  1. "are SVS overpriced or is it just me?" It's just you.
  2. Should make for an excellent HT. The one thing I have a comment about is the receiver, I've never seen the value in flagship receivers. While the 5803 is an outstanding receiver, it's quite pricey. I just checked the price at Crutchfield and it's over $4300. For around $4k I this is what I would do: $1400 Rotel RSP-1066 (not too sure on the price but it should be close) $989.95 Parasound HCA-1205A (140Wx5) http://shop.store.yahoo.com/1bestbuyelectronics/parhca11.html $445.89 Parasound HCA-1000A (120Wx2) http://shop.store.yahoo.com/1bestbuyelectronics/parhca1.html This comes close to $2850 which is a good bit away from the crutchfield price. On top of this, I would also add a Philips Pronto and another pair RS-7's for 7.1. What do the rest of you guys think?

I emailed him about something else and asked a question about it's output vs. Ultra's and that's what he responded with. I don't see any reason why he would lie.

I was going to get (my dad was) dual CS Ultras for his room... but now one of these... and what would be the price diiference with amp? <[/font> ---------------- From Ron at the HTF post: "Pre-orders for those of you with at least $2K or so (not counting amp) burning a hole in your pocket" "Just a rough order of magnitude is around $3.5K with Crown K1 as an entry level power source."
  5. I read in a magazine that the SD6200(don't know if it's still available) has the same video/audio section as the flagship SD9200. It just doesn't have the extrodinary build quality of the 9200. If that's true then it would be a no brainer for me. I have the 9200 and it's video and audio are top notch. It's one of the few pieces that has been constant in my evolving system. On ebay they've been sold under $200! If you want current models, I'd probably pick the SD4800.
  6. A few weeks ago I went to a Tweeter in VA because I wanted to do a comparo between the Denon 3803 and Sony DA4ES. They didn't have the Denon 3803 in stock so I asked when it would be in. Salesman's reply was "It's coming in next week but we won't put it out until all the 3802's are gone. That might take up to a year from now and Denon will probably have a new receiver by then, so you may never get to hear it. You might as well just get the Sony today because it'll be so long." I said I didn't belive that and I bet that Tweeter probably wants a poplular receiver like that on the floor so people can hear it. The salesman just shrugged his shoulders and I said I could be right. I couldn't believe how stupid a lie that was. I left after that because I couldn't deal with someone that stupid.
  7. Here's some info. someone posted at HTF: ************************************************************ >>>Any new info on the "SuperSVSub"? I'm hearing scary stuff...and I cannot wait.<<< TomV, We are hoping to have some pictures and full details up on the website in a few days. This puppy is fairly large, heavy and it will be expensive(at least by SVS standards)...but it was also approching 130dBs at 2m in ground plane testing (peak output) with <10%thd and will have a user definable FR(freq-response) in the 7-150hz range in the typical room. TV "The unit will have user adjustable tuning(ala' PC+ for example). In maximum extension mode...it will extend down to the 6-9hz range in the typical room. In maximum output mode(tuned around 25hz)...it approaches 130dBs. Like all subs, as you tune it lower(increase extension) you'll trade off a bit of maximum output capabilities at each tuning step. It will be a passive enclosure that we will package with a large amp and a parametric EQ(or you can purchase the subwoofer itself separately)." ************************************************************
  8. www.crazyeddie.com has the SPL1200 cheaper than the SPL800 at www.onecall.com. I've never dealt with them so I can't comment on their service: Velodyne SPL1000 $689.95 Velodyne SPL1200 $785.95 I've never looked into Velo pricing before but that's a hell of a lot of performance for the price(in micro sub world).
  9. I had problems with my LF-10 and had to go through 4 replacements before I got a working one. I wanted to yell at the first person I got on the phone every time but everyone was so nice to me I just had to be nice in return.
  10. TheEar, That's why I said it's probably not a possibility since he's considering something as small as the SPL800. I just think that it's a great deal if size is not an issue(ignore DIY as well). I also didn't say that the SVS is a microsub, you'd have to be pretty crazy to consider even a 25-31 small. You said the SVS isn't a good choice, is that just because of the size or for another reason. I've heard it in my HT it's quite a potent sub.
  11. This is probably out of the question if you're looking at something as small as the Velodyne but if it's a possibility, you could get something like a SVS 20-39PC Plus. Not sure what a good price is but I saw the Velo. for $899 shipped at onecall.com. The 20-39PC Plus would be cheaper than that shipped and it would outperform that Velo in every way. If you can't go vertical, maybe you could lay it down on the floor, like behind a couch or something. Tom V. said there's no problem with doing this as long as the amps are faced upwards to allow for cooling. Well there's my push for SVS. If you must go for a micro sub, I think the best value in micro sub world is the Carver Knight Shadow. I'm not sure where to get it new but there one on ebay right now. I've seen new ones go new on ebay with "buy it now" prices around $600. It's cheaper than the Sunfire Junior and has greater output.
  12. I think some people just like the convenience of everything built in to one unit.
  13. If you're ready to make a decision, there is one SVS 25-31CS Plus in the b-stock section for only $475 plus S&H(which is surpisingly low, only $18 to my house). http://svsubwoofers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SSL&Category_Code=B-stock Couple that with the 250 watt Parts Express for around $120 and you can stay within budget and get a higher line SVS than you were initially looking at. Also, with the 25-31CS Plus you can choose a tuning of 25hz or 20hz by simply inserting the included port plug. If it was me, I'd act fast before someone else snags this gem of a subwoofer.
  14. I thought Klipsch gave a 5 year warranty not 3 year. Am I right or wrong?
  15. Congrats, I own the same speaker package. I think this link will be helpful: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?&postid=650553#post650553 I'm not sure if it'll go directly to the post, if not just go to the part that says: A Quick Overview of Home Theater Calibration Enjoy your speakers
  16. My mistake, for some reason I thought there was a greater price difference. At any rate, I'm just not a fan of the Quintets. I think a the NSP-1 system matched with the sub of your choice(mine wouldn't be the KSW series), would sound better than the Quintets.
  17. While the synergy sytem 6 is big jump in quality from the quintets it also costs significantly more. Instead of the quintet's I would go with JBL's NSP-1 package which IMO are far superior to the quintets. You can find them at Best Buy but can be found cheaper for $209 plus S&H at www.etronics.com Check out this this guys site from HTF, it has tons of info and reviews on JBL speakers, you'll see many people favorably review the NSP-1: http://www.geocities.com/p_iturra/
  18. Not sure where you live, but if you're close to MD go to a place called Soundworks. The owner(Mark) helped me and asked me if I'd been shopping the internet and if so what kind of pricing did I find. I told him yes and $1300 before shipping for the R*-3II system was the cheapest I found. He told he he could do it for $1350, this ended up saving me money because I didn't have to pay shipping for anything. Hope you live close to MD and if not it could be worth a drive. You can find them from Klipsch's dealer locator. Oh yeah, the city is Kensington.
  19. I use a HTR-5280 as a pre-pro for my Parasound HCA-855a. I have it hooked up to the Klipsch R*-3II system. When I moved a few months ago I packed up the Parasound and used the Yamaha amp. I really didn't like the sound at all. I just bought it because I I loved the sound of my previous RX-V995. It was very "bright" and "shrill" sounding. The amount of power isn't an issue, there was plenty there, but it didn't make a good match to my ears. I'm also not saying the it's a bad receiver, it just didn't match well with the Klipsch. Just try and demo as many speakers as possible. Try to buy from a place that has a return policy, so if you're not satisfied with the sound in your room you can return or exchange. As far as recommendations, the Klipsch R*-3II system would still be my choice.
  20. I agree. If you can go just a tad higher, the VTF-2 would be my choice. If not I still recommend the Infinity Interludes.
  21. Those connections should work fine, but after listening your ears may not.
  22. Like I said, I was only about 90% sure. Now I'm wondering where I got the figure from. I guess what I really need is another Ultra. For some reason I hate having an unused amp channel.
  23. I think a while ago I read a post on HTF where either Ron or Tom said something about a powered Ultra in the future. I'm about 90% sure they said it would have something like a 1075 watt amp so maybe it could benefit from more power. I have a single Ultra powered off one channel on my S1000. I was thinking to myself it could take a little more power because when I demo for friends my amp starts clipping before the driver hints at straining. Also keep in mind that this happens at volumes way past refernce, usually when I'm showing my system off to friends.
