    WTF ?

Can't help but agree. If someone wants to ask a million bucks for a pair of Cornwalls, is it crazy? Yea. Is it my business? No. Am I going to buy them? No. Am I going to write on his thread how crazy he is? No. Maybe just a comment that the speakers look nice and move on, OR, SINCE I HAVE NO INTEREST IN THEM, NO COMMENT AT ALL. Its the usual suspects, always the same 2 or 3 rattling off the comments and quips. Well, I guess now that I am thinking about it, it really seems to be 1 person and he jumped on this thread pretty quick. It does suck for the person selling though....almost like sabotage. Its not very warm and inviting to people who are new to the forum, I'll tell you that....good way to run people off.
  2. I don't get it. Hmm... Ok, I'll go about this like assuming you don't know who Elijah Wood is, which is certainly possible. The t shirt he is wearing in the photo Alex posted is a re-issue of the one Klipsch made in the 70's (around there, I assume. Maybe later?). That shirt featured a hobbit from Lord of the Rings sitting on a La Scala speaker. Random, I know, but it was cute. This interaction began a couple months ago, when Elijah posted on twitter that he is enjoying his vintage La Scala speakers. Elijah played Frodo Baggins, the hobbit in the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies. We responded to him with a picture of the shirt, and he really wanted one. We had one made, then decided to make the reissue available to everyone. Once he received it, he posted that picture of him sitting on his La Scala, much like the hobbit is in the t shirt design. There you go. Now you know the rest.....of the story. A little love for Paul Harvey sprinkled in there. Nice.
  3. agree. I mean it's sweet that someone with tons of money uses klipsch, but man I sure would buy some brand new walnut lsii's if I had the dough. You really think he would spring for some K-horns. I respect the decision though. Where's the nostalgia in the lsii's??
  4. Did we ever determine what speakers the OP has?
  5. Here's some photos of the mod I did tonight. I am not an expert and I don't claim to be!! It is my understanding that this mod reduces the impedance of the horn from 2ohms to 1.67ohms, greatly reducing the shrillness, if not eliminating it. I took out the horn, (I used a screwdriver for leverage to depress the horn contacts to remove the wires), and the top driver to remove all the wires so I could pull out the crossover. I hot glued the new resistor onto the bottom 2ohm resistor and folded the leads underneath and soldered them to the existing solder dots attached to the original resistor. Its an extremely easy mod and took MAYBE 30 min per speaker. I went slow and took my time. This was actually quite fun and I am absolutely floored at the difference it made in these speakers. These speakers are every bit as smooth as my RF-83's were. This may sound odd but I am really appreciating the lows more, I think the brightness took away from the low end. Just my opinion. I am extremely satisfied with this modification and it was well worth the time and effort. I'm not sure who came up with this modification but I know I cannot take credit for it. Thanks to everyone for their input and help! You will need a soldering iron, some 60/40 rosin core solder, a hot glue gun and glue sticks, phillips head screwdriver and a torx bit screwdriver.
  6. Anyone know what year they started making the Cornwall grill removable?
  7. I paid $850 for mine and the guy had the boxes.
  8. Its a great series. So is the Hobbit. Great movies for the whole family actually!
  9. When introducing some new speakers or other equipment into the system, what Cd's do you use as reference Cd's for auditioning? I use a Willie Nelson Cd titled "Spirit", and Bela Flecks "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" (Thanks Mr. Crites)....just to throw a couple out there.
  10. I have yet to hear one of these. Do they carry a warmer sound? I guess what I am trying to ask is does it sound more like an amp/preamp seperates combo than a receiver? If that makes sense....
  11. I can see that. In my opinion the amount of foam inside the cabinet is insufficient. Anything extra should be an improvement. Where you are talking about, on the spokes of the driver, your absorbing a lot right at the source!
  12. Yea Ive seen them for a while but recently I got into a deal where I ended up with an iphone so I got one....up until a few days ago I had no experience with it.
  13. What a great tool. A horn for the iPhone. Amazing what a difference this thing makes. Cheap and works great. Klipsch should make one shaped like the 60 x 90 tractrix horns! Get 'er done, Amy!!
  14. Happier???? Corrected! I could not be happier!!
  15. I have not had a chance to do the resistor mod but I have put the sound deaden-er on the horn. I went with a product called ballistic. Its a sound deaden-er that's adhesive on one side and foil on the other. It comes in a 2 pack, 2 10" x 10" sheets per pack and its around $20. I used the template the fellow from youtube provided and it worked great. I could not be happier with the results. I took an audio file of the before and after "tap" test and the results are blatantly obvious. I sent both files to my sister who, "cant get over how good her TV speakers sound", and even she noticed the glaring difference. Its amazing that such a simple improvement can make such a difference. I'm really anxious to do the resistor mod now! The photos are of the horn with the ballistic mat on them, the template I used and the product I used. You should be able to just save the template image and print it, it prints to scale, if your interested.
  16. I really appreciate all the input. I'll post my thoughts after the resistor and horn dampening mods.
  17. I think I am reading it right that the driver has a sensitivity of 98db @ 1watt/m? I can't tell if there is wattage there or not.
  18. Hey Dean....I'd be all in on that but I have NO idea what all I need to replace the existing equipment. Carl turned me on to the resistors or else I would have no idea about those!!
  19. Very true. Nothing permanent if its not liked.
