  1. Has anyone tried to make a multichannel amp out of these? I was thinking this would be nice for my Home Theater.

    Bitcoins?

    Here ya go... http://bitcoin.org/en/
  3. That is what I made for my setup... Except I cut pieces of aluminum pipe to put in between the shelves (slid over the threaded rod), and hide the threaded rod.
  4. Another pair of La Scalas for $1500 http://stockton.craigslist.org/ele/4279021899.html
  5. 1985 Klipsch La Scala (Pair) - $1250 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/4282511767.html
  6. 1981 Klipsch La Scala Speakers - $1200http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/4278395507.html
  7. I might be wrong here but here goes... I think if you buy a used set of say some Heresy speakers they will sound better than the RF-28s, and will cost you about the same (not to mention you can always get your money out of them if you ever want to upgrade)... No need to buy a new pair of speakers when the older models are better sounding for the same as a sweet deal on a new pair. If you decide down the road that you want to move up to even better speakers you can move your Heresys to the rear for surrounds. The RF-62 IMO would be much better than the RF-28s too.
  8. I just got a line on another pair of HIPs... I will be getting them in the next few weeks. This will complete my 11.1 setup.
  9. They appear to be in real good condition too... If I had the cash I would grab them!
  10. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/4275660353.html Klipsch La Scala Speakers, no Woofers - $780 (concord / pleasant hill / martinez)
  11. Are you referring to my post? The Heresy is a good speaker and can be had for around $400 a pair used(depending on your location)... This would allow the TS to start with a nice pair of speakers for a little cash and then buy more as his funding allowed.
  12. Why not buy used Heresy speakers? Then you can buy more as you see a deal on them.
  13. I decided to stain it red mahogany instead of veneer... Here are 2 pics of the progress so far (speaker is upside down). On Monday I will sand and finish the staining the speaker. I am going to paint the interior black including the woofer cavity. I still need to work out the mounting of the horn too. I am trying to come up with a nice freestanding horn mount that I can adjust for height.
  14. I am looking at making some new wires for the bass and horn... I will be sleeving them since they will be in full view. Would this be good enough to use for the internal wiring? http://www.monoprice.com/Product/?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023904&p_id=4044&seq=1&format=3#specification I hope to have pics of one speaker today... It will still need a bass box cover and mounting of the horn, and crossover but other than that it should be ready for veneering.
  15. I added a 2nd skin of 1/2" Birch Plywood to the entire bass bin (except for the front mouth area)... I also flipped the bass box upside down to where the woofer access hole is on top. I cut a recess into the new 1/2" ply around the hole and will be making a cover for it. I still have to decide how I am going to mount the Faital horn, and where I am going to put the Bob Crites "A" crossover. I am debating making a new motorboard or doing something where the horn is out there by itself. I also made some feet out of 2x4 Poplar that run the depth of the speaker (these are angle cut to give a retro look to the LaScalas). Hopefully Sunday I will have one ready for Veneer (luckily since I have some boo boos to cover up)... If I do I will post some pics of it so far.
  16. Thanks for the info on the 510s... I might just go that route later. Question: Would it be better to just drill 2 holes in the bass box for the wires or just get some speaker box terminal cups with banana plugs? I have one bass box just about ready for veneering now and would like to get this one finished ASAP. tia, Ron
  17. I am assuming that once you add the 510 horn to a LaScala I or II they will sound pretty much identical... Is this correct? How do you like the 510s? Any disappointments?
  18. I got all the 1/2" Birch ply cut up today to do 2 of the LaScalas... I will try and get 2 of the bass cabinets completed in the morning. I am open to going to bigger horns down the road but at this time it will be the Faitals, money is the big issue now. If I do upgrade I think I would be considering this horn... I like the Jubscala but I think the horn is a bit too big.
  19. I got the first one cut up on New Years Eve... Wasn't too bad except that I had to use a sawsall to fut the woofer access base off. I decided to flip the bass box upside down so that the serial numbers will still be visible but on the bottom. I am going to add a 1/2 layer to the top and then flush cut the access hole to match the original hole... At that point I think I will make a recess and flush mount a plexi window. I got the whole exterior sanded down, hooked up the new crossover, mounted the driver to the horn, and I did a temp mount of the horn on the cabinet. I did a little listening and it def sounded dif... Since I don't have it setup completely yet nor do I have a good way to A/B the setup I will be completing the other one this weekend. Question: I am going to add another layer to the cabinet for stiffening... Should I use MDF or plywood? I will be buying some veneer to go over the whole outer cabinet of the bass boxes.... I know that MDF is what is used in the later versions but not quite sure if I should add it our stick with another layer of Birch ply and then veneer. Any ideas?
  20. Would I be better to add 1/2" Birch or 1/2" MDF and then veneer for reskinning the cabinets?
  21. Well one of my neighbors came up to my house today... She had all 3 boxes which she found on her doorstep. She told me they had no idea why or how they got there but they were there this morning. I thanked her and she was on her way. This means this week I will be cutting the top off of the LaScalas and completing the mods. The "A" crossovers look very nice and it will be nice to have them in view on top of the LaScalas.
  22. It was a "Home Delivery" which is only open Tuesday-Saturday. I believe it was dispatch that called me... All I know is it was a woman who identified herself as calling fro Fedex. My wife said not to worry too, but she doesn't know how much I spent.
