  1. James, have you considered trying other avenues to get this predicament resolved? If you haven't, it's long overdue.
  2. aab3rd - Thanks for the heads up. Consider me illuminated. As far as your predicament, for what it's worth I have a similar situation where my options for placing the rear surrounds are somewhat unorthodox. I chose to go with some RS-3s (WDST) in hopes they would provide some flexibility in placement over a forward firing model. I haven't received them yet so I'm not sure if this'll pan out or not.
  3. Hmmm. Are you sure the Parasound will process a 6.1 signal? I have one (AVC-1800) and unless I'm horribly mistaken it will only process 5.1 (DD & DTS) and it only has 5.1 outputs. Maybe I'm missing something here?

  5. Unfortunately, I don't have access to an outdoor antenna so I'm stuck with using the dreaded folded dipole. However, in my search to see if I could improve my reception I ran across this page of links. Scroll down to the FM section. There's some useful info in there. http://www.mindspring.com/~brucec/dx.htm
  6. Here's another endorsement for a pair of 'aged' Quartets that sound as good to my ears as the day I originally auditioned them back in '95.

    UBID antics

Though doster1's experience is deplorable, I've bought the following from ubid: Klipsch KSC-C1 - $79 + $20 S&H (New, No Reserve) Acurus A100X3 - $449 + $38 S&H (New, No Reserve) Acurus A100X3 - $389 + $38 S&H (New, No Reserve) Their shipping charges are certainly high, and they take their sweet time in getting here (10 days±), but I've received 2 out of 3 of those in perfect working order as advertised. The other Acurus should be here tomorrow per FedEx tracking. While I've been pretty pleased with my purchases so far, doster1's experience and other ones I've read about have given me good reason to look for bargains elsewhere. Sotheby's they're certainly not.

That does indeed suck. And doesn't do much for the Klipsch name either. I wonder if they're listening?

  10. $982! Steak dinners on Keith for everyone!!
  11. You know, I once thought there was an end to this process. I should have known better.
  12. Ha! Well I still haven't got anything to replace the Polks at the rear. I picked up the KSC-C1 that I told you about, another Acurus A100X3 (at $389 I couldn't pass it up) and a Parasound AVC-1800 for pre/pro duties. I've (the significant other) decided to go smaller on the rears so another set of Quartets is out. The s.o. has this funkified idea of where they should go so I was thinking maybe some SS-1s, RS-3s, or KSP-S6s might give me some flexibility with placement. What do you think? I did see what looked like a nice pair of KG 2.5s on ebay but I'm not sure how they'd fit with the Cattywhompus Speaker Placement Idea From Hell (CSPIFH). 13. Due to falling foul of the upgrade bug (must....resist....more....Klipsch), I've got a Denon AVR-981 receiver that I no longer need. I bought this locally about a month ago. It's my understanding that the 981 is the same thing as a 2801, just rebadged for sale at places like Sears. Have receipt, remote, original box, etc. $425 OBO. I'll pay shipping, handling, and insurance. Lower 48 states only. Product specs are here. Mail me if you're interested. Cheers.
  14. Just thinking about Donald Sutherland making that hideous screeching noise gives me the willies. Hmmm...speaking of pod people --->

Foreign Billing Address If you are using a credit card with a foreign billing address, you are required to provide the Credit Department with: A copy of the front and back of the credit card; A copy of your passport or another ID for picture identification; and Any document indicating your billing address (bank statement, utility bill, credit card statement, etc.)
  17. No, they're different. The SC-1 is from the current Synergy series. The KSC-C1 was built from '97 - '99. This message has been edited by Rob_S on 08-24-2001 at 11:59 AM
  18. FWIW, I got a KSC-C1 on ubid for $99 (incl. S&H) to replace an old Polk CS150 and I'm very happy with it. While it isn't an Academy, it performs the three functions required of it: 1) It sounds very good; 2) To my aged ears it provides a better match to my Quartets than the Polk; 3) It fits in the space I have available (unlike the much larger Academy).
  19. Thanks Steve, I'll take a look. The hunt continues...
  20. Hi Keith - I have a pair of Quartets I currently use for the fronts. I was planning on driving them and the CC with the Acurus amp, and the rears (Polks) with an Adcom amp I have. I'm looking to replace the Polks but I haven't found suitable replacements yet. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the Acurus. I've heard many good things about them and am anxious to see how it sounds. This message has been edited by Rob_S on 08-18-2001 at 11:19 AM
  21. A few days ago, I picked up a KSC-C1 for $79 + $20 S&H ($280 MSRP) on ubid. Yesterday, I won a bid for an Acurus A100X3 for $449 + $38 S&H ($1,000 MSRP). They were advertised as new and assuming they arrive in working order, those prices seem to me to be pretty good even when compared to a typical dealer discount. Granted, the shipping isn't the cheapest (particularly for products that weigh a lot), but I'm pretty happy overall. They've had KLF-10s and 20s, KLF-C7s, KSC-C1s, RP-3s, HS2s and a variety of Acurus amps up for bid lately. With regard to the "ubid scams" thread, there are some unusual bids, that's for sure. Some of that, I think, is people trying to lock in a low price or put them in an advantageous position for a later, higher bid. Though I'm unsure whether the guy that won 12 KSC-C1s really wanted that many or was just trying to outsmart the system. Some of the bids for 30 of 41 available products e.g. do look pretty fishy to me.
  22. quote: Originally posted by JuHorvath: I would listen to them side by side, unfortunately they don't arrive at the only klipsch dealer in the state until sometime next week, and then they likely will have RF7's in one room and the RF5's in another. Maybe I can get them to see the error in their ways! Juan Juan, if you can audition them and it isn't too great of an inconvenience, then I'd say by all means wait and make your own judgement. I would hope the dealer would be willing to set them up in the same room if you tell them you might easily be persuaded.
  23. Doug - Thanks much for the response and point taken if the Denon is anything other than off or in stereo. Now, if I could just find a great A/V preamp that didn't cost a hundred and sixty billion dollars, I wouldn't have to be so creative.
