  1. I have the XPA 5 and with klf 30's, 20's all around no buzz at all.Ive ran them with balanced and unbalaned interconnects and never had a buzz issue. My xbox 360 slim will produce a buzz if I am not careful placing the power cable away from the gear(xbox 360 power cord not sheilded well aparaently)
  2. ya, my late 01 klf 30's glue is great. Had to rebuild the 20's. The 20's sound good, but I realized how bad the stock tweeters are vs the titanium diaphrams I replaced on the 30's
  3. I,may do this. liquid nails too thick!!
  4. I mighbuy liquid nails & poor dow n int o slots on front baffle & into rear slots that pl premium didnt squash out & fill.. If I owned a nail gun I would trim the rest of the insides with some wood strips too
  5. lol, a razor blade went through my finger while scrapping glue. Had to go get stitches, lovely. Anyway, the front was still ok, so I PL premium around it anyway. The back I had to remove. I cleaned off glue & the n I PL premium the outer ledge and layed the back panel back on & seated it(I dont own clamps). Anyway the glue was put on heavy & it seams to have filled nicely, even squised out on the sides a bit if you look down into the rear panel side slots. After 24 hrs, I will glue rear panel on inner side to & put drivers & foam back in. I PL premium every single seam & corner because I dont ever want to do this again, lol
  6. The ti rweeter diaphrams made a huge difference for me. These things sound so good. Way better then they should at their prices. However, the poor glue issue really sucks
  7. Do I need to scrap off old glue? What is the easiest way....gasket scrapper? Also , is PL premium the best adhesive to use? Thanks for any help. I hhave everything apart, going back together tomorrow
  8. Hard to say, a few say the ti kipsch mids are another level(moorey james). OthersI have read from state they made the speaker too relaxed. Personally, I might like a more relaxed sound if the dynamics are still there. By the end of the year I should have the Klipsch ti mids to try in my klf 30.
  9. Let me know what you find out on vent tuning. these klf 30's should be hitting in the 28hz range with these high qaulity 12" drivers and large cabinet IMO. Regarding the bass: When I bought these speakers I thought I'd have to pul them out from the wall to keep from a muddy sound. For what ever reason putting these close to the wall(about 6 inches!) has tightened them up and made them cleaner. never experienced this with a speaker. Loving these things!
  10. I am interested in upgrading my KLF 30's midrange. I read all the past threads on this, but there was no clear cut way to go in terms of stock, crites, or Klipsch. The tweeters sound fantastic after installing the titanium diaphrams from Crites. I was wondering what is the latest on midrange? Is it best to go with Crites midrange diaphrams, or the titanium from Klipsch? Is the Crites midrange diaphrams a major upgrade from the stock? Is the crites diaphramn made of the same materia as stock? I am liking these speakers, but I notice the midrange gets a bit harsh, specially when pushed to around 90+db's or more from 9ft. I want to clean them up. If I do upgrade with the Klipsch TI diaphrams, I am under the impression I have to also get some cross over work done by bob crites? If anyone has had this done, can they please explain what diaphrams are the best. Also, please let me know how much of a improvement or change there was and what exactly the differences were sound wise. Thanks so much!
  11. Everything from Jazz, light rock, blues to hip hop.
  12. Man, if someone sold one of these, I'd be all over it.I'm not of a DIY guy myself, but I'd love to buy one from someone.
  13. Hello. Just wondering if the KLF C7 is any good, or should I look for another center? I am using KLF 30's as mains. I don't have room for a 3rd floorstander as center. What ever I use can't be more then 14 inches tall. Cab be long though. Thx for any help!
  14. Happy birthday Bob! Love these titanium diaphrams on the KLF 30. Thanks for everything
  15. I bought some KLF 30's about a week ago. I liked them very much, but they were rolled off too fast for my taste. I bought the Bob Crites titanium diaphram ($58 shipped for the pair)and now these things just sound amazing for their price. I've had speakers from $600-$7500 and these are awesome speakers, lets put it that way. I would recommend looking for a late model, as there are improvements not found in old models. Mine are 2001's and they have the 3 braces inside and foam too. The old ones I believe had none, and then they slowly added more braces in as time went on. This is what I have read about the KLF 30. I am sure someone who has been with klipsch speakers for along time could tell you better about the changes. The titanium diaphrams are a must IMO. Seams like most are buying them, because it is a big upgrade, and little money. I will say for my money, nothing I know of will beat these speakers in all they do. I prefer theLegacy Focus 20/20's slightly, but those cost me $7k new. Hard to believe they offer so much the Focus did, and under 1k with upgrades, etc. I can't say if Crites cross overs, and mid diaphrams are any good, cause I haven't tried them yet.
  16. Just installed the titanium diaphrams about a hour ago. So glad I bought these! Thanks so much to Moorey James for recommending the new titanium diaphrams. I have to say I had my doubts, but these are so much more improved then the sound I was getting before(not that it was bad, just that much better). Now they are extended as a speaker should be, and I also have noticed the harsh sound I was hearing is gone. Must have been the tweeters and not the mids after all. Can't say thanks enough to Bob Crites. I feel like I am hearing these speakers how they were intended to sound. I am not a tweaker at all, but this has actually got me curious about crites cross overs, etc too. Couldn't be happier! If you have been thinking about upgrading your tweeter diaphrams on these KLF speakers, trust me you won't be dissapointed. For anyone with critical ears, the difference is pretty big in my personal opinion. Edit** Left them play all day, just sat down and listened again. these are incredible. So smooth. I actually prefer the grills off now. I'm going to look into the ti mids (klipsch) and cross overs (bob crites). These are shaping up to being some of the best speakers ive ever owned.
  17. I agree Magnepans have a small sweet spot, although the new 1.7's are better at this. I havent heard the Heritage line. I have the Klipsch KLF 30's. They are a late 2001 mode though with improved cabinet bracing, etc. I have some titanium tweeters arriving Friday. Maybe that will clean them up a bit more. They are excellent speakers, but IMO I feel Magnepans, and Paradigm Signature s2 V1's for example are cleaner for their price points. That doesn't mean I prefer them to the Klipsch though. Hopefully I can grab some Heritage speakers soon and see what all the fuss is. I'm sure they are excellent.
  18. I like my Klipsch very much, but they are in no way clearer then magnepans. Not even close IMO. They do play louder and have better bass though.
  19. If the new tweeter doesnt help, I may play around with the eq more.Would rather get the speaker smooth without eq if possible.
  20. Just ordered the titanium tweeters after talking with Bob. I told him I was able to get the sound i was looking for by boosting the manual eq in my prepro by +2 db at 20khz. I know it's only 2db, but it makes a huge difference with cymbols, hi hats, and such instruments. Also the imaging is a huge improvement. Aso, the mids are so harsh. I had a feeling the roll off was the reason these speakers sounded a little dull and slightly harsh. If the new tweeters sound as good as the stock with a +2 db bump at 20khz I'm going to be thrilled! Anyway, he did say the new titanium diaphrams would give me extended range I am looking for....just as Moorey james also stated. I'll post back when I get them installed. Thx!
  21. I went ahead and went inside the mid driver and corrected the gasket. Its even on all sides now, but I think what the problem really was is that this gasket is too big when you tighten it down. It fits perfectly until you touch and tighten the housing and then it kind of mushrooms bigger. Actually, it now looks exactly like all the other photo's Ive seen of the Klipsch klf 30....but in the other speaker I own, the gasket is almost flush with the throat of the housing(less then what photo's show). I guess it doesn't matter. I couldn't hear any difference from before and after I fixed these, accept for "possibly" a bit more mid range sound coming through. Hard to say for sure. I may take a knife and trim it down to match. Not sure yet. I'm going to order the titanium tweeter diaphrams. Reason is because the thing I like least about these speakers is they roll off slightly too fast, and also the mid range driver is a slight bit harsh/horn sounding. Hopefully the titanium tweeter will not only give me extended range, but maybe even take some of the harsh mid sound away. If so, this is going to be one heck of a speaker. I already love it for what it can do that most speakers cannot.
  22. I might just leave them be. I couldn't tell a difference either. I'm running these with grills on(test both on and off though), so it's not a big deal. if I take the grills off, i might center them up so they look nice. I'm glad they were like that already. I was mostly worried one might have slipped while they were turned on their sides. As long as the driver isn't loose, I guess it will be fine. Suprised Klipsch didnt go with black gaskets, lol. They must have been trying to compete with cerwin vegas orange rings-jk. MJ- Thanks for all that info. I might have to try some diaphram replacements. For $60, not much risk I guess. I could always go back to the originals.
  23. The Paradigm 20 V2 speakers are pretty special speakers. IMO for $350 used it's hard to pass them by without a listen. I didn't like the V3 series and sold my 100 V'3 not long after I picked a pair up off audiogon. I'm really liking these klf 30's. *I do have one concern with these KLF-30's. I did notice one of the speakers have a orange like gasket that isn't centered in the midrange correctly(the other speakers orange gasket is perfectly centered). In fact, it's almost half way off center and covers almost half of the driver. Is there any way to repair this? I did a A/B test between the right and left speakers, but didn't notice any sound differences like I expected to. Anyway, if it's a easy fix, I would dive in and fix it just for peace of mind. Also, what exactly do the tweeter diaphrams do? Do I have to buy new corssovers too, or will they work fine without it? Also, what are the chances of the diaphram rear side gasket ripping if I try to tackle the diaphrams? If the gasket does rip, are there replacement gaskets? Just trying to cover myself from damaging these speakers if I do decide to upgrade them. Thx!
  24. Well, had these for a few days now. I was very suprised to see the KLF 30's produce 20HZ with a Wav test. Actually, it will play 20hz very loudly if cranked. Too bad they rolled off the speaker so quickly. Edit*Bob crites tweeters help the roll off.
  25. Chipbyrd, try the diaphrams from crites! Are you using the supplied floor spikes? If not, that would help a lot!(your photo's don't show them) Hope someone with longer experience with this speaker can help you get these right for you. I know they have so much to offer. These speakers were sold to me by Randy (above post ) and are simply magic. They are a later 2001 model, not sure if anything was changed on these through the years or not.
