I really appreciate all the good advice. Since I am right handed, I was going to grab the iron with my left, figuring that I had a 50-50 chance to pick the correct end. At any rate, I got the woofer installed (along with a 32oz bucking magnet epoxied into place) and started to work on the two dead K77 tweeters. Unfortunately, the folks at Klipsch sent me the diaphragm kits for the tweeters with the square magnet assembly instead of the "tea cup." While waiting for the correct kits to arrive, I'm going to attach a 1" x 2" x 20" oak brace diagonally on the inside of each back panel. Since the cabinets are 3/4" thick and the back is only 7/16" thick, I don't think a brace would do any harm. Thanks again, Dave in Nashville

I just received a K22 replacement woofer from Klipsch this afternoon for my crippled Heresy speaker. While connecting the speaker to the crossover, I noticed that the familiar red spot was not on the speaker terminal. Instead, the terminals were simply marked + and -. Am I correct in assuming that the wire with the red stripe is "positive?" Thanks in advance... Dave in Nashville Now if I can only remember which end of the soldering iron to hold on to....

Just bought a pair of '79 HWO Hereseys for use as center and rear channel speakers. For the center front speaker, I know I need a bucking magnet for the k22 woofer. Because the K55 midrange has a metal cup enclosure, do I need a magnet for it as well? While waiting for a new woofer and two tweeter diaphrams to arrive, I'll be working on the enclosures. Having trouble studying you poor little thing? You'll get no sympathy from me. Unless you have a valid reason such as a death or terrible illness in your family, you have no excuse. You have a choice to study or not to study. The decision is entirely in your hands. If you're still in school, call some of your friends who didn't come back this semester because of poor grades. Ask them to tell you how much fun they're having as the reality sinks in that they're now on the sidelines watching the world pass them by. Still undecided? Go down to the unemployment office in your city and spend a couple of hours getting to know your new peer group. Better yet, go to a trailer park or a subsidized apartment house and see what your new neighborhood might look like. Are your parents paying for your "education?" Just think how proud they'll be when you flunk out. Just think how much pleasure your mother will get telling her friends about you. Better yet, just think how proud she'll be when her friends tell her about their children. As I see it, you actually have three choices regarding your future. You can quit feeling sorry for yourself and just get your studying done. You can get a job at McDonalds. Or, you can join the military. There, they'll make all your decisions for you....when to get up, when to eat, when to sleep. Do what you've got to do.

I think $1,200 is high. Since I have two of those puppies with ALK crossovers, that should set a value of nearly $3,000 (ignoring a discount for volume). Theoretically, there is someone out there who would be willing to pay $1,200, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Dave in Nashville

Any chance for a picture of the speaker in question?

In my quest for a center channel speaker (would like to have a single Heresy), I've been checking local pawn shops here in Nashville. This afternoon, I found a single Klipsch KP-250 which is essentially a 49 pound three way speaker which can be mounted on a pole if desired. In the connection cup on the back side of the enclosure was the name, "LaScala." Surprise Surprise! The idiot at the pawn shop first said that the speaker was a subwoofer. I talked him into taking off the front grill and there in front of us were three speakers. We hooked the speaker up and it appeared to work. Although this thing looks like it would be more at home on the wall in a club, it wouldn't look out of place between my two '77 ALK LaScalas. Is this speaker an industrial version of a Heresy? I've always been impressed with the quality/expertise found on these forums. Here's my cry for help..... I just picked up a Denon 1803 a/v receiver and am trying to put together a home theater setup. At the moment, my main problem is selecting a center channel speaker which will fit in with my other speakers. My front speakers are '77 ALK LaScalas and the side surrounds are Klipsch KG4's. I also have a Velodyne 1012 subwoofer. The LaScalas are roughly seven feet apart and tilted upward roughly 10 degrees. (the tv is in the center). For the time being, the subwoofer is located two feet to the left of the left front speaker. The prime viewing position is eight feet in front of the tv. I haven't decided on rear speakers yet (single or pair). Thanks in advance for your help! Dave in Nashville

I thought about getting a Marantz 4300 but delivery to the store won't be until mid December. My upper limit for a receiver is about $500. Dave

Justin: I've enjoyed reading your posts since I joined the forum. I didn't know I needed a sound card...I use my computer primarily for business, but listen to internet radio while the machine is on. Since I have a home office, I was wondering what the music would sound like coming from my '77 ALK LaScalas if I routed it to the receiver. I'll check out some sound cards tomorrow. I didn't have a signature, but I'm not too happy with this new "improved" board. Maybe I resist change too much, but I liked the way the other board was organized/configured. Hopefully, it will improve as the people at Klipsch become more familiar with the program. For now, the word is phooey.

JWeeda: When I first got my LaScalas, I was disappointed with the lack of bass (even after I put in the ALK cross overs). It just didn't seem to go low enough. In fact, my KG4's had better bass. For a while, I had both sets of speakers hooked up. The efficiency of the Lascalas blew the KG4's away, but the bass from the smaller speakers filled the gap. About that time I had met "Dannocaster" here in Nashville through the forum (he was trying to sell a pair of LaScalas and I wanted to take a look). Instead of buying the Lascalas, I ended up buying a Velodyne from him instead. The difference was amazing. Ths first time I heard Khorns was nearly 30 years ago when I lived in Denver. I listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and was blown away. Unfortunately, I don't have the room for the Khorns Like yourself, I listen to a broad mix of music at fairly high volumes (100 db+) with only a 65 watt/channel amp. You don't need a lot of horsepower for LaScalas. Test drive a sub. I think you'll like what you hear. Good luck.

Jweeda, I also like to play my speakers loud. I have a pair of'77 ALK Lascalas with weak bass. To compensate, I got a Velodyne 1012 and it made an enormous difference. I'm currently saving up for another 1012 so I can have left and right subs. Good luck! Dave
