  1. How about how does the Harman Kardon AVR-510/520 compare to those 2? I know the 510 is only 5.1 and the 520 is 7.1 but i got the 510 now and was wondering how it compared to the outlaw and 2802.. I almost got the Denon but decided to go with the HK for the price i got. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Harman Kardon AVR-510 Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 3. You have to have a little of both i would say. But to me the audio is more important. I can deal with a smallish screen ( hence my pos 27 inch ) for now but i would rather have better sound then video. But if the money was there i would say they both should be equal. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Harman Kardon AVR-510 Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 6. Cool I ended up selling my SONY Reciever on ebay. It sold in 1 day buy it now for 349.99 its only been used for a little while its a 2002 model and $20 shipping. I can ship for free from work. And i just located a Factory Refurbished Harman Kardon AVR-510 not the 520 or 320 i was looking for so it lacks Dolby Pro Logic II and 6.1 and 7.1 its got 5.1 all preamp outputs etc Im sure this will be fine for me. My Klipschs will be much happier now I think. Im picking up the HK for $370 refurbed + $30 shipping so $400 exact. At this price i dont think i could go wrong.. I could always wire up an old pro logic reciever to dupe up some 7.1 i think anyway. But Im not worried as of now since 5.1 is still the norm ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 7. What do you guys think of FACTORY REFURBISHED Products with a warranty from the MFR. Not third party refurbs. I can get an HK AVR-510 for cheap factory refurbed and basically new in box and also looking at some NAD Denon and other recievers this will allow me to afford a much better recievr than i can shell out the dough for. These are said to be in 100% new conditiion physically and refurbed by the factory to factory specs. Should I stay away from these or should i go for it and get a deal.. any help would be greatly apreciated. I have a couple deals that arnt gonna last long So please help asap if you can in any way thanks guys. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 11. Long before a certain ex-president appropriated it for his campaign slogans, Hope, Arkansas was known for two things: the world's biggest watermelons and Paul Klipsch. I've seen his speakers mentioned on the ng many times. Here's this: Paul W. Klipsch: 'Tinkerer' in audio, Klipschorn inventor CHUCK BARTELS THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Copyright © 2002 Associated Press. HOPE, Arkansas. Klipsch, who pioneered high-quality audio systems with the company he founded, died Sunday. He was 98. Klipsch became enamored with audio as a boy after his mother moved the family phonograph into a corner and the sound improved, according to a company spokesman. An engineer with patents in acoustics, ballistics and geophysics, Klipsch in 1946 founded the company that bears his name. Klipsch created a corner, horn-loaded speaker design that is still in production. The sound moves from the speaker and uses the walls of the room to effectively extend the horn, creating a rich sound that can emulate an orchestral setting. Born in Elkhart, Ind., in 1904, Klipsch was stationed at the Hope Proving Grounds during World War II. While in the Army there, he worked to refine the design of his folded corner woofer, the prototype of the "Klipschorn." He settled in Hope, where, after the war, he bought a building at the old proving grounds and manufactured his first Klipschorn. The building is now the Klipsch Museum of Audio History, with the current manufacturing plant nearby. The company now has its headquarters in Indianapolis. Klipsch Audio Technologies makes specialty speakers for the home, for computers and for commercial outlets, such as cinemas and Hard Rock Cafe. The company makes other electronics-related products as well. The son of a mechanical engineer, Klipsch built his first speaker at age 15, using a set of earphones and a mailing tube, a feat a company biography notes was accomplished a year before the first public radio broadcast. Klipsch went on to graduate from New Mexico State University (now home to the Klipsch School of Electrical & Computer Engineering), and earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. In 1981, he received a doctor of laws degree from New Mexico State University. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Klipsch worked for General Electric designing radios, and later he maintained electric locomotives in Chile for the company. After leaving Stanford, he worked in Texas as a geophysicist for an oil company. In the Army, he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel. Klipsch patented his loudspeaker design in 1945. Over the years, Klipsch received numerous honors, including his 1984 induction to the Audio Hall of Fame, and, in 1977, to the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame. The latter recognizes people whose work improved the human condition, and its roster includes Orville and Wilbur Wright, Thomas Edison and George Washington Carver. The company is now run by Fred S. Klipsch, a cousin to the founder. Company spokesman Joshua Hall said Sunday that Paul Klipsch had remained an important part of the firm. "He was a tinkerer all his life," Hall said. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 12. Whats up guys. My parents want to get a basic home theatre / 2 channel setup for there new room. Nothing crazy they were gonna go with a quintet setup but figured they would want something more musical. Most likely we will be going with a synergy 6 setup. Anyway I found a good receiver for them today i think and just wanted some opinions. I picked up a Harman Kardon AVR220 55wpc ultra high banwdth high voltage etc thats what there site says. MSRP was like $549 i picked it up New for 189+35 shipping Will the AVR220 power this setup pretty good? I know Klipsch's are very efficient i told to get this over a 100WPC Sony or pioneer like mine. That this would probaly sound better. Any input or opinions would help I hope myself to sell my sony reciever asap and get either a Harman, Denon , Outlaw, or NAD. Thanks for your time and comments. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 13. How are ya Randy and welcome to the forum.. You will find alot of help here. I have a pair of SB-3's And they are 17 inches tall and on 21 inch wood tech stands. I was told when I was searching that 38 inches was optimal. I Dont know off hand how tall the SB-2's are but wood tech makes a nice real wood stand with isolator rubber feet for where the woofer sits and also feet or spikes for the bottom. They match the synergys real nice and will only run your pocket around $75 - 80$ Heres a picture of my SB-3s on the stands Hope this helps its not the greatest picture. http://members.aol.com/onlyforthewww/ht.jpg Also heres wood tech's site http://www.wood-tech.com/ I have the hardwood Series ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 15. I would definatley like to thank everyone on this board esp the staff at klipsch who come and help us. This is a one of a kind board. Where you dont get ridiculed if you ask a newbie question etc or an off topic question. Most boards you bring up a brand that someone doesnt like and its all over they will start bad mouthing etc etc you have rude un educated people who make smart remarks etc etc This is one of my favorite places to come online and talk to people, educate myself, get ideas etc and when i post i know ill usually get an nice real deal answer or someone who will actually help me. I also belong to a car group online who all race in one form or another nissan sentra se-rs and cars powered by the same engine. And that mailing list and site www.se-r-list.org and www.se-r.net are just like this group we are a minority in the huge honda dominated car world but we have a good solid group mostly older crowd but very mature and willing to help each other. I have met many many people from that board and made tons of new friends outside of cars We have national meets speak with memebers of nissan north america and tons of the big guys in the industry are on the list. Its great to belong to a bunch like this were always having meets helpeing each other and thats how i feel this board is.. PWK Has a good product, good support and alot of supporters and followers im sure we make him proud! ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects R.I.P. 19. Yeah pretty much a reciever is an AMP/PREAMP/TUNER the amp is the power, the preamp is all the settings and the ability to switch between components and the tuner is for am/fm radio.. 20. I have synergy.. There no refrence but they are nice for the money .. I think of it this way compare Klipsch to mercedes ( the car co ) synergy beeing the lower model's but there still a benz u know.. SO even though its a lower model its still a high quality brand.. I would look into used KLF's maybe or either synergy's or reference bookshelves I wouldnt be suprised if the SB3 bookshelves ( synergy's with an 8 inch woofer ) were louder than the SF2 ( dual 6.5 tower synergy ) If setup with a nice stand. But if you could afford it i would def go with the RB3 or RB5 bookshelves and a nice sub.. My KSW does fine for a budget setup w/ the sb-3's Hope this helps. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects This message has been edited by QUiKSR20 on 05-03-2002 at 10:55 AM
  21. I first noticed this way back when .. When I changed over from the built in amp in my car to 3 sets of preamp outs from the headunit to a 5 channel amp. Now i was running a seperate amp rated at a mere 40watts rms ( Prescision Power amp to MB Quart seperates 6.5 ) and the speakers just came to life. Cant wait to be able to afford seperates in my home setup.. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects
  22. Quintet's are def not the best match for rears. But they do work And really arnt that bad. I for one personally havent heard SS1s for rears so maybe im missing more than i know but for my setup using the quintets for rears they sound good enough for me .. For now. I didnt have the money for ss1s but will upgrade to them soon when the funds are available. If you use quintets just raise the rear volume a little to balance it out. Thats what I did and it worked nice. Good luck with your choice. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects

  24. Yeah if anything it would decrease quality but.. The decrease you probaly wouldnt even notice. Its probaly so small.. Its main feature is for the OSD of the reciever and it lets the receiver act as a switch box for the video so all your video sources change with the audio ones this way you dont have to keep plugging and unplugging components. ------------------ Thanks, Daryl Gregg MY Home Theatre Page Sony STR-DE975 HT Reciever Sony DVP-NS400D DVD SB-3 Mains SC-1 Center Quintet Rears KSW-12 Sub AR Proseries Interconects
