I found it the chemical used on the outer surround was....dibutylphalate Paul used it on the EV and Jenson woofers to lower Fe to about 28 fe 37 in horn -
I don't know who would saw through a woofer surround edge,, Paul certainly would not do that........I found the tech letter from Paul about what was applied to the outer surround of woofers ... EV and Jenson woofers,,, IT was dibutylphalate,,,... a small amount of shellac was applied at the cone edge near outer surround so no migration would creep into cone,,,From what I saw everything was clear not orange like the EV WK,,,Thats a different cone surround,,
-
Remember the woofers at that time had fe of at least 40.... Paul needed to get tham down to around 30...
-
Not that one,,,
-
No it was not orange,,, But Paul was very careful not to get it on the cone ,,But on the outer surround,,, So it would not migrate further down the cone....Yes the wedges were just above and below the slot,,,....... GEORGE ASHWORTH had a special bass bin made for him by Paul,,,,to make fast exchanges of woofers in the bass unit,,,
-
In some technical letters to ashworth,,,, A special chemical was applied to the EV 15wk outer surround to lower free air resonance...Paul applied this himself,,, I don't know if this after all these years had dried out... Paul was trying to lower free air resonance to just below 30 hz,,,I don't no wicth serial number were on the units,,,Paul new about the problems in trying something smaller than 3x13 slot,,, ASHWORTH had several mounting boards in his position 6x13 ,,3x13 ,, 2 1/2 x13,,and one at 2x13...,,, After Georges death...I was allowed to recover some of these boards,, I have them in my basement,, Plus all 155 tech letters from Paul to George... I sent copies to Jim Hunter... I haven't read them in many years,,, The additional wedges in the bass bin are a mystery to me,,, I don't remember who ,,cant remember his name also found these wedges in the bass bin and was able to remove them..

WHY THE PUT DOWN ???

BUT, Could they sing ?

Cassettes never caught on with me,,,I used a Nak. with tape speed of only 1 7/8,,,, Thought it was inferior to my AMPEX 440,, At 15ips... tape saturation on dynamics could be heard,, ...But cassettes were convenient but that's all... I still use my real to real ,,, dumped my NAK and I,m not sorry..

VIN... Like I said before padding the inside of the bass bin is a bad idea,, -

WVU80,,, I am not a fan of political correctness,,,(respectfull snip) Cable design has come along way,,,,,,, PAUL K used a hell of a lot of lamp cord,,, ,,,So did I,,, -

WVU 80,,, Your coming from the wrong direction,,,.....Georg Ashworth was a scientist in his own right that helped with woofer problems with Paul Klipsch in finding a proper woofer compliance,,, I new him very well,, Paul K made a special bass bin with a special access door so George could change woofers faster to make tests,,,Remember all woofers back then had a higher free air resonance point,, Paul needed to change that,,, George provided the special chemical to help lower that problem,,,in outer compliance,,, Paul had to apply that,,on each woofer himself,,,It was that STEVENS gave him the woofer type he wanted,, saving paul all that labor. -

ALSO ,,Place your fingers on the access door to the bass bin,,, It vibrats,,,when playing loud percussion,,, I placed a extra layer of bracing,, Adding any some damping layers inside the bass bin is a no no,,,,, It CHANGES the impedence EMF,,,, PAUL K was very stricked about that,,, Also the compliance of the woofer can be compromised,,, The expiraments on cone treatments by ASHWORTH and PAUL In earlier woofer designs showed where the problems are,, It took STEVENS to give PWK the best woofers back then,, EMINENCE now provides the proper woofer,,Propriatory,,, Not the Crits,,Although its close,, Some of the latter EMINENCE woofers have been slightly changed,,,,,,, I don't like any of the mid horns in the K horn,,and that cheep mid driver,,,But remember the Klipsch Company does not make speakers ,,But only horn designs and enclosures,,, -

Its possible by adding a stiffener you stopped the tailboard from vibrating,, They can become weak,,, -

THE Huygen reflector was a failed attempt....... Like I said before disconnect the midrange horn and tweeter and listen,,,Your comment about back reflection into the horn will not change anything,,At those frequencies you wont hear it,,, What makes you think your findings are valid compaired to Paul W Klipsch ???... I turned over 155 pages by PWK and George Ashworth on Scientific studies on that Bass Bin.... To Klipsch Co. All that was done,,, Your findings are about as valid as the PWK B.S. button. -
