  1. James, have you considered trying other avenues to get this predicament resolved? If you haven't, it's long overdue.
  2. aab3rd - Thanks for the heads up. Consider me illuminated. As far as your predicament, for what it's worth I have a similar situation where my options for placing the rear surrounds are somewhat unorthodox. I chose to go with some RS-3s (WDST) in hopes they would provide some flexibility in placement over a forward firing model. I haven't received them yet so I'm not sure if this'll pan out or not.
  3. Hmmm. Are you sure the Parasound will process a 6.1 signal? I have one (AVC-1800) and unless I'm horribly mistaken it will only process 5.1 (DD & DTS) and it only has 5.1 outputs. Maybe I'm missing something here?

  5. Unfortunately, I don't have access to an outdoor antenna so I'm stuck with using the dreaded folded dipole. However, in my search to see if I could improve my reception I ran across this page of links. Scroll down to the FM section. There's some useful info in there. http://www.mindspring.com/~brucec/dx.htm
  6. Here's another endorsement for a pair of 'aged' Quartets that sound as good to my ears as the day I originally auditioned them back in '95.

    UBID antics

Though doster1's experience is deplorable, I've bought the following from ubid: Klipsch KSC-C1 - $79 + $20 S&H (New, No Reserve) Acurus A100X3 - $449 + $38 S&H (New, No Reserve) Acurus A100X3 - $389 + $38 S&H (New, No Reserve) Their shipping charges are certainly high, and they take their sweet time in getting here (10 days±), but I've received 2 out of 3 of those in perfect working order as advertised. The other Acurus should be here tomorrow per FedEx tracking. While I've been pretty pleased with my purchases so far, doster1's experience and other ones I've read about have given me good reason to look for bargains elsewhere. Sotheby's they're certainly not.

That does indeed suck. And doesn't do much for the Klipsch name either. I wonder if they're listening?

  10. $982! Steak dinners on Keith for everyone!!
  11. You know, I once thought there was an end to this process. I should have known better.
  12. Ha! Well I still haven't got anything to replace the Polks at the rear. I picked up the KSC-C1 that I told you about, another Acurus A100X3 (at $389 I couldn't pass it up) and a Parasound AVC-1800 for pre/pro duties. I've (the significant other) decided to go smaller on the rears so another set of Quartets is out. The s.o. has this funkified idea of where they should go so I was thinking maybe some SS-1s, RS-3s, or KSP-S6s might give me some flexibility with placement. What do you think? I did see what looked like a nice pair of KG 2.5s on ebay but I'm not sure how they'd fit with the Cattywhompus Speaker Placement Idea From Hell (CSPIFH). 13. Due to falling foul of the upgrade bug (must....resist....more....Klipsch), I've got a Denon AVR-981 receiver that I no longer need. I bought this locally about a month ago. It's my understanding that the 981 is the same thing as a 2801, just rebadged for sale at places like Sears. Have receipt, remote, original box, etc. $425 OBO. I'll pay shipping, handling, and insurance. Lower 48 states only. Product specs are here. Mail me if you're interested. Cheers.
