  1. Yeah Mike at Quick Silver played a nice one with those horn mono amps. I bet the amplifiers have just as much "amplifier" noise as any other decent tube amp. Raising the input sensitivity to 6 volts will make any preamp a top notch performer in the noise department.
  2. Not in at least couple years. He refers customers to repair his Juicy Music and Paragon stuff often. But I have not spoken to him in a long time.
  3. That is really good deal on this amplifier. I'm not at my shop this weekend but looking at it I do recall this project. I sold this amp to whomever you purchased it from. I bought that amp believe it or not used the output transformers to salvage a customers family treasure X202B that had a shorted transformer. This X202B for sale here was in great shape so I outfitted with some really nice new Heybour wound ultra linear output transformers I had wound. The amp was also completely electrically restored so it should provide many years of trouble free use...
  4. The hoot is the fact that he bothered showing how to tension a modern socket that almost never needs tensioning. The big offenders are the 8 pin vintage and modern along vintage 9 pin sockets (mostly in high heat output tube locations) which are all different then the socket shown.
  5. keep or sell them is up to you but please never do the automated picture thingy...it annoying as all get out. I wanted to take a close look at the speakers and could not figure out a way to stop it from changing photos every split second.
  6. Is that a fat finger typo? well on second thought that would be strange since Y is so far from L on the keyboard
  7. If directed at me..... I guess my posting style is a complete success...
  8. No problem. I commend you for not pointing fingers after all it take two to tango!
  9. Oh gosh I feel so threatened someone please help me I might start to cry any minute......
  10. Guy! Where the heck have you been? Good to see you posting. Craig
  11. You know just because the newspaper lands in your lawn you are not required to read it....
  12. Mat, I commend you for coming here and attempting to clear the air..sorry to say your very long reply still does nothing to justify the claim in my above post. "Original created Harry Weisfeld long time family friend Steve Leung (VAS) collaborated together to bring back one of their favorites, the Scott 299D integrated amp" I realize you acknowledge you no nothing about amplifiers... Well I believe I know a little bit about amplifiers and especially about vintage Scott amplifiers...I have no problem with you or VPI stating there new amplifier was "inspired" by listening to the original Scott 299D....but that is not what the above advertising pitch states...it stated VPI brought back the Scott 299D... The fact of the matter is your VPI amplifier is most likely a much better amplifier...but by the same token it has almost nothing in common with the original 299D your advertisement states you have brought back..... The quick and easily descernable but very important differences Scott 299D ran the output tubes in pentode mode only The VPI amplifier runs them in Ultra linear or triode....VERY DIFFERENT Scott 299D utilized a compact 7591 output tube. VPI utilized EL34/KT88 again VERY DIFFERENT Scott 299D front end small signal tubes 4- 12AX7 and 2- 6U8 VPI front end is just 4 12AU7 tubes which to me means it most likely does not have a tube based phono section...along with the inherent difference of 12AU7 compared to 12AX7. The driver phase inverter has to be very different then the 6U8 Scott utilized... I'm sorry but the advertising story just doesn't mesh with the facts... But beyond that it does look like a fine product... Cheers Craig.
  13. Okay Maynard explain in detail how they have accomplished this statement? "Original created Harry Weisfeld long time family friend Steve Leung (VAS) collaborated together to bring back one of their favorites, the Scott 299D integrated amp"
  14. Hey no problem exists between us. I actually appreciate your acknowledgement that I indeed have a right to my opinion. Many folks seem to think because I'm in the audio business I should forfeit or surrender that becoming some type of puppet that only states the most politically correct crap to make the all mighty dollar... To me that is flat out hypocrisy...reminds me of a slimy used car salesman... Again folks need to realize I'm not here to create or promote my business I'm here as a person just like some of you I already have plenty of work without doing a thing to go out a get it.
  15. Just to be clear.....I HAVE NEVER SAID ONE THING IN REFERENCE to the quality or lack there of on this product. The only thing I have stated is the advertising and story line is a complete crock of shit! In fact I told the OP that I bet the product is darn nice. VPI never sells or markets low end/low quality gear but just like the majority of 21st century companies they evidently could careless what tactics they use to market the products. READ Folks but don't read things into someones words that are just not present. read, read, read..... but not between the lines. I bet the amplifier is darn nice and could have been marketed on its own merits rather then a completely different product in every regard.
  16. As they say I am what I am....straight shooter all the way..... at this stage of the game with my absolute astonishing success in my little home based business I see no reason to change for the few faint at heart, hold there hands, high maintenance politically correct crowd that I'd rather not have for customers in the first place! I call them like I see them! Besides this forum is a form of relaxation and has nothing to do with business promotion those days are and have been long gone....the only ones getting away with that these days are the weak at heart hypocrites that use the forum to promote there hobby businesses that they don't have the balls to make a real business.
  17. Maynard First off mind your own business...you are not in anyway my keeper, adviser or whatever it is you think your are.... I never bashed the product I bashed the blantantly false advertising claims... You know what.....if you don't like it don't read it.. Consider this your official warning. Bother me again and I will complain to the moderators. GOT IT
  18. Smells awful Chinese to me....I take it the head phone is derived from the secondary of the output transformer and it has tone controls so that makes it 299D inspired...what a crock of shit!
  19. Yeah well it seems moral fiber is a thing of the past too! The days we live in...
  20. I think you have that list backwards....
  21. What's wrong is its complete BULLSHIT that amplifier HAS NOTHING IN COMMON with a Scott 299D...I MEAN NOTHING
