  1. Hello everyone… I have been looking into the RF7 II’s for the mains in my HT. At the present time I have a set of KG 5.5’s as I do love them but I’m curious as if anyone as an opinion on the subject?? I bought the KG’s for a good price of $200 and then added the Bob Crites upgrades which include the Ti- tweeters & cross over’s. I noticed as I changed the items the speakers did not have the proper bracing and such as I plan on modifying them to my liking. Before I go thru the expense & labor of modifying them I’m curious to rather or not it’s worth it? Such as…. If I were to modify the KG’s I have and compare them to the RF7 II’s would it be just a slight difference or more like a night & day difference?? If its just a slight improvement then I would rather save $2k as I can live with that, but if it’s a total noght & day ordeal then its worth it. Any thoughts??
  2. Thank you very much for the information! Sorry it took so long to respond back . I will give this "little" adventure a try here in July... cant wait
  3. Hello "JustTayler", thank you for the information!! I plan on doing the same thing to my KG 5.5's this year as I was curious to know if there would be any improvement... looks like there will be ( good news ) !! I upgraded my KG's with Bob Crites new cross overs & Ti tweers as I noticed an improment but not "day & night" as some have reported but never the less I believe it was worth it. When I replaced the cross overs & tweeters I was amazed to see that there was no internal bracing & just small amount of foam as otherwise it was one big empty box. If you dont mind me asking.... do you have any photos to share?? If not thats ok too, I would just like to see how you braced them and what you used. I could figure it out I believe but I have never done anything of the such for speakers so I am just looking for advise. Once again thanks for sharing the info. !
  4. I just noticed at a few places I can get the RF7II's at or under 2K but I think they are "B" stock... but never the less they would fit the bill. I also agree each has thier differnace in opinion as each has there own taste/style. I was just curious to see if any RF7II owners upgraded from the KG series as to what they thought as if they noticed a huge improvement is all. I just would hate to drop 2k or more to realise there would be only a little improvement is all as I sure most could relate to that .
  5. Without a doudt I couldnt agree with you more as I only wish I had a chance to listen to them in town here but of course no such luck . I may have to take a trip this summer to MNPLS which is 5hrs away...oh well .
  6. Thank you for the reply Youthman! I have somewaht thought about the orig. 7's but I was told the RF7II's were total redefined is all. It would save me quite a bit of $$$ thou .
  7. KG 5.5's vs RF 7II's ?? Hello everyone, I wasnt sure where to post this so I thought I would start in the RF 7II's section as thats what I have been trying to deceide. I am curious to see if anyone has upgraded from the KG 5.5's to the RF 7II's and noticed a HUGE differnace is all? I can only assume thier would be some advatage but for $3k had to say?? "In a nut shell" heres my situation . I bought a pair of KG5.5's last year for $200 and then upgraded the tweeters & X-overs using Bob Crites kits. I love the KG's as they sound great to me, its just in the back of my mind for some reason I think the RF 7II's would be even twice the performance I have, in the back of my mind that is . No one around my area carries the RF 7II's so I dont have a chance to listen for myself. I still have to do a little work to the KG's as I noticed there was no bracing and just some slight foam so I plan on redoing that this summer, I'm not sure how much that will help out persay but it cant hurt. I did notice a slight differance in sound (more with the midrange thou) when I installed the Bob Crites upgrade but nothing like some have posted to where it was almost night & day, never the less I believe it was well worth the $300 as it sounds great to me. I use them more for HT than music, about 75% to 25% I say. I do however likethat the KG's are front ported to where the RF's are rear but thats not a big deal. Anyhow, sorry for the post as I am just trying to deceide on a future purchace is all to rather or not its worth the extra cash to upgrade. Thanks! Jeff
  8. Thanks for the responce . $700 is tempting but as you mentioned the referance lince may be a better way to go. My main purpose is HT as I listen to 2ch music only about 10% or so. THe KG's I have do quite well for my set up now so I have no complaints. I have herd the RF 7's ( not ll"s ) as they had a fantastic sound, at least for HT as I did not have a chance to listen to them for music. Once again... thanks!
  9. THanks Mark for the Reply! He shot me a price of $700 for the pair so I guess thats not out of line from what you have listed. I guess the other question is if I were to spend $700 on a pair then modify it with Bob Crites items I would be looking at around the $1100 mark... so the question would be to get those or save a few dollars up and get the Klipsch RF7 II's as I hear they are a fantastic speaker as well.
  10. Hello guys, I thought I would ask on the fourm to see what a fair price for the Klipsch KLF30's would be? Theres a gentelman in town that has a set for sale but wants to sell his HK AVR & such with the package. He said he would split the package and sell the KLF 30 seperate but wanted me to shoot him a price. They seems to be in good shape but I may have to refinish the cab's as they are not black. I have a pair of KG 5.5's with Bob Crites mods & Ti tweeters so I'm not sure if the KLF's would be that much of an upgrade... but being a 3way wouldnt hurt. Any Idea of what I should shhot him for a price? And would it be just a slight upgrade or a vast differnace? Thanks for the Help! Jeff
  11. I have not tried the Klipsch WA-2 but I do have the OAW3 Wireless hooked to my Outlaw EX as it was fantastic... for me anyhow. The only downside to it is it lowers the Db's by 3. When I tested it with my SPL meter it would run 3 Db lower than when hooked up with cable, not a big deal thou as I made up for it on the gain and AV. For information: Link www.outlawaudio.com/products/OAW3.html I can only assume the WA-2 works just as good from what I have read.
  12. Hello T.B.C, I hope all is well?? I have not had a chance to listen to the Herseys but I do believe the price on them sounds like a fantastic deal! I have a pair of KG 5.5's as I do like them quite well... of corse I have the Bob Crites mods as that helped out a little bit with the mids and such. At $475 they are a little over priced unless they have been modified then not to bad. I bought mine used for $225 as its seems thats about around the price tag... stock that is. Around $200 to $350 seems to be the going rate anyhow. I use them mainly for HT so I have two subs to match with the KG's but for music they arnt to bad as well... I still use the subs thou. The KG's do have pretty good bass if you are using them as a 2 ch set up all by themselfs, its just I prefer a little more bass is all.
  13. I did email Klipsch yesterday as I do believe it take a few days for them to respond so no big deal. Its just a "personl" prefernace is all .... kinda like a "custom" rebuild . I will have to post back to see what Klipsch tells me. THanks guys and have a great day!! Jeff
  14. Thank you very much for the welcome & feedback! Its not that the drivers/woofers are that bad really, it's mainly "thinking" that I should replace the drivers in the near future is all since they are 15/16 yr old... and I do like the gold drivers of the RF7's as well . I do however plan to play around with the cabinets in the spring/summer as to what you have mentioned thou. I also would expect that I wont be able to get the drivers from Klipch as you mentioned but I thought it would be a shot to ask thou . Once again, thanks for the feedback and take care!! Jeff
  15. Hello J-4 and welcome!! Bob Crites repairs, rebuilds and offer's replacement & upgrade parts for Klipsch speakers.... great guy by the way!! Anyhow, here is the site to contact him..... www.critesspeakers.com I have a pair of Klipsch KG 5.5's as I used him for the upgrade of my tweeters & crossovers. Do you have the KG4's or the KG 4.2/4.5's ? The reason I ask is because the KG 4's have the K-74-K tweeter as the 4.2/4.5's have the K-85-K.... smae as the KG 5.5's I have. If its the 4.2/4.5 I do have the orig. pair you can have in which are still good, just orig. is all. To be honest thou, I would reccomend the new Ti-tweers over the orig.'s as they are not that much... if Bob has them in stock that is??
  16. Hello everyone, I hope all is going well?? I have somewhat of an "odd" question as to if the 10" drivers from the RF-7 II's will work/fit in the KG 5.5's as they have a 10" 25.4cm driver as well. Has anyone tried or herd of someone doing this? The reason I ask is because I have upgraded the tweeters & crossovers using Bob Crites and plan on replacing the driver in the future. I do believe the drivers are still good as they tested with an average of 7.6 to 8 ohm... but given the fact I have replaced the rest I figured why not replace the drivers as well, not to mention I like the "Ascetics" ( looks that is) of the RF 7's gold driver . I do also realise its a bit "nuts" to replace something that works fine as I dont really expect it to perform any different but I'm looking at it as if " restoring an older GTO" . I did contact Klipsch just today as if they could help so I dont expect an answer right away... just curious as if anyone has done or herd of this? P.S.: Sorry to take up space/time... just curious is all [:^)]
  17. Hummmmm...??? It "may be" a legit deal (...maybe that is) but I do find it kinda odd the OP has not re-posted back after his 1st post.
  18. I have a pair of KG 5.5's a I bought awhile back as maybe I can shed some light uopn your situation. As posted "He tells me that he un-hooked a set of booos 401s and connected the Klipsch and had to turn up the volume a lot to be equal". Well in essence I can somewhat agree with that statement as I did not compare the KG's to Bose but to a pair of Bic Pl-76 towers ( now used as surrounds). Even thou the KG's are rated pretty high for sensitivity (98db @ 1w /meter) the Bics I have would should a bit louder at lower volume, the Bics are rated 96db @ 1w/meter. I recently replaced the tweeters and crossovers with Bob Crites items as I did not notice a "night & day differance" as some have experianced but what I did notice was a much better sound feild in mids & highs... 2ch stereo that is. The titanium tweeter replacements produced a much smoother high than the originals as I believe the new cross overs gave it a better mid feild. As far as the drivers go, if you are able to use a muliti meter to test them they should have a reading of 7.6 to 8.1 as that was the readings I got after testing all four. THe KG's do sound better the more power you give them so I will give the advantage to the KGs over the Bics but then again the Bics produce a bit more sound and lower volume. As far as speaker wire goes, I would reccomend a 14ga wire, you can use a 12 if you want or have a longer run but I dont think you are going to notice a differnace at all.
  19. To be honest there is no right or wrong, it boils down to "trial and error"... or at least thats my take on it. Within the last year I have been updating my HT as I have it to where I like it now BUT... I do realize its always a work in progess. Confused yet?? LOL I guess the best advise I can give would be buy the set up within your budget/means at the present time because you more than likley will upgrade in the future. I have somewhat a same floor plan as you have mentioned as its hard to fill such a large area. My HT area is 15x25 but opens up to the kitchen and entraceway + office in the back portion. So if you can imagine this, the HT area is 15x25, Kitchen is 15 x 22 and entrance with office (one wall) is about 16 x 20. Heres what I would do if I were you (... just a suggestion thou ) Provide yourself a firm budget ( you can alwys upgrade later, this "hobby can get very expensive real fast ) lol Look for larger mains & center ( L/C&R) as it will give a much better HT soundstage As far as surrounds go if you have room you can go towers as well but using smaller bookshelfs and such will be fine as most of the main concern is up front. * Remeber this; usally bigger is better You can always look into used as I found a pair of KG 5.5's off CL pretty cheap ( love them btw) * I will have to check back in later sorry.... as I have to head out to work. Jeff
  20. I am not a professional by no means (nor do I ever claim to be ) but here is "my person thought" given the question at hand. IF...IF i had the space & money to match all the speakers (5.1/ 7.1) I would more than likely do it! BUT... given from what I have experienced as within my own set up I do believe it doest not matter as much. I have smaller speakers such as the Klipsch SLX as surrounds but I do have towers as rear surrounds as the sound if great for my HT area
  21. Cant wait to hear some feedback on the new 15, not to mention some pro reviews.
  22. The Bic Pl-200 will be a vast improvement over the current sub you have now. I use to have an Onkyo HTIB set up a ways back as when I replaced that sub with the Bic its was pretty much a night and day differnace... in my case anyhow. To be honest thou, moving up with eighter a Bic, Klipsch or even a decent Polk will give you a major improvement or the current sub. If you want/need a subwoofer now then the Bic PL-200 would be a great way to go. If you are patient enough I do believe the Klipsch goes on sale quite a bit, or at least that I have seen within the past few months anyhow. Or as someone suggested, you can save a bit more money as then get into say a larger Klipsch, HSU, SVS and such....just a thought thou.
  23. Well, its kinda hard to say really.... in essence yes. it can hold its own to a point. It sounds as if you have somewhat a room layout as mine. My HT area is 16 x 25 in which 16 x 18 would be the seating area. It opens up to the kitchen area in the back portion as that room is even larger than the HT area. THe HT area has only 9ft in height accept the kitchen has about a 20 or so. I did run one Bic Pl-200 at first. I had it corner loaded as it suited me for about 3/4 months. I then got "the bug" to add another as i placed it in the back portion of the HT area about 7/8 ft away from the seating area. The front Bic sub was about 15ft away from seating area. I would say it filled in most the gaps and gave it a much better listing area. So... one is fine but two are better ( I'm sure the wife does not want to hear that ) lol. At the present time I am running a Premiere Acoustic PA-150 sub. Its a 15" sub that can hold its own IMHO... for now that is. Since I got my KG 5.5's I have no room in the front as I run the sub in the back portion. In the future I plan on adding another sub as well, something like the new Klipsch SW-115 that was just released or maybe a HSU or such. I was in contact with a guy on AVS awhile back that has two Bic Pl's and also bought the Klipsch Rw-12 ( i think thats what it was anyhow) as he bought it from NewEgg that was selling them for $300 shipped. Anyhow, he can me a bit of the run down to his opinion on both. He mentioned the Klipsch had a slight advantage overall but it was close. To him the Bic had "maybe" a better bottom end but Klipsch was a better performer for both HT & music. So since I have never had the Klipsch 12 I cant compare myself. It does seem that most would reccomend the Klipsch R-12 over the Bic if it can be had for $300, so you may want to take that into concideration. I'm not sure if any of this may help, but I thought I would at least give my experiance & thoughts anyhow. Jeff
  24. Thank you for the feedback! I too have been thinking about adding an external amp to my HT but the advise I received my many on the AVS fourm pretty much mentioned it would be a wate of time/money as it wount make a differnace unless it were to listen at high levels, good to know it does make a differnace. I have an Onkyo 808 as it does quite well but after getting a pr of KG 5.5's it seems as if there isnt enough "power" per say to run them.... or at least to me that is.
