  1. Last night, as I switched my Wave 8's off, I noticed that the right one, after about 1/2 a second released some energy that caused the corresponding speaker to thump. At this point, since I'm pretty clueless about these sorts of things, I believe that it must be a capacitor releasing it's charge as the amp is shut off. Could this be the case, and what the heck can I do about it? Thanks for any help you can provide.
  2. I've been drooling over the Harmony myself. I look forward to an in depth review.
  3. I didn't realize there were so many of us CE's on this board. Mine is a TI-85 and gets me through every day.
  4. Purchase something at BB with the card and then return the item. Take the cash back and put it toward a pair of Grado's.
  5. Just read the statements by PWK. Man, every time I read a quote of his I gain more and more respect. That guy was just an absolute genius. It's amazing how he can take such abstract ideas and put them into relative terms that most people can understand.
  6. You can also hook it up to the speaker level inputs to see if it will play that way. That would be a quick way of figuring out it is a receiver setting.
  7. I have my wave 8's hooked up to the Zone 2 preamp outs on my AVR and I switch out the speaker cables.
  8. Hey Dean, are you lost?!?! The 2 Channel forum is one up:) Enjoy the new tv.
  9. Paradigm makes some nice speakers for the price. If he is installing a system for $1,500, he must be in the "Performance Series" range of speakers. For the money, I think they sound great. To be honest, most of my firends and family own Paradigm and I'm pretty much in the minority. I have one firend who owns their Reference line of speakers and I think they sound very nice, just not quite to my liking. If Klipsch didn't exist, they might be in my room also.
  10. $2,000 50" screens?!?! If they are developing HDTV 50" in this price range we all better put a deposit down now. They will absolutely be flying off the show room floor.
  11. I don't think that waiting is too feasible since you have nice new speakers and nothing to drive them. I think I saw an article in one of the Mags testing 3 under $300 receivers. I think they were an Onkyo, Yamaha, and Panasonic. I think that the cheapest Denon right now is $399 so that would be a little out of budget, unless you can figure out a way to stretch it. If you can, the 1604 might be a good bet. If not, you can pick up an Onkyo TX-SR501 for $249 shipped from jandr.com right now.
  12. Stream, Nice choice in music. Went to the MMW show last Friday night and they were amazing as usual. You have the closest musical taste to me of anyone I've ever heard of. I guess I'm not alone in this world.
  13. Natural gas is way too expensive to heat with in the Northeast. When I had it, I was paying as much as $350/month during the coldest months. Last year was one of the coldest winters in Maine and with my new place (not new construction but newly purchased)and oil heat we used $528 for the entire season. That is heating 1,200 sq ft of space.
  14. Thanks, That's kind of what I figured but he wants cordless headphones. Unfortunately, no place around me has cordless phones to audition so I can't tell how good (or bad) they sound.
  15. I was hoping one of you could help me out with a possible purchase on some cordless headphones. My brother-in-law has asked for a set for Christmas and referenced a $40 pair at the Discovery Store. Now, I'm assuming that these are probably pretty well useless so I'd like to find something better. I found a pair of Sennheiser RS 40's for $80. They appear to be pretty nice. Does anyone have an idea if these would be acceptable for music listening? He isn't an audiophile exactly but understands the value of high quality equipment. On another note, are cordless headphones typically lower quality than corded? Is there a large gain by being "plugged in"? Thanks in advance for any opinions.
  16. T3 was absolutely horrible. There was no character development with any of the new characters. I think that is where they blew it along with the lack of a plot. I think they should have made more out of the father-in-law, etc. It would have made the movie more interesting. It was way too cliche. As for CA Full Throttle...was it just me, or did the movie appear to be made by three teenage girls who think they are so cute that whatever they do is so adorable and funny. Come on Lucy Liu, your cross-eyed and Drew, your a sloppy mess. BTW, Cameron Diaz, you looked way too convincing in a mullet...scary actually. I think it was just an excuse to see how many different kinds of outfits they could wear in 1.5 hours. What was this, Spice Girls the Movie?!?
  17. Either choice would work well. THe Legends don't have a true surround match. The KSP-S6's were the closest match, but they will cost you about as much as a pair of RS-7's will and more than a pair of KLF-10's. If you want a floor standing, direct radiating surround, get the 10's. If you want dispersed surrounds, get the 7's.
  18. Watch out now. Those are not the Quintet package. They appear to be more of a variant of the Pro Media speaker line. You have to pay $1000 to get the Quintet speakers with a Samsung receiver/dvd player. Either of these systems are more of a home theater in a box, which isn't necessariliy a bad thing, but that's what you're getting. I think that if you were to negotiate with a Klipsch dealer you could get the speakers with a decent receiver for little more than $1,000.
  19. Yeah, I also read that review. I picked up the mag due to Klipsch being reviewed. I always get a copy of any Klipsch review since it doesn't happen often. I would say that the review was the most flattering Klipsch review since Stereo Review did one on the KLF 20's back a few years ago, maybe even better. It almost appeared to be an advertisement for Klipsch products. I'm sure they will see an increase in sales due to the review.
  20. I have the model 700 which is basically the same receiver without THX Select certification. IT has served me very well so far. I auditioned it next to the H/K 325 and 525. I did notice a slight (and I mean very slight) decrease in bass output compared to the 525 but it sounded extremely close to the 325. I wasn't planning at the time to purchase either but was impressed by both. My wife suprised me last Christmas with the 700 and said if I wanted I could return it for the H/K, but I liked the looks of the Onkyo better so I stuck with it. The pure audio function is nice and I use it for all of my 2 channel listening right now. As for volume settings...with 2 channel I run it in the 30's and for movies in the 50's and it is more than enough in my smallish room. I guess it helps when your speakers have a 98dB efficiency.
  21. I agree with Bruinsrme. I went the same route and my wife couldn't be happier. I also feel secure with having the serial number etched in so you don't have to worry about some crook ripping you off by replacing it with an inferior diamond. Also, as part of the deal the ring gets cleaned every six months by them which helps maintain the luster and makes sure it won't fall out. Platinum is the way to go. I went with an antique type setting and let me tell you it definitely grabs people's attention. It is very classy looking and I believe it has a timeless look. BTW, sapphires look really nice next to diamonds.
  22. Regarding you speaker placements, I would try to get that center channel centered. I think you could accomplish this by moving your left speaker closer to the SVS and moving your media rack inside the right speaker. Adjust the toe in on the L/R and you should be all set. That way the center could remain locked in the middle of your tv and your front soundstage. I know with my KLF's the distance between l/r is suggested as 6-15' so I'd assume yours would be similar. Give it a try.
  23. I don't believe that KLipsch has made a marketing error whatsoever. The idea was to extend the Reference line down into Synergy territory to sell at exclusive dealers, effectively replacing Synergys in that arena. The Synergy Series is now freed up to be sold in the big box stores to compete against the likes of Infinity, JBL, Bose, etc. It introduces Klipsch to many people who would never think to walk into a hi-fi store or are too intimidated. Once introduced, the upgrade bug will hit, and with the idea of brand loyalty, these people will be looking into the Reference and Heritage lines.
