  1. I'm glad someone dug this thread up! Trey still owes us his promised explaination! From pictures taken on the trip to Hope in August?, 2005, the serial number of the Cornwall in the Klipsch Museum is #138. Mike
  2. Easy answer: The thread originator "ranjith" shows to live in "Oshawa". A simple Google search for Oshawa, shows it to be in Canada. You clicked on his link and looked at what he was looking at. If you take the item # and use your USA eBay you will find the item there. Mystery solved! Mike
  3. I don't want to rain on anybodies parade, but remember one of those little storms, that came through the Gulf Coat recently call Katrina? (pun intended). Notice the method of payment. USPS M.O. ONLY. You have No recoarse. I would be VERY leery of anything on eBay or anything else from the Gulf coast area for quite some time without COMPLETE research (spell that personal inspection). Mike
  4. Consider steaming them off with the steam from a tea kettle. Mike
  5. I agree with your opinion of the condition. In addition, if one looks carefully the risers do not appear original. The give away is the picture of the back, which shows the back of the riser missing (ie the risers only have three sides). What tics me is: part of his sales pitch is a direct quote from one of my posts in a thread started by zaven, 7-19-05 titled "vertical horn Cornwalls". There is something else interesting about these Cornwalls, but I will wait until the auction is over before disclosing it. Nothing bad, but I have no interest in helping this individual due to their plagiarism.
  6. As Frzninvt said: "The Jensen woofers alone in those sell for $250 or more apiece!" In addition: Based on the serial numbers on the drivers, these were 1964's with a 20% chance of being late 1963's. The seller and I had a long conversation about the condition. $1,500 may have been a tad high for the condition, but not much. I set a price I was willing to snipe, but that was passed in the last 3 minutes, so I saved my bullets for the next opportunity.
  7. Gilbert, A different approach: Over the years I've tried most, if not all of the derived approachs mentioned above (and still have a Dynaco laying around) and they all work to varing degrees with varing degrees of convience. But the real answer, to me, is an pre-amplifer that has a Center Channel output. A McIntosh C-26, C-28, MX-130, etc. I'm sure the're other brands also, but I and McIntosh go way back. I currently have a MX-130. It makes a large difference. You have a siginificant investment in quality speakers and amps. Find a pre-amp that suits you and your equipment, which has a center channel output IMHO. Mike
  8. Two questions: Tony: Is the list of attendees UTD, to the best of your knowledge? Trey and/or Tony: The references to the Saturday 9 to 12 time period are very vague. Can you amplify what we would be doing during this time period? I realize we will not have a plant tour, but what is planned from 9 - 12? Respectfully, Mike
  9. Thanks Michael! jdaddyok and CNJSHAVEIT are now blocked from bidding on anything I sell on eBay !! Good2BHome
  10. Just a thought. The topic had never occurred to me before this thread, but what about black liquid shoe polish or dye lightly applied? Less residue would be deposited on the cone. Or better yet, air brushed on.

Unless someone differs? I appreciate all the help, if you live in North texas email me and I'll buy you a beer/coffee. God Bless Ron ---------------- You are invited to join the DFW Hornheads at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DFW_Hornheads/?yguid=90839422 I haven't had time to respond on the forum, but decided to get the ball rolling there. Sometimes newbies are ignored. We get together as a group, 4 - 5 times a year at someone's home. Other times in just 2's and 3's. Mike PS: There are older Texas rules known only to a few older native Texans that negate those trifling clauses you sited. And we'll be happy to let you bring the beer to the next gathering in late Sept or early Oct in Flower Mound.
  13. As a fellow Texan I'm required to hep you. Do ya'll just need an amp, which implies you have a pre-amp or do you need both? In addition, what other equipment do you have? Mike
  14. On a per square foot basis you guys may be pikers! I'm temporarily living in an 732 sq ft apartment with 6 Cornwalls and associated equipment. I listen to 5 of them in a reasonably proper surround sound configuration. I sleep in the other one.
  15. Russ, In the dim pictures of the Serial number labels, what looks like a CBR could also look like CDR! Records have been updated! Glad to hear you have originals back in them. I also had to find "original" tweeters for the 1974 CWL's I bought last year. Within a month, I really got lucky. A forum member wanted to trade K-77 Alnicos for Muds straight-up, so for the price of a FedEx package I had originals. Mike As someone here once said "We don't really own these Cornwall speakers. We are just privileged to be their caretakers, until the next caretaker is given that responsibility."
  16. I've not seen any that were ORIGINALLY Teak. There was one pair of 1971 CBR's that had been veneered in Teak by a pervious owner and they sold for 1499.00 + shipping, but remember in 1971 these were Verticals. In addition they had the wrong K-77 mud tweeters. What we are presented with now is a 1982 pair with god knows what for drivers and crossovers, unless you see pictures. This is a store front eBay reseller. They and many others go and get the "easy specs" from the Klipsch site which are really for the 1985-1990 Cornwall II, which show the weight overstated, construction of MDF, and in this case one of the veneer selections as "Teak Oil" You just have to know what you are bidding on!! Mike P.S. I have a "snap shot" of the listing before it was changed.
  17. Research is always a good thing. A) These have just been listed @ 999.00 + 205.00 Shipping with NO bids as of a few minutes ago. My records show a pair of 1978 CWO's as the record at 1906.00 + shipping which was not stated, on 11/28/04. They were very nice and came with the original boxes. Mike
  18. jerohm, I will withhold my promised rebuttal of your post, containing additional evidence of Klipschs advertising statements, pending Treys expected reply. It was interesting to hear from Trey, that the Cornwall on the museum was #13. Im sure that Trey can establish the positioning of the horns in it. I hope we will be going to the museum on the Hope trip in September. Mike
  19. jerohm, I now see the "link" under the word "this" in your original post, which in my browser is a little obscure. I acknowledge your most recent post and will reply to it FULLY by Sunday night. I have more pressing matters at the moment. Mike
  20. Al, You are a wealth of knowledge and help as always. That is enough info to make my decision. I will be buying one. Thank you and I'll mention to Bob this conversation, Mike
  21. ---------------- On 8/3/2005 7:27:30 PM LarryC wrote: There was a thread a year or more ago with pics strongly suggesting that the earliest Cornwall was a morphed Shorthorn, i.e., vertical slot in the back, grill cloth on the sides (decorative only in the Cornwall) and Shorthorn legs. That must have been a quick evolution, since I don't recall a Shorthorn front on the first Cornwall I saw in the early '60s. ---------------- A reading of "The Life...The Legend" pages 118 and 119 gives: To quote PWK "I'm not proud of the Rebel; as wrong as it was, it paved the way for the Cornwall." I could be wrong about my interpretation, but it seems to indicate along with the rest of what is written on page 119 that the closest Cornwall relative was the Rebel V. Although there is definitely visual connection with the Shorthorn. As a side note the Shorthorn had a horizontal positioning of the 2 horns

  23. I feel your pain "Dude" but, Shorthorn are triangular Cornbread are square Mike A "pair" of Shorthorns
  24. Thanks Al, I couldn't get hold of the owner (you know him well), so the forum was my next choice. Good idea. I assume you went this route because there is no place to put another set of binding posts (for a total of 8). I won't need the 4th amp (I don't think). Does it look reasonable straight forward to replace the present 6 with 6 standard binding posts? Mike
