  1. have you asked for pics to see the "OK" condition? IMO, if they are only minor cosmetic issues & can be fixed with a little work then true v1's are worth $900. FWIW, i sold my black v2 cf-4s a few years ago for $800 & they sold in less than 48 hours & the guy drove 3+ hours for them, granted they were a 9 out of 10 condition... i'm sure i could have got $900 but wanted a quick sale. but since v1's are so rare & hard to come by i think the price is fair, just confirm they are really v1 by the date code, very easy to add longer ports to v2's. also when i bought my cf4's i had them shipped via fedex ground from tx to ia for about $110ea, they were in the original boxes so that kept the dimensions to a minimum, a few inches bigger on either number & they would have fallen into the oversized category & been double that price. so if you can have the seller box them up securely into boxes about the same size as originals fedex will ship these fully insured for a reasonable price. if youve been looking this long & have your heart set on v1 cf-4's, id get some pics & jump on them if they are in decent repairable condition. i remember when WVU got his & had to restore the finish with some pretty big scratches, they came out very nice. best of luck!
  2. thanks for the excellent reply wvu. thats my experience too, while of course k-horns do sound best in good corners, they sound very good on their own & only lose some of the bass punch but its still very good, id say on par with lascalas. & they can also be modded pretty easily to add backboards like the 60th anniv ones or make false corners.
  3. yes i spoke with him already. thanks
  4. Cabs have issues as mentioned but majority of the scratches will sand out & look great with new lacquer. They do sound very good for 100% original. Yes, these are mine. I have another set of 1994 k-horns & the 1982's have much better upper mids & highs to my ears. Must be the mid driver & x-over differences between the 2, these 1982's sound very nice, both sets are just stuffed in way too small of a room.
  5. 1982 Klipsch Corner Horns. Walnut lacquer finish Type AA crossovers K-55-V solder terminal dual phase plug mids K-33-E square magnet woofers SOLD.
  6. oops, i misread your post, thought you meant the 1060 had noise. not sure how the volume knob is controlled on a newer digital receiver... but if its still just a basic potentiometer you would spray inside the working part of it. i'll let others chme in on a modern digital avr though.
  7. i have a marantz 1060 & its an excellent sounding amp, its rated at 30wpc but ive read reviews that say its actually tests out closer to 50. on efficient speakers like heritage klipsch it can sound very good, but for teh chorus 2's that love big power it may not drive them well enough if you like louder volumes. another big plus to the 1060 is it makes a great preamp. the noise you hear may be just dirty volume & balance pots, mine had that after sitting for a few years... some de-oxit cleared it right up.
  8. i didnt see they sold on ebay, but thats where they actually sold. i just remember them advertised here by "colter" maybe, they stuck in my memory because ive never seen NOS chorus 2 & they were special ordered for a klipsch family member.
  9. not whining at all.. actually was laughing & just wanted to let others see it so they could have laugh too. people post things like this all the time. honestly, it's hardly worth even commenting on a sarcastic thread like that... however, i will be editing this post as i just spoke to the seller & the $2700 price was was to include free shipping to FRANCE! he said a buyer wanted them very bad & was willing to pay all shipping & seller fees for them. the seller has since deleted the listing & will try to work out the logistics privately. again, was just for laughs as the price was comical if it was a domestic sale.
  10. Thanks for the info. I asked about this awhile back but was a little nervous about the basically clear oil bringing back the color, they are so dark I thought for sure they had a stain on them from the factory, guess it's just the walnut wood that is naturally that dark. I will try the watco & hope it brings back the original color.
  11. A stretch? Shoot, even the NOS ones unused & still in the box special ordered for a klipsch family member posted here a year or so ago weren't priced that high! Depreciation results: $1550 in 1992. Now 25+ years old. Caps probably needing replaced. Common oak finish. Average used market value of $600-$900. = Ridiculously overpriced.
  12. Here ya go... smokin deal too! https://www.ebay.com/itm/222818844470?ul_noapp=true
  13. i only skimmed over this long thread but my .02 is this is definitely a scam. not sure if i missed it but if you have a phone number why not just call the seller & discuss details? that will at least give you a better idea or feeling of who they are & if they are legit... emails just allow them to mask who they are or feed you a line of BS, which is what these people do, they hope to trick or fool a person into trusting them. & walmart money is so unsafe, no protection for you at all, a friend of mine just paid for an automotive part with walmart transfer, the guy picked up the money & he never heard from him again... he even callled the walmart where it was sent to & they pulled the video of the guy getting the money but said there is nothing they can do, he would have to contact his local police dept who would then have to deal with the police dept where the money was sent & even then would have a very hard time finding or prosecuting the person. like was mentioned above, legal fees & time & hassle to pursue that would cost more than the money they stole from you. or if she wasnt conveniently leaving for greece in 3 days maybe a member here is local to them & can check them out & buy them on the spot before she leaves.?? if not, i say let this deal go, sounds way to fishy to me.
  14. https://www.ebay.com/itm/222818844470?ul_noapp=true my apologies, the price was to include free international shiping, the seller has since deleted the ad to work out the logistics privately.
  15. just looked at the CL ad, bummer they are missing the risers, but still a great price for nice looking speakers. & if you want or like the risers they are pretty easy to make. i prefer the look with risers.
  16. very nice! & priced right too... not the outrageous $1200-$1500 like some out there.
  17. dont mind at all, i can say that for just cleaning & oiling i have used lemon oil for furniture with great results on many different oiled wood finishes. it cleans & feeds them without adding wax. i've never used feed & wax but it might be a good product if you want a wax coat. for my issues i will be sanding the tops probably more than most, not just a quick light sanding & steel wool, i want to remove or greatly improve some of the scratches if i can, they are not anywhere near deep enough to worry about breaking through the veneer but do catch your fingernail & in my past experience with wood, scratches like this will show up darker when you restain or re oil. so with the deeper sanding in mind & the fact that it will lighten the color compared to the sides, is just plain watco oil going to recolor them? or do i want the kind with a tint to it or actual stain. i suppose i can experiment with them but was hoping others have done this & what product they used to get the color back into the tops.
  18. I'm looking for some tips on restoring oiled walnut finish forte 2's. I've worked on the oak finishes before with great results but just wanted to hear some tips on working with the walnut. The speakers are in very good shape overall but the tops have some scratches & wear & one is a little sun faded. So I will be sanding the tops & I'm sure it will remove most of the oil or stain that's there & lighten the tops compared to the sides. My question is basically what product is best to bring them back to the factory color? I've read about watco rejuvinating oil for walnut & have used howards restore a finish on oak finishes with good results, but are those products good to match the original walnut finish? Did klipsch use a stain on the walnut speakers? Any info or experience with these oiled walnut finishes before I start sanding would be appreciated
  19. Don't forget, there are 3 different versions of the cf-4. The first is supposed to be the best, the 2nd only minor differences & the series 3 the worst... So hard to rate a persons comparison without knowing which series they had.
  20. You're welcome. Sadly i havent found any replacements for them yet... i should have just kept them but felt i needed to "upgrade" to k-horns & used the sale of teh epics to go towards them. Dont get me wrong, the k-horns are great speakers & ive lusted after them since i was a teenager, but in my small basement with higer power solid state "mid-fi" gear they dont sound as good as they could/should. but hopefully someday soon i will have a better location for them & better gear. Chorus2's are excellent speakers but i dont think they are better than the cf-4... 2 12" woofers move a lot more air than a single 15" woofer, & the epics are tuned to go lower & its really noticeable at higher volumes. the epics are a hard act to follow, especially considering all the points i mentioned above. all in all they are one of the best speakers klipsch made & in some ways better than any speakers they made. IMO

    Chorus II $1200

yes definitely shop around.. those arent on the high side, they are at the TOP of what chorus 2 actually sell for from what ive seen over the last 5-10 years. up there with exaggerated ebay prices! they look to be in nice shape but are the common oak finish, if they were oiled walnut that would help some. of course everyone has their own idea of what any thing is worth & the used market is usually all over the place. but considering WVU's average sale price for chorus 2 from the list he keeps, $1200 is far from a bargain. i have bought & sold quite a few of these & heres the average prices i see. i sold an oak set in above average shape for $700 without risers. sold a second oak set with risers in excellent shape for $900 & took a month to sell. hard to say what i paid for them as they were part of a package deal with amps, an academy center, 4 kg 2.5 surrounds & 2 pair of chorus 2's. i found a pair of oiled walnut last year for $650 in very nice shape that i kept for myself as i love the walnut finish. so unless you really want/need these, i would just be patient, they do come up for much less.
  22. a member here names moray james has lots of mods hes tried & says are improvements for the chorus 2. he may chime in soon. but heres a short list of some things you can do. add 1-2 oz of weight to the passive radiator to lower the bass freq a little. add bracing to the cabinets to stiffen them up some & experiment with some acoustic foam. also wrap the backs of the horns & woofer baskets with some type of product to dampen them, some use rope caulk on the horns others use dynamat type material. & another thing for these speakers is they like clean high power, they sound fine on normal reveivers or 50-100 watts, but they have a peak rating of like 1000w & really come to life when you have closer to 200watts per ch. i like mine on my onkyo 100wpc receiver, but when i hooked them to an adcom 200wpc amp &pre they were at a whole nother level. & yes, good recordings!
  23. He's asking about cf-4 vs klf 30's, not sure why the chorus ii & rf7s are being discussed or heavily modified klf30's... My .02 is that the cf-4 are the better speaker than the 30's in stock form. As mentioned the klf's had some pretty major defects in the cabinets, yes you can fix them & yes they can be modified to be a nice speaker. Aside from the cabinet issues they are a good sounding speaker for the average used price & seem to come up for sale a lot more than the epics. BUT, if you want the cf-4's & can be patient they do pop up for sale from time to time & IMO they are worth the wait. Yes im a little biased if you guessed by my user name, but i can say when i sold my cf4s to upgrade to k-horns i still kick myself for selling them to this day! the k-horns are a great speaker & in the right room with the right components & good recordings of music can sound excellent, but the problem is the "right room" is harder to come by or make than just having a speaker that sounds good in almost any room with almost any gear & recordings. To me, all things considered the cf-4 is better in that regard than most speakers out there in the same ballpark price range, including klipsch. But as with anything, everyone has their opinions & no 2 systems/rooms/ears are alike, so what one guy thinks is "better" may not apply to the next guy. To answer your question again, the cf-4 is a better speaker than the klf.. in my opinion.
  24. i wish i would have got pics of my many klipsch hauls on a 1997 jeep cherokee. dont have the dimensions off hand. i got a pair of k-horns in there, 2 times! tops off with bass bins in the back on their sides (no harm hauling them this way) then one top stuffed on its side with barely enough room to close the back. the other top was in the passenger seat. but the best & biggest haul that i was amazed fit was 2 pair of chorus 2, 1 academy & 4 kg1. & 5, yes 5, adcom gfa555ii amps. speakers were stuffed to the roof in the back & the amps were on the passenger seat & floor with a pair of kg's on teh center console area. i dont believe i got them all in there & probably couldnt do it again!
  25. I'm pretty sure the stock tweeter diaphrams are phenolic, crites has the TI that everyone considers upgrades, not sure if he sells phenolic tweets though but if so I think they are the same as factory. For the mids, I think crites phenolics are a factory equivalent replacement, good quality but not an upgrade. As for your "shouty" comment, some people get that impression from horn speakers, they definitely have more pronounced mids than other speakers. there are some mods to help this like dampening on the horns. You can also turn down the mid levels with EQ or turn up the bass & use less volume. Or try playing with location of the speakers.
