that good. Like the mega $$$ bottles of wine/vinegar. For folks that have more dollars than sense.

then ... I do drive a 30 year old beater car and roll my own cigarettes. My $$ are kinda precious. I splurge on good coffee.

How's 'bout some $240K speakers then:)

  5. Wow. Thunder and lightning(and rain of course) last night. First time in a while around these parts. Still intermittent drizzle this AM, like we're living in a cloud:) Doesn't look like we had much damage Thank God. The more work we do around the homestead the better we fare.:emotion-44:

You joke but you have no idea how true that is.  The day after I first shaved my head I couldn't believe how much cooler normal temperatures felt.  Now when I get cold I can put on a knit hat and it feels like I've put on a jacket.  There's a reason that hospitals immediately put a cap on newborns heads.  You can lose a lot of heat up there.

Yea, you ever notice the steam coming out of a football players head, in the cold weather when they go over to the sideline and take off their helmets?

Don't laugh but it's Emotiva A 100, at 50 wpc, they do have more power than the D-75's positively.

I'm not laughing, those look well built. As long as the fan is quiet and the toroid don't hum. I assume made in China not Chino:)

No tip, I was using 2 for active 2 ch and eventually, they both got a buzz. It was the actual amp that was buzzing and NOT through the speakers. I really liked the sound but changed them out for something else.

Did not know this. I thought you still used them. My 4 are still OK but now I know what fate awaits me:)

Did the amplifier go DC and melt the woofer? That would sure do it.

An amplifier check may be in order.

DIng! Ding! There are capacitors blocking any DC from amp getting to the squawkers and tweeters, but alas not the woofers.

@DWALT I would not just hook up a new woofer to this same amp without checking into this.

Or at least put a fast acting low amperage fuse in series before the first power up.

  10. During this thread I refurb'd 4 D75s. I was trying to do 5 but I  succeeded in blowing up one of the transformers that you are asking about. Silly me I thought an amp that is rated at 35watts per channel into 8 ohms should be able to do it continuously. Not so, I melted the insulation on the transformer windings. So I had to do a transfomer swap from the fifth unit into the one with the bad transformer, thus now I only have 4 good amps. There are no replacement parts available unless you want to get one custom built for around $500. Anyway what I know about the transformer is it is mounted into the chassis with double sided foam tape on one side and two rubber bushings with threaded inserts on the other. You could try replacing the bushings and foam tape if they have dried out/cracked/deteriorated with age. But if the hum is being caused by the laminations of the transformer core separating there is not much you can do.

All of the above assumes you are referring to hum coming from the unit itself and not through your speakers.
