  1. $499.99 medium oak academy showing up on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3063619005&category=14992
  2. cool - my son planted a seed of doubt in my mind when I was headed out the door to the Post Office. "Dad there's nothing in that box!" I can ignore the doubt now.... :^)
  3. Gary - does your Academy have the Klipsch logo on it? ( Did they get there?)
  4. I've used both in the same setup....I like the Heresy better, the form is an issue. I'd buy half of a set of Oak Clear Heresy IIs .....
  5. I hope you'll offer it to the forum first! I sold one recently and had offers as high as $600. I think you should have a reverse auction. Offer it at $600 for day, if you don't get a buyer, drop it to $550 the next day, and so on.....might be fun! They are bringing a ton of money. I've found that since my main interest is music, that I am much happier with a heresy as a center, but those whose empahsis is movies really like the acadamy.
  6. Couple of thoughts - - "you can't legislate morality" or impose honor on someone else's character - we now know the price of one person's integrity - I guess i am not willing to do more than shake my head at this person's actions, and i hope the next time i mess up i'll get no worse than that.....
  7. I appreciate the info so far... I do have a Dynaco qd-2 and I am amazed at what the addition of the center channel does for my albums. I rarely hear much from the rear speakers, but I suspect it may be that they are not efficient (like the Fortesand heresy in front). Iv'e never had or been exposed to quad. Eliminate cd-4 from the mix, since i have not and probably won't ever spend the money for a cartridge to play those. I guess my specific questions are: 1) When playing qs for example, are there four equal channels, or is more like surround sound where the back channels provide "fill" or "ambience"? 2)Does the QD-2 do the same thing as a quad decoder ( like sansui for example) from the old days? 3) If I did have more efficient speakers in the back, would I get the same thing or something close to what an old qaud receiver or amp would have done? Or to get the full effect do you need the decoder and 4 channel amplification? Thanks for your patience - -
  8. nyuk nyuk - I am looking for a single or mateless........ Heresy II, Quartet, or Forte to use as a center speaker. I'm watching EBAY, of course, but wanted to ask here just in case....many thanks - feclough@aol.com
  9. Hi - I was just given (for a quarter apiece) a huge collection of records. Some of them are quad. I'd like to buy a quad decoder, receiver, or anything that would allow me to fool around with these quead records. Don't know too much about this, so I don't want necessarily to spend a bunch of money. Thanks - Forrest
  10. If two people split a pair of quartets, do each of them end up with a pair of octets?
  11. Well, since the deal was not honored and the dealer was not honorable, I'm moving away from that acadamy and on to the consideration of the wise alternative posted here. Anyone here interested in finding and splitting a pair of quartets? Without the riser (or base) they are only 28 inches tall, (less than 5 inches longer than an acadamy).
  12. Well- I had a deal with the seller, but so many people hit him with a barrage of mail ( including many names that I recognize from this forum) that he reneged and changed it to an auction. Oh well, I suppose someone here will enjoy the speaker and he will enjoy the proceeds. (Palms up, head shaking....)
  13. The Fortes play deeper, and....the floor space they take up really isn't much more than Heresys, they're taller tho. I have both, and if I could just keep one pair, it'd definitely be the Fortes. YMMV
