  1. Congrats. I have daughters of my own, a step-daughter as well, and yet, when my boy was born... a whole new feeling emerged. Congrats Dad...
  2. Hi guys, Some of you may know I have a son named Max who was born with cystic fibrosis. He is doing fine and is all attitude all the time and is quite the character. My eldest daughter decided to put him in a cutest babies contest where the winner(s) get put in a calendar. My wife is determined Max (maxg from the forum is honorary godparent) should win this contest. So I am asking each of you to vote for Max. You can vote once a day until the 27th of Feb. I thank you and Max thanks you - and my wife lets me live. Two ways to get to the site - simply aliases for Max and you will soon understand why - and it makes no difference which you choose. Its merely tongue-in-cheek humor. Vote here "CF CUTE" or here "MAX T". Thanks again... and remember you can vote once a day. Help a Kipsch prodigy win the contest. Robert & Max.
  3. Black Sabbath. Hands down the best! Led Zeppelin? The Who? Rolling Stones? I would quit listening to music.
  4. It doesn't sound like many people would enjoy being in there anyway - what with toy ducks and a bunch of arguing.
  5. Hi fini, I had come across that site a long, long time ago.... and then forgot it was there. Thanks. It is the series III version.
  6. A true talent is a songwriter, their own person, can sing, and here's the kicker...Has their own artistic vision, writes their lyrics and arranges their own compositions. Sounds like David Cook this year... or Daughtry last year. The best person doesn't win every year. The best voice doesn't win each year. But the best talent did win this year... and Daughtry's numbers demonstrate he should have won last year. Archuleta wasn't the best talent but he has a helluva voice and with the right management could have a blockbuster sales numbers. This thread demonstrates people don't actually have to be informed, educated or even have first-hand knowledge to give an opinion. Read someone elses opinion, watch 30 secs of something and be secure you know everything; kind of reminds me of political opinions. I love it.
  7. My TD125MkII doesn't have all these issues (it doesn't take 5 minutes to start up, it didn't require a lot of setup and maintenance, it isn't a DJ turntable and it looks fantastic) and nobody fights over it. The SME arm does have a reservoir for lubrication... what is the preferred oil for this application? I thought about getting Linn springs and all the other "hot-rod" upgrades but the dang thing just does its job and does it well. I don't know what the other stuff would buy me or if it would even be audible. Should I actually perform some real maintenance or leave well enough alone?
  8. I think this is a setup, Craig hasn't commented directly on a post of mine in a year nor I his and suddenly he decides to comment directly to me, someone else mentions VRD's are but Dynaco's (a point which distorts anything I ever said) and then someone else states bass is not a forte of tube amps in reference to a post I made about VRD's having bass. Whatever. If a game, lets play, if not, I am merely responding as someone who has been the target of Craig's disdain all too often (and for no reason.)Oldtimer: Lets revisit some posts. I could do this all day. There are dozens of testimonials to a tube amp (particularly VRD's which were the specific reference) having bass. You should inquire if you could hear a set from someone close by. Be aware, I don't mention this because Craig and I are buddies; Craig will be happy to tell you we aren't and can probably invent a word for the opposite to apply to me. I simply state I have a hard time believing someone can complain about a lack of bass from VRD's.
  9. I will say no more about the VRD's and will allow their manufacturer explain or get to the bottom of this - it certainly flies in the face of all previous commentary about the bass and is difficult to understand given their design. Wow! I don't think I have even typed or mentioned VRD's in a year or two.
  10. Then I would say your home brew 60 watters are not working all that well. The sound difference of the Mark III's should be stunningly different then the little HF-81... And I mean stunning especially when leaning on the volume control. I will ignore the all-too-subtle attempt at disparagement; we have been there far too many times and I have no interest in the drama. The Dynaco's are anything but home-brew - I merely piggy-backed off the work of others, selected good components, slung some solder and use nice tubes. Certainly the Mark III's or the Consonance, for that matter, can blow the Eico out of the water if I want to get to house-shaking volumes or, as I said, want the neighbors a 1000 yards away to hear some Black Sabbath. How often does anyone play anything that loud? For 80% of my listening at loud volumes, the Eico fits the bill; of course, as I said earlier as well "there are times I prefer the 60wpc on the Klipschorns but it isn't as much a matter of volume as it is the sound." They all have a different signature and soundstage as do the speakers. It goes without saying if you are trying to fill a large area with concert level volumes, the Eico won't manage it; in an average sized room - not an issue. Of course, ones perception of an average sized room depends on their house and location.
  11. Wow. How much volume does one need? I have tube amps ranging from 14wpc to 60wpc. The 14wpc on a set of Heresies is capable of producing one hell of a lot of incredible sound on anything from Reggae to Heavy metal. There are times I prefer the 60wpc on the Klipschorns but it isn't as much a matter of volume as it is the sound. I probably listen louder than most on this board on more occasions. I haven't found many occasions where I thought I needed more "headroom" with 14wpc. Now if I am throwing a neighborhood concert (opening the windows and exposing the masses to Black Sabbath) I will use the Khorns & the Dynaco's. I have a couple of unused solid state amps as well. They have far more power. I have never found them necessary nor enjoyed them them a fraction of what I do the tube amps - they aren't superior to the 14wpc in anyway. Wattage is largely irrelevant and is generally the last thing to be concerned with; I take a great sounding Eico HF-81 over a 100 watt solid state amp any day. If I had to sell all my equipment except for a piece or two, I would be very hard pressed to give up the Eico over the modded and rodded Dynaco's. My point. Don't be concerned with quantity, focus on quality.
  12. Ahhh, Jubilees are soon in my future. Remember I called first dibs. [] I honestly hope it isn't all that bad for you Dean. Times are tough right now but you are still above ground. Hell, I just made an impulse buy on a tractor because it was too good a deal to pass up - this right after I declined to buy a new pre-pro because I needed to save money and bunker down until the economy is straightened out; so in "saving", I just spent 5X what the pre-pro would have cost.
  13. Solid state components are generally "burned-in" as part of a QA process. They need to be at operating temperature to sound their best in your home which involves anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes (for certain amplifiers.) Break-in? Nope - not. Your cables won't get any better either and anyone claiming they require break-in to sound better is, surrendering to psycho-acoustics and would likely surmise an alarm clock could make their system better as well. Microsoft should jump in on this solid state "break-in" thing with a new commercial. "Tech support?" "Yes, my computer keeps crashing. You suck." "No, sir, your system is fantastic. Have you allowed the computer to break-in yet? No, ok, just leave it running and it will start performing better." Microsoft. What do you want to believe today? I have no comments regarding analog components.
  14. Son of a *****; now someone says something. I just ordered 4 of those for my Home Theater based on mdeneen's review.
  15. I thought about this the other day - Klipsch needs to manufacture a few key car speakers. My vehicle requires 6x9's and 4x10's I believe so the ceiling speakers won't work. Bose has ingrained itself into the American consumers mind by being everywhere, people get sales pitches on cars touting the incredible sound system by Bose. European cars utilize a lot of Alpine. C'mon Klipsch, put Roy to work coming up with a couple speakers sized for automobile use and make Klipsch the supplier of true high quality audio car speakers. I will be glad to use my vehicle(s) as the test bed.
  16. Buy a used AR or Thorens and be done with it. The Shure M97 which was referenced previously is a great cartridge for it. Here is an AR. Or my preferred choice and a bit more money, a Thorens. I am associated with neither auction nor am I vouching for either auction. I am merely using them as examples of the turntables. Do you own due diligence.
  17. Not as outrageous as some of the OCC bikes BUT.... the bike was a familiar copper color, the wheels were made to have PWK pie slices, the Klipsch logo applied in a very appealing manner and most impressive, they built an aluminum housed WDST speaker in place of the oil tin under the seat that let you plug in your ipod. Sounded pretty darn good even over the tv. Just imagine, a bunch of long haired tattooed chopper guys will be clamoring about trying to buy Klipsch speakers. The marketing guy for Klipsch deserves a pat on the back. Well done. Someone should have thought, however, to get a set of Jubilees or Khorns into the show. The guys were railing about the Reference series, the other stuff would have blown their minds. Klipsch should auction off the bike to, I don't know, someone attending the pilgrimage.
  18. Don't know if anyone else has an interest in motorcycles but I am watching a show right now where Klipsch is outfitting the new Orange County Choppers headquarters and in return OCC is building a Klipsch tribute motorcycle. Totally cool stuff. Way to go Klipsch and love the enthusiasm Mark Fisher(Eastern Regional Product Manager, I think it said.) Uh, will the bike be at the Pilgrimage? I want to ride it. [] Heck, now I need to visit OCC to listen to this custom Klipsch install as well.
  19. Am I correct in the price Klipsch is charging is the MSRP? Hence, I could buy them locally at the same price? I would expect that manufacturer direct would result in a substantial savings but maybe I am missing where the discount is shown?
  20. I picked one (a Toshiba HD-A2) up today myself skonopa along with 5 free movies and the HDMI cable. Although I have several (4) DVD players currently, I figured for the price, I can get a better picture, newer features, and upscale my current collection. Figure I will pick up some additional movies via the firesale that is going on. Eventually, I will pick up a BluRay after the prices drop and since I have the room for multiple components... I will have plenty of choices.
  21. Perhaps I need to speak in simpler terms because you missed the point and demonstrated it simultaneously. You write something original by cutting and pasting an article while attempting to insult me by inventing an argument I didn't make. You are right, it is truly hilarious but frankly, you are beginning to bore me.
  22. Mas, you poor delusional spittle spewing troglodyte (and I mean that in fondest of ways), now I am going to have to spank you. Until he convinces everyone to keep their old SD players and simply stream their HD movies over their unlimited broadband connection directly to their TV's and revise their movie playing habits until it suits the technology. I know how you feel buck.... it makes you think he must have recently taken a marketing or computer class and feels the need to show he thinks he understands what it all means. As usual Anachronism crawls out of his hole and contradicts Buck as he tries to support him. Wrong. I answered his question directly and there is no contradiction just more rhetoric from you. So to be an early adopter of either was a risk. And the potential reward from that risk is being screwed as Buck views it and to which I never offered my opinion. But now Anachronism, you know, the tool who adds nothing of substance to the discussion and who only offers personal attacks, shows up and claims that I am trying to keep anyone from buying either. Once again, you are projecting. You have been saying the same old tired thing for weeks: "no one is adopting them and HD downloads to IPODS are seizing the market and the future is streaming media, blah, blah, blah." While Anachronism simultaneously (but just as erroneously) says that I will not be satisfied until everyone is convinced to keep their old SD DVD players. Read what I said again and learn from your mistakes. Of course they are both wrong as they debate their opposite points of view in support of each other! So which way is it to OZ, geniuses? Hmm. We don't have an opposite point of view. We both think you keep saying the same stupid $hit. The MARKET has decided that it is not embracing HD pre-recorded media with an exorbitant entry cost and high media costs except as a niche market. Mas BS. The market decided it was going to wait until the format war was over and a winner declared before adopting the new technology. Now, many will wait until other producers provide competing Blu-Ray players. And of course Anachronism hates that... he can't stand SD or any sources less than 1080p. Reading isn't your strong suit is it? I only have SD. I download movies, I buy movies and I rent movies from those obsolete Blockbusters stores that went the way of the dinosaur. Now, of course, I am considering going out to pick up HD DVD on the cheap and use the upsampling features in it while enjoying a few HD DVD releases. Oh, wait, that does point out you are completely FoS and just make things up, doesn't it? After all, Buck still laments the passing of the stereo viewers, as he has a large cache of cards. Ok, that is funny. You are good for something occasionally. For you see, Buck eschews change, while Anachronism laments that technology is not changing quickly enough. Wrong. You are the genius who claims technology makes all things possible. I point out you are delusional and believe all those marketing pamphlets you picked up at CES. For you see, for Anachronism, the majority NEEDs BluRay, despite the fact that they lack TVs capable of displaying its 1080p picture, and the fact that their $50 upscaling DVD player looks just fine playing movies that they easily purchase for $7.50-$10 - compared to the >$300 player that is not even yet capable of what Sony envisioned as its entry model and the small selection of $20-$30 titles that are available. I covered this previously and pointed out you were pulling this stuff out of your arse. I personally wanted Toshiba to win. I don't promote Blu-Ray. I don't think you even know the difference in Profile 1, 1.1 or 2 (quick, go look it up) and I am certain most consumers don't really care. It seems to me... More meaningless, nonsensical and self-absorbed dribble. Write something original, creative, and well-thought out (and not an argument of your own invention) and perhaps it would be worthwhile to respond. For the most part, communication with you is analogous to listening to a thorazine patient.
  23. Hi tkd, Things are just fine here, thanks for asking. I have had a DVR for several years - don't know how I lived without it. However, it is merely another tool - I still buy movies retail, I still rent movies from Blockbuster, and I still buy PPV's. It all depends on the movie and availability.
