I do not see how you'd be able to accomplish this without the control pod. I've done this exact thing with a promedia ultra sub but the control pod was still necessary to power the unit on and off. The major difference is the 2.1 control pod not only controls power on/off but is also what provides the audio signal input to the sub/speakers. Mustang, from your sig I just saw you have 4 subs in your setup []. I'm curious as to how you got that rigged up? I guess you have a pretty large room for that much low end no? It's probably balanced really nicely though, I can only imagine.

That's very informative Islander. So goods (i.e. jewelry) I can understand. Speakers, I can understand. But something that either will do very little/practically nothing/nothing and will never be seen/hidden in the background (aka a wire) that's just absurd. I'd rather just like buy a whole buncha gear or buy inanely expensive wire and give the rest to charity if i wanted to blow 20-30K. I apologize to everyone who looks through this thread for my incessant rambling. I guess ordinary folk like me will just never understand things such as this, just beyond my comprehension.

Unless those babies have like 20 carrot diamonds on em', i'd be in total awe....but that doesn't add to the FUNCTION which is what we're talking about here so probably bad example Anyway, the basis here is no matter who you are is there really justification to dropping that kinda cash on WIRE? Even if you are someone the believes the fact wires make a huge auditory difference I can't see spending beyond $300-500. That'd be like me trying to explain how spending $2000 on a shift knob will enable me to shift faster and decrease my time by .002 seconds.

Some scenes I feel are demo worthy. Acting is a bit to be desired, especially with Sam's constant name screaming out bursts. Pretty annoying and highly unnecessary - just deflates the movie. In any case, still enjoyable to watch with plenty of entertainment value.

Just out of curiosity, what were u pondering for ur rears? In any case, since you'll be ridding of ur RS's and going with bookshelves (i'm assuming), y not instead of mounting them on the wall, you place on them stands behind your couch? In that kind of scenario, i believe they should be 110-130 (can't remember exact) degrees off axis of the sweet spot to either side (directed at the sweet spot). Doing it this way, will pretty much remove the guess work of mounting them correctly on the wall. Not sure though if you have this option?

Kain, i see from your sig that you're using dipole surrounds not bookshelves. Because of the way those speakers are designed to work, you should be able to hang them behind the listening position straight on the wall without tilting and you'd still get the same quality sound. Don't forget, those surrounds [in particular] are not meant to be directional, really, they're supposed to provide you with the more ambient effects [talking home theater/movies perspective]. Especially since u'll have ur couch out from the wall some distance, u should be good to go.

Duder, this may be just my ears but i always found corner loading to produce more boomy base. It may be just the acoustics in my room but i found that i get less accurate and not as dynamic sound. Moving the sub away from the corner(s) produced a much better result. However, i would agree doing so takes away from the response and being able to fill the room with sound. I was able to fix that issue though with a 2nd sub [] [6] I kind of like Kain's idea putting the sub in the middle with the center on top. That'd be pretty cool and probably produce a more "even" base throughout the room. Althought not sure how well that would work in terms being able to fill the room. My suggestion would be to try it out but also try other possibilies as you [Kain] may just find a much more sutable position.

Aww, really, you think so Zark? I actually very much dislike the looks of La Scalas. I think what this guy did makes them look absolutely amazing! I know the movie itself is not all that great, but I still say has some entertainment value. At the least you get a pretty darn good DTS-HD soundtrack. Oh and not to mention like one of the best intro scenes EVER MADE (can you say holy LFE BATMAN!).

Totally agree wth moving the sofa. [Y] Dtel, I was going to inquire though as to why you think it better to put the sub on the front wall. Is that just personal preferece? Guess that answers my question... I am curious though as to where you got this information. I am thinking of doing a bit of "rearrangement" and was pondering on the idea of putting subs behind the listening position on opposite ends. Either that or putting them on opposite walls facing inward in front of the listening position but not on the sides of the tv (refer to Kain's room 2 drawing to get a better understanding of what I mean). Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If I was in your position and I had the option of setting up in room 2, I would move the couch up towards the tv. Since you're only able to place the surrounds on the back wall, having your couch away from it would probably allow for better "audio symmetry". Being right next to them as you have drawn would make the surrounds very apparent and "in your face". Perhaps it is just my personal preference, but I like a more ambient experience.

Location and pics I'm sure would help move things along for you. You might be disappointed by offers you'll probably receive though.
