  1. Hey guys, Thanks for the kind words. Been kinda busy this summer and haven't had a chance to finish them. I'll get around to it next month when things slow down a little. I've tried to keep the Heritage look and not go to far over the top.The woofers I used are the Pioneer A30Gu40-51D from Parts Express. The mid is a Selenium D405Ti 2" Titanium w/ a p-audio knock-off horn from Goldwood. The tweeter is a Jbl 2404. The crossover is ALK's ES700 design. ES7500 to be added soon. I love the way they sound. The bottom end (40 to 100hz) is alittle weak at low volume, but when played around 90db or higher they really shine. I tried several different mids and the 405 got my vote. None of them really had the sparkle I wanted so I decided to add a tweeter and that did the trick. I have been working on the upper grills but don't quite have the right design worked out yet. This has really been a fun project....so far. Big D
  2. My Jubilee clones definitly have more slam(crossed at 700hz)and the lows are down a few db. Now my Khorns and belle are doing theater duty. More on the Jubilee when they are completely finished. Big D
  3. Hi All, Has anyone put their TV on top of a Belle? Just thought I'd ask before I tried it. Not sure if I need any kind of shielding. I'm trying to tighten things up in my living. With a pair of Khorns,Jubilee clones, a Belle and 5 hereseys it's a little crowded. Thanks, Darrell P.S. Forgot to add both the tweeter and midrange are alnico.
  4. Usually I set aside Tuesday Night as music night. No movies, no TV, no computer. I get about 4 hours of really serious listening (plus about 20 hours of mindless listening per week).
  5. I have to agree with most of the above. MAC SS really sounds great.I use a 2105, 2100 and an MC50. They will make your horns sing.
  6. Marvel, You And Barbara will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope things work out for her and that recovery is quick and painless. Keep the family close and let them know you love them. Best wishes, Big D
  7. Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday to you...Happy Birthday dear......I heard this yesterday on my B-day. I turned 47..Enjoy 15 as long as you can. Cancers Rule Big D
  8. Excellent work! Bet they sound wonderful. Glad I could help. You'll get a great feeling of satisfaction everytime you listen to them. I know I do. Best Regards, Big D
  9. I am curious. Is the pair your looking at Heresy I or II? What is the finish? Big D
  10. Palm sanders can be aggressive, even with a fine grit paper. Personally I would use a sanding block. A piece of 5 inch 2x4 with the paper wrapped around it would work fine. There are sanding sponges made with a 400 grit side...Works well in corners too. Big D
  11. Thanks for the break-in info. Now that you mention it these old 807's are starting to mellow out a little but still lacking in the upper range. I would estimate I've got about 70 hrs on them now. Big D

  13. D-Man, Just ordered 2 of the Goldwood horns and 2 Selenium D405Ti drivers From PE (I know they're cheapos but I've got to start somewhere). Their return policy is a good one. If I don't like the drivers They can be returned within 45 days...no questions asked. Guess I'll try a few different ones until I find one I like. I want to address the network positioning question. I thought about attaching it to the back panel. Now, here is a real stupid question..Will the magnetic field of the woofers effect the inductors on the network in any way? I moved the Jubilee clones passed the TV and really distorted the picture. That tells me the field is pretty strong. Any thoughts? Big D
  14. I'd like to stay 2-way if at all possible. The altec 807's I'm using now drop like a stone after 12khz. I'd like to get it up to at least 15khz. I've been looking at the jbl 2426. Even though the specs say they go up to 20khz they start dropping around 15khz which is about right for me. Your right JBL is spendy. May have to go one at a time. Big D
  15. I'm using AL's ES700 2-way network. It works well with the bass bin. Just need a better top end driver. Big D
  16. Ah So...What are you using on the top-end? Big D
  17. D-Man, How about posting another pic of your cabs. Big D
  18. Sorry about my terminology.. I was thinking about reflections. Now the Jubilee has a hatch on the top and bottom. So your saying I only need it just inside the bottom hatch...Right? Big D
  19. I am assuming the wood you are finishing is raw, even if it isn't,Use a primer. It will fill in all the imperfections in the wood and give a good surface for the paint to adhere to. You want the finish coat to sit on top of the primer, not soak into the wood. I have found that oil-based Kilz is a good product for priming wood and it's not expensive and it also dries fast. A quart should be plenty. Use 2 coats if you feel it's necessary. You can add up to 1/4 of an ounce of color to the kilz(let the paint store do that) and still get a good result. This will bring it up to a medium gray. Then you'll only need 2 finish coats instead of 3. ALWAYS sand between each and every coat with 400 grit sandpaper and use a tac-rag to remove any dust residue. If you have a spray gun..USE it. If not, Make sure you thin the paint(not the primer) with paint thinner just a little. This will allow the paint to go on easier and allow the brush or roller marks to flow out as it dries. Several thin coats are better than one heavy one. Just my 2 cents, Big D
  20. Hi All, I was thinking about lining the inside roof of the doghouse in the jubilee clones. This is an acoustic wall carpet and it has a very good damping factor and is only 3/16 thick. It has a sprayed-on latex backing, so it can be glued or stapled. I hung this in the pilots briefing theater on Pope Airforce Base and it completely cut out all the echo in the room. My question is...do you all think this will be to much damping or should I try something less aggressive? Big D
  21. OK here goes and don't tell anybody. This happens only during the day when I'm home from work early and the neighbors are still at work. I live on a quiet little cul-de-sac..you get the picture. Everybody knows everybodies business. First it's... Forget me nots- Patrice rushen Boogie oogie oogie- taste of honey Le freak-chic ETC. ETC. I DJed at a few of the local clubs in the 70's and still can't get this crap out of my head. Does bring back a few memories though. OH THE SHAME! Big D
  22. Hi All, Been listening to my jubilee clones for about 2 weeks now. I am stoked with the bass bins. It's the top end that needs a little work. Can't do anything about it right now. Trying to recover financially from the initial build. Took 6 1/2 sheets of plywood,3 boxes of screws and 2 bottles of glue, not to mention hardware(bolts, nuts, washers,etc.). I think I have enough scrap left to do some sort of upper cab for the horns. The horns are just sitting on top of the bass bin for now. It may sound better if they where attached. A question was asked about the woofers in the commercial version. I called Klipsch and asked for Jubilee replacement woofers. The number they gave me was the same one used in the KLF-30 and costs $129 ea..It also has a foam surround like the pioneers I used. Big D
  23. TWH, Very Nice Indeed! Is that stone? A work of art. Big D
