  1. Awesome. Since we are brainstorming, take a look at the pro series Lascallas. Width would be a issue, but 3 top sections of a split Lascallas gets you an awesome midrange horn and a horn for the higher end. Maybe a manageable footprint around your furnishings. Good luck in your quest. I've never heard the KLF series. there are a few here that rave about them for their 2ch rigs. Also, awesome not having to comprimise on a horizontal center and having the same front 3.
  2. Do you want KLF20s cause they are 3-way? There are several floor standing speakers if dimensions are you biggest concern. Especially around the footprint of KLF20s For HT, I'm not sure the KLF20 would beat out a RF7 or RF7ii. Bigger problem is you want your front stage to be timbre matched. Not sure watch would match those. Timbre matched meaning this: As something travels from left to right on the screen, it should do so seamlessly. You shouldnt be able to say, "K, train is in the left speaker, now it's in the middle speaker, ooh now it's in the right speaker." In the reference series, this is done because the timbre matched sets use the same horn and driver in the LCR speakers, or front stage.
  3. Some food for thought. I think you can't miss if you grab them to plus up your Ref HT. 7.1 rear surrounds would be great if you didn't like them over your 83s. On another note, my LaScalas are my favorite speaker. Just dont have he luxury of a lovely wife that thinks they are aesthetically pleasing. If I had the option, I'd have a heritage HT.
  4. That's exciting news!! Can't wait to hear about the experience.
  5. RS speakers don't need a back wall. I prefer my RS to directional for sides. I know the sound came from "over theer" not "right there". And with a big room, you'll want to fill the space not isolate it. It's a wrapping envelope cocoon of sound. My pref. YMMV.
  6. Scrappy, could you be experience "imaging" in the downstairs system that you may not in the other? Toeing speakers in, speaker height, room acoustics and many other variables can achieve this.
  7. There are a handful of folks here that have that receiver in their setup and really enjoy it. Great AVR!
  8. Don't move down!! Upgrade bugs are more prevalent at that altitude! Save up and get what you really desire.
  9. Scrappy, u'd loose timbre if you don't get a RC-64ii also. You know what I bet you'd benefit more from, room treatments!!
  10. You're in the wrong place to seek empathy when it comes to downsizing The RB-61s are amazing bookshelves. If its a physical size issue, how bout 3 RB-61s across the front! Perfect match.
  11. Um, sounds like you stole it at that price! $500 with some blemishes would be a great deal. Mine is perfect and I got a great deal at $750. Great find!! I'm running a single input. When Audyssey sets it up, it wants 70db on the mic at the main listening position. I have a large room and I only turn the dial up about a quarter of the way for that calibration which gets me 70db. I adjust it from there for whatever I'm listening to. I've gone past halfway, and quickly returned to a lower setting. Kiddo an I were watching Star Wars I the other day. Left the living room just before the pod races started. It was rattling pictures in the master bedroom. When I came back into the room, the kid was standing up staring at the TV. I put my hand on he shoulder and she jumped! Punched me in the ribs and said, "Don't scare me!! It's to loud! Turn it down!" My ribs agree, glowing endorsement!!
  12. I went from the Pioneer 1019-ah to my Onkyo 3008. Love the switch!! The GUI is far better IMO. Audyssey XT32 was a driving factor also. Took me over a year to finally get my amp. I'm stoked for you! And totally error free use here.
  13. Dude this is awesome! I'd take off work for the rest of the week.
  14. You don't need to do an AVR + sep Amp upgrade. Why not just a better AVR with Pre-outs, THEN when budget allows, add the amp. There are plenty of AVRs that can work the RF-7ii's until you get an amp....if ever.
  15. Audio Video Recievers (AVR) with preouts can utilize external amps. I started with my AVR, using its amps. AVRs may be rated at 120 watts per channels, but that power drops as you start plugging in more speakers. By the time you plug in 7 speakers, 120 per channel has dropped to around 60 watts per channel or worse. An external amp will have that power available, always! So mine worked good but I had experienced the difference of external amps and am glad I made the switch. A Pre/pro does the processing of the AVRs but doesnt have amps. It has to have external amps for it. The advantage of a Pre/pro is it doesn't have the interference of the power amp circuitry. Typically better sounding. So there are some laymans explanations to get you in the right direction.
  16. Welcome fellow Sooner! (from a misplaced one) So here is a link to how I waited over time to get where my system is at http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/165290/1766939.aspx#1766939 So for an idea on what my system runs retail vs Klipsch's MSRP listing: Front 3: $3k Surrounds: $950 My AVR: $1k My Amp: $809 My sub is used and discontinued but went for $750
  17. Coytee, although funny now, I can certainly relate to some hair raising moments in my life like that. And then he relief afterwords. Great story!
  18. I'm thinking of skipping this in the theaters so I can experience it on Bluray in my home. We watched Contraband with Mark Walberg the other day and there was an breaking glass explosion that happened off to the left side of the screen. It was so dynamic that Myself and the wife both tried to dodge the explosion!!! I have high hopes for the surround sound experience coming with this movie.
  19. You don't have to do FLAC. iTunes does lossless. So if you still have the CDs, you can rerip them that way.
  20. The RB-61s are just fantastic! I was so impressed with them the first time I was introduced to them. The RF-7ii is the current production model. It is Timbre matched to the RC-64ii. If you are going with the discontinued RF-7, the matching center is the discontinued RC-7. The discontinued series pop up in the garage sell section of the forum from time to time and Craig's List is a good place to look in your local area.
  21. I won't lie, 3 402 horns for a front stage would certainly be the ultimate theater dream for me.
  22. Well, took me almost a year since buying my RF-7ii's and RC-64ii from Acousticsounddesign to finally add an external amp to my HT. I'm now experiencing the separation in music that is spoke of. And the dual 10s are finally doing what they are supposed to do! Totally worth the leap!! So I was going to get an XPA-2 and let the AVR handle the center and surrounds. But, I decided that would make an expensive leap into separates later, even more of an expensive leap. Wouldn't be able to drive the other speakers if I go separates with an XPA-2. Sooooo, I am the proud owner of an Emotiva XPA-5. What I love is the detail I get out of dialog from the center channel during movies. In two channel, I can finally stand to listen to my Onkyo on pure audio. The one thing pure audio does on the Onkyo that I don't like, is it doesn't process lower freqs to the sub. So before, the Onkyo just wasn't good enough, to me, to make the RF-7ii's sing in pure audio. Found myself using stereo more often because that gives you output to the sub. Now I can enjoy it with the amp in-line as there is plenty of clean constant power to make those 10s produce the lows. So my journey so far: Join Klipsch forum after hearing co-worker la scallas and being amazed! Sneak a steal of a deal on some blown Lascallas($275 I think), repair, refinish, try to bring in the house. WAF goes nuts, end up in the garage to enjoy out there. Get the bug for ref series cause she likes the look. Decide not to settle on lower series and save up for top ref series Save for months, hit the purchase on the front three Hit a CL deal for $120 on some old RS-3s, use those for awhile Start saving for a PB13 ultra ($2k) - side track to an RSW-15 ($750) and am very happy (I'll go back after one when I have a dedicated room) Tell wife, "gotta do a day trip from San Antonio to Dallas. 11hr round trip. Meet a forum member and have a blast BS'n and talking audio. (Thanks Dan!!) Wife helps me carry it in as she is cussing me cause it's huge and gonna be an eye sore =+) Love her! (it's grown on her...good to go now) Save up for RS-62ii's, get those....sell the RS-3s for more than I paid for them!! Save up for the amp and here I am. So I bought everything new but the RSW-15. But saved up for everything over time. (this was important to me to not do it all on credit) Took me well over a year but I've got to a point that many people would dream to be. Very happy with my system, happy with this amazing forum, and very happy with the products!
  23. The podcast had one of the developers say the we're able to get 1.1kw out of a single channel into 4ohms. Followed that up by saying dont do that! Testing only. And they have their XPRs setup to release a 2ch and monoblock.
  24. I wouldn't go with the 1312 because it doesn't have Pre-outs. These are line level outputs that allow you to hook up an external amp. External amps (like emotivas XPA-5) would give you 200 watts per channel with all channels driven. If you don't get Pre-outs now, you limit yourself if you want to add some clean power later. AVR's may say 120 watts per channel but that drops significantly when you are driving 5 speakers. More like 70 at that point. An external amp will always have the stated wattage available regardless of how many speakers are driven.
  25. Awesome man! I know that feeling. Travel safe and welcome home!!
