  1. Bev, I am in the process of desigining my house right now. There are several things you can do insulation wise to help out with your electric and heating bills. One thing you can do, if your exterior walls are wood framing is use 2X6 instead of 2x4 studs which will allow you space to use extra insulation in the walls. Blown insulation in the attic is less expensve than batts but the down side is that it tends to be a pain if you uyse the attic for storage. Icyenene insualtion is, from what I've heard, a better insualtion but it is actually sprayed on the underside of the roof decking so if you ever have a leak and the wood decking gets damaged you must have that area resprayed after the wood is replaced. Blocking in the walls is a pretty good idea, but you will have to request it because it is not standard building practice to put blocking in unless there are cabinets or shelving going in. If you are building a house on a slab with no crawl space underneath you also might want to consider running your water lines in the attic instead of under the slab. If a pipe ever does break it will be much easier and cheaper to fix than a pipe under a concrete slab. Replacing drywall is cheap compared to jackhammering and replacing a section of concrete slab. Tom, metal studs do not rot or warp and of course do not get termites, but standard 25 ga. metal studs are nowhere near as rigid as wood. ------------------ Yamaha HTR-5150 SF-1 SC-1 SS-1 KSW-150
  2. Kevin, you will probably get a quicker answer if you post your question down in the Promedia section of the boards. Only a few of us posting here have the promedias (unfortunately I'm not one yet) and more HT people frequent this section of the boards.
  3. I read it on StarWarsFan.org . It was also carried on DVD Sewer . Usually when it hits DVD Sewer it is pretty reliable. You will need to search the March archives for the actual news.
  4. Jefnel1, rumor has it that Episode 1 will be out on DVD sometime this fall. Is that soon enough for you? :-)
  5. The SS-1 and SC-1 should do fine as they are the closest match to what you have. I think the actual matching speakers were the KSC-C1 cneter and the KSF-S1 or S5 surrounds. ------------------ Yamaha HTR-5150 SF-1 SC-1 SS-1 KSW-150
  6. Mixmaster, it matters more what you think about the speakers(or your friend if he is the purchaser). I don't know of any "flaws" in the speakers. CNET did do a "review"(I use that term loosely) of the system, and I don't think that it could really be used as a reliable source in making a decision on whether to purchase or not since the review consisted of about 4 paragraphs and didn't give any details on the setup for the test. The ideal situation would be to audition them at home and see how you like them. I don't personally know any dealers who will let you do this. However, the next best thing is to buy from a dealer who will let you return the speakers if you do not like them. You can and probably should listen to the speakers there at the store with material you bring, not the stuff the store uses. Also try to use the equipment you are interested in buying when you listen to the speakers as receivers and CD/DVD players vary. ------------------ Yamaha HTR-5150 SF-1 SC-1 SS-1 KSW-150
  7. If he is so set on Bose I doubt that you can find anything that will compare to what he is buying. Many people will tell you that Bose has been able to get a huge following because of their marketing not the quality of thier product. Complete package sytems are generally a bad idea. One problem with what he is buying is that it will be next to impossible to upgrade it as newer decoding technologies come out. He is buying a 5.1 setup and 6.1 has recently come out. If he wants to check out DTS he is out of luck there too as the Bose system does not appear to have DTS decoding. For the $2K he is spending you can easily get the Klipsch System 6, a receiver that has DD and DTS decoding built in and a DVD player that is more than comparable to the free one from Bose and you will be able to upgrade pieces and add speakers as new technologies become available. ------------------ Yamaha HTR-5150 SF-1 SC-1 SS-1 KSW-150
  8. The Pronto should work with the JVD DVD. Check out www.remotecentral.com and ask a question in the forums for the Pronto there, someone should be able to give you an answer. You could also check the files there because someone may have already uploaded a file with the codes for you particular DVD player.
  9. Do a dealer search to find a few near you, some dealers will haggle with you and others will say this is the price and we aren't going to budge. I don't like spending that much with an online store so I got mine locally from a large chain dealer. I was able to get them durring some of the stores sales (I bought my fronts first then got the center and rears later) and saved about 20-25% off MSRP on the speakers. I'm sure you know you should always try to audition anything you think you might be interested in. ------------------ Yamaha HTR-5150 SF-1 SC-1 SS-1 KSW-150
  10. If you post this question in the Promedia section of the board you will probably get a quicker response. This one is frequented with Home Theater types. To answer you question as best I can.. The 2.1's are 2 sattelites and a sub and the 4.1's are 4 sattelites and a sub. As far as I know the warranty is the same if you get them on the internet or in a local store. The 4.1 is already available for purchase, you could be thinking about the "4.2" system some people have been talking about, which I believe you must buy 2 of the 2.1 systems to get that.
  11. If you have attic access above the room, you could run the wires overhead. Running them overhead allows you to hide your wires and they will probably be a little more accessible than running them through the floor. You just have to use wire that is approved for in wall use.
  12. If you go to the Home Audio section on the left, there is a place you can download and print out the manual for your equipment. You will need Adobe Acrobat to view and print it.

  14. I don't have one of those boxes, but I would like to know where I might find some information on one of those. Can you tell me where I could find it?
  15. If your sub is still under warranty Klipsch should take care of it for free. Give them a call @ 1-800-KLIPSCH ansd talk to them.
  16. Not knowing what receiver you have, I think Steve is saying it will sound like crap because the front amp/channel and rear amp/channel will receive a different signal. The rear channel will receive signals that are totally different than the fronts. Even using the different surround modes that most receivers have will not enable you to get the same signal to the front and back channels. I don't know if it would have the same effect in a 5-D Surround mode, but I think you would get a much better sound if you were to use the A and B outputs like Steve suggested because the signal will be the same to both of those channels.
  17. Try a local electrical supply shop.
  18. One of the reasons that shipping is so expensive is the weight of the item. A 27" TV is quite heavy, probably weighing over 75# which is the cutoff for normal shipping at your major shippers i.e. UPS, Fed Ex... If the item weighs over 75# it requires special handling, not to mention the insurance and special packaging on the item. Unfortunately if you want free shipping you are probably going to have to pay close to full price. IMHO when ordering large, heavy items like TV's it is better to buy at a local store so if you have a problem with it within 30 days of purchase you can usually, at most places, return it to the store for a replacement.
