  1. My Cornwall Center channel is hanging above my TV (see pic in profile) and it is angled down towards the listener. However if you are just trying to match the KHorns you may not need to do that. The important thing for HT and 5.1 music is to have all the tweeters aimed at yur head. I would just try it both ways and see which sounds better. That is all that matters. Don't forget to calibrate all the speaker levels with a sound meter. Laters, Jeff
  2. The picture adjustments will work with your TV. If you have some way to balance the volume of th equipment either via preamp levels in the DVD player or the volume controls on the amps the disc should work for you. Don't forget that you will need a sound meter also. Amazon carries the Avia disc. Laters, Jeff
  3. ---------------- On 7/6/2005 2:27:24 PM Born2RockU wrote: Is this the NEW one or the Original surround version...I purchased 9 months ago? ---------------- It looks like it is still the original version but it does have 5.1 surround sound on it (at least the special edition does). I have had this for awhile too and it is a great demo disc. Laters, Jeff
  4. Colin I certainly understand and agree with everything you have said. As I stated this is very much an experiment for me into the world of digital amps. At a cost of $200 I figured it was worth the risk. I will be able to compare this unit to several different amps from vintage tubes, 70's SS, 1990's SS, and 2000's SS so it should be interesting to say the least. Findings on other boards say that the distortion is on similar harmonics as tube amps and that is why the sound is so close. Again I have no solid test or listening results to back this up yet. Laters, Jeff
  5. Here is a press release containing some more information http://www.audioholics.com/news/pressreleases/KenwoodVRS-N8100receiver.php The lab results of a Panasonic unit that uses the same TI PurePath amps http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/assets/download/PanasonicSA-XR70lab.pdf So it looks like Dr. Who was right about the 75 WPC figure. It looks to have a nice flat frequency response. The proof is in the pudding as they say so I will report back here after some listening time. Laters, Jeff

I don't think it is rated across the full spectrum, but probably @ 1 khz. I am very curious as to how it will really perform, and probably because I am a 00 awg wire guy . Bottom line, if you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else says. ---------------- Ah all good points I will not have a chance to finish hooking it up until this weekend but I will make sure to post back here with the results. I will see if I can find any more specs on it. Laters, Jeff

Let us know how it performs. ---------------- Humm I am driving my Cornwall mains in my other 5.1 setup with a 35 watt per channel tube amp and it is plenty loud. You don't think 100 watts per channel will be enough to drive the Heresys? Or do you not think it will actually put out that type of power? Not trying to be an a$$, this is my first purchase of one of these digital amps so I don't quite know what to expect. I have heard the Teac 3 channel unit on some KHorns and it was great. 8. ---------------- On 7/5/2005 10:19:24 PM timbley wrote: Looks interesting. I only see speaker outputs for two channels though, unless those connectors that look like phone jacks are meant for the surround and center chanels. ---------------- Yeah that is one of the problem with this class of amp. They are really meant to fit into the "modern" living room with a flat panel display and smaller speakers so they try and keep them as small and as slim as possible. They are not really made with the "I need to use 4 gauge wire for my speakers" guy. This is one of the few amps that even has the binding posts instead of spring clips for the front mains. The other connections are a custom type of connector that will accept up to 18 gauge wire. I am planning on making pigtails out to binding posts. Additionally there are pre-amp outs for the rear channels so you could put a different amp there as well. Laters, Jeff
  9. Ok so I took the plunge and purchased the Kenwood VSR-N8100 digial amp. I have read about the new breed of digital receivers all over the web so I thought I would give one of these little suckers a try. It is a 6.1 100WPC amp that will also connect to a home network to stream video, photos, and music files from a PC. This unit uses the TI digital amps and is supposed to sound very nice. I will be using it for my front projection system hooked to 6 Heresys. I will post back here once it is all hooked up and I have had some run time on it. If you want to read more about it goto http://www.kenwoodnetwork.com Front and Remote Rear Connections Laters, Jeff

Several other guys showed up and it was a good listening session. I would certainly welcome anyone local to hear my all Forte/Academy setup (upgraded with my custom crossovers), though it is primarily for HT use only. Nothing special compared to most I've seen, adequate for me, and you'd also get to play some vintage pinball machines if you wished. Jeff, it would be nice to have a get-together again. I do appreciate you having me over last year. Chris ---------------- Oh yeah listening sessions are the best!! Heck I would host one once a month but I figure poeple get tired of coming over I am waiting for my digital amp to arrive and I think that would be a good time for me to host another one. This amp will be driving the Heresys in the front projection room. I know Dave M. is going to host one when he gets his amp back from Craig for some tube vs digital comparisons. I would love to see and hear you system and pinball machines. Set a date and I will be there! Laters, Jeff
  11. Drool.... What is up with all the TX KHorns going up for sale when I have no money..if it had only been 2 months ago..sigh. Welcome to the forum and I sure that someone will want them. They are beautiful!! Laters, Jeff
  12. Oh yeah we are still here!! Although the group is not the most active in the world we still let each other know about speaker deals and get togethers along with the occassional jibe. I see that Kriton and rdmarsiii have requested to join and your membership should now be active so post already We keep the group "memebers only" due to the fact that we are always giving out our addresses and we all have nice stuff that we would not want someone to help themselves too. Laters, Jeff
  13. Guys - Having seen pictures of the unit I think his complaint on the size is not the weight but why is it so damm big. It surely could have fit into a much smaller package. It you need to fit this unit in a tight spot you will have issues. Laters, Jeff
  14. Ah yes good point Dave not a shootout. Just a chance to listen and compare different technologies. Hopefully you will be on your way back on Thursday! Laters, Jeff
  15. Dave - Welcome home and thanks for your service! I guess some good came out of that "other" war in that most people that I talk to who are against this war still honor and support the troops. Hopefully there will be no need to avoid spitting this time around. Now on a lighter note I saw your post on the DFW Hornheads and I can't wait for the digital amp vs. tube amp shootout. Well that plus some cold beers and good company of course! I already have some tunes picked out so make sure to let us know after you get settled and can host the event. Since I trust your ears I have been doing lots of reseach on digital amps ever since your post. They certainly look promising. I also listened to a modified (ran off a battery) TEAC amp at Guy's house. Maybe we can convince him to bring that along as well. Once again welcome home! Laters, Jeff
  16. I agree with Frzninvt. Those are just normal Heresy's that someone modified. You can even see the where the orginal terminal block holes were filled in. All of the Industrial Heresys that I have seen have a recessed circular plate with the connections and a fuse. Klipsch would have never shipped a product with the 1/4 jack like that. So now down to pricing. Since you now have a pair of, in my opinion, badly modified stock Heresy's they will only be worth in the $200 range. It will take some work to make them look pretty again. However if all the drivers work and the crossover is not damaged they would make great surround speakers that someone could just paint black. Laters, Jeff
  17. For those of you who are on the fence or wondering about the Fisher, it will be a great match with any Klipsch speaker. I have a Fisher 500B that I am using with Cornwalls right now but I have used it with Heresys and RF-3's. It is an awesome sounding tube amp. The FM tuner section is awesome too. Fisher made fantastic equipment and has a large following of impressed listeners. If I had the extra cash I would fork over the $400-$500 for this piece without any question. It looks like it is in great shape. Laters, Jeff
  18. Amazon has the Cinema 6 System for $950. I think that is about average for the system. Laters, Jeff
  19. Sorry I got side tracked on real life for a couple of days Anyway I would suggest that you invest in a good receiver, subwoofer, and front main speakers and then add the rest as you can. Receiver: Remanufactured Harman Kardon AVR 525-Z from their website $430 ($900+ retail) ****EDIT***** Dang it everything got cut off after this point - reposting Subwoofer: SVS PB12-ISD $600 or 25-31PCi for $549 Speakers - $500 Used - Try and find Heresys (will need 5 since there are no new matching surrounds or center. They go fro about $400/pair + shipping), Used R*-3's New - Synergy Series or drop the SVS woofer and combine funds to get a Cinema 6 or 8 package. Hope this helps!! Post back with any questions. Laters, Jeff
  20. Just as a point of reference the 2 port Cornwalls are generally Decorator models while the 3 port models generally had grills. Chris - If you need to check your work against actual Cornwalls feel free to stop by when you have a complete motherboard. I have a set of 2 port, a set of 3 port, and a vert Cornwall too. Laters, Jeff

Do you have any electronics right now or does this cash have to go towards a DVD player too? Will you be using your PC as your DVD player? Do you want to connect a gaming console to the system? How much room do you have (room size)? Laters, Jeff

I'm just looking for a descent system for my roomates and myself to enjoy and annoy the neighbors =) thanks michael ---------------- Michael - What is your budget? We really need this information to suggest the right system for you. Laters, Jeff
  24. Yeah good luck finding anything electronics related not made in China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore etc.. Best case is that it was assembled in the USA with parts made overseas. Whatever the brandname on the device, the USA has not produced a CD Drive, DVD Drive, TV, VCR etc. in many many years. In some cases there is simply no other place to get the parts. It has even gotten to the point where a company can go to the Manufacturing company of their choice and say "make me this device" and they will do everything and slap whatever label you want on it. Even the highend guys are guilty of this. I know we would all like to buy "made in the USA" but that simply is not possible anymore. Even cars from Ford and GM contain upwards of 30% imported parts. Laters, Jeff
  25. There is someone here who did split up the Heresy horns and woofer. He mounted the tweeter and mid horn in a box on the ceiling and closed off the holes in the woofer box. This way you can use the same crossover but you will need to run wires to the tweeter and midrange from the proper points on the crossover board. You can then move the woofer portion off to the side if you need to. Laters, Jeff
