  1. looking for a single or a pair of passives for forte 2's. & possibly a single woofer. PM me if you can help. thanks!
  2. agreed... but these bp-30's are definitely the former of the 2.
  3. i realize these arent klipsch & might not have much interest here, but wanted to list them just in case. sold locally.
  4. my opinion based on owning a pair of the epic cf-4's & hearing cf-3's is that these are a very good speaker for all kinds of music & even movies. first you should know there were 3 "series" of the epic line, the 1st is considered the better speake, #2 & #3 follow. easiest way to determine series 1 is the bass ports are longer, 5" or so vs only 2-3" for the 2 & 3 series. i think these are better than the KG 5.5, they have better bass & smoother mids & highs, handle more power & have much better cabinets. for sound they are easily as good or better that the KLF 20 & the cabinets are better too. in my opinion. $600 may be on the high side for cf-3's, but if they are series 1 & in excellent shape & not black... im sure you could get them for a little less. cant buy anything new for $500-600 that will compare.
  5. 8 pair in 10 years? you must be in a bad area of the country. they pop up quite often in the midwest, just missed 2 pair in the last 2 weeks within a few hours of me, but the timing wasnt right with my schedule to get them fast enough. both were around $500-$600. i should clarify my recent bump post... im not looking for k-horns, i would consider trading MY k-horns for chorus 2's plus cash, for the right deal. in order to even consider that trade the chorus would need to be in excellent shape & the prices fair on both ends. my k-horns are just too big for my current (or probably future) house so i would consider trading DOWN for chorus if someone wanted to trade UP for k-horns. but its probably best to sell the k-horns when the time is right & then buy the chorus when the right deal pops up. just putting all the options out there.
  6. thanks but i plan to keep the fortes untill i can find some chorus2's.
  7. hi. yeah i should probably change my user name huh?? but im still a cf4 fan. id have to pick an appropriate name, based on what i own or have owned it could be klipschfan-forte, kg5.5, klf20, or even klipschfank-horn! hopefully i find another pair of cf-4's one day though. never hotrodded my epics, just replaced the brittle o-rings on the mid driver & played with port length, mine were series 2. no those werent mine listed on ebay, mine were black & sold locally on CL.
  8. still looking for chorus ii's at a decent price. & have mint condition fortes i would consider working a trade with. or, for the right deal, possibly trade my pair of mint k-horns! would have to be the right deal & chorus in very good shape on the k-horn trade, but its possible.... mainly just looking to buy the chorus at this time. any possibilities or alerts are appreciated. thanks!
  9. hi, just wanted to throw my onkyo opinion in here: i feel onkyo/integra are the best bang for the buck receivers there is for HT & even 2ch music or sacd. i have owned onkyo for over 25 years & never been unhappy. especially compared to other brands that cost more, my 1st venture into 5.1 was an onkyo txsr-777 receiver, at 105wpc it drove my kg 5.5 & cf-4's with ease, high volume or easy listening, all sounded great. & compared to friends higher prices/powered HK, denon, sony ES, receivers it beat them hands down in every way. back in the late 90's & early 2000's we used to bring our receivers/amps to eachothers house to swap into each others systems to compare. fast forward to recent times & i still have the 777 on a 2nd HT system, still going strong & sounds like the day i bought it. few years ago i upgraded to an txnr-805 receiver & at 130wpc that thing is a beast, close to 50lbs & has incredible power, bass, mids & highs sound great, almos as good as my "mid-fi" adcom or rotell seperates. with audesey settings the HT is amazing & 2ch music sounds very good too. havent done any swapping with friends gear with it (too heavy to lug around & most friends arent into audio anymore like i am) BUT i have heard many modern comparable receivers from the same brands listed above & i still feel the onkyo is by far a better value & holds its own with receivers costiing far more. on the used market the 801-808 receivers can be had for a few hundred bucks, & if the HDMI section is working now it was most likely not affected like some that were defective. side note, i also have a m-504 seperate amp & that sounds better than both adcom & rotel comparable power amps, just a warmer more "audiophile" sound, the adcom 555ii has more slam at very high volumes but sacrifices low to meduim quality IMO. the m-506 & 508 are also amazing seperates if you can find them. this is using fortes, k-horns & even my HT setup of def tech powered towers.
  10. "When you listed to the KLF30, did you A/B them to the CF4 in the same room, through the same amp, preamp and stagger the speakers (KLF CF4 on one side and KLF CF4 on the other so neither has an advantage of better separation) and put them through the paces of different music?" no i did not a/b them, as i didnt own the klf30, which is also my point, many peoples opinions are skewed or biased because of that fact, how many people who say one is better than the other actually do that? very few. i did however a/b them at my local klipsch dealer back in the mid 90's when the klf series first came out & they had cf-3's as demos, as many others have said, the klf just sounded overy bright & in your face, kind of why klipsch changed & discontinued the epic line, the average joe customer didnt "like" the epics different sound. funny, mr delgado(sp) felt they were the cream of the crop & his crowniing achievement at the time. argue with him about the epics.... my comments may be biased too but are based on more than just one sided opinions as i have listened to almost every klipsch speaker in the heritage line & extended line plus many of the RF's & KG's & other brands. while im far from an expert like some here that have thousands of dollars in their k-horn mods or own jubilees etc, i feel i have a good idea of what the models have to offer & again... just stating my opinion on the value of series 1 cf-4. & technically the seller only got $800 after ebay & paypal fees, so at that price they are a very good deal. hopefully we can end our debate in the alerts section on cf-4s now, or at least post up a new thread for opinions on their value.
  11. i need to get out more??? sorry my comment was not directed at you personally at all.. but just because "you" offered some lascalas on a klipsch forum at that price does NOT mean thats the average price they sell for. i see them all the time for way over $1000 usually closer to $1500... or more. there is currently a pair in my area on craigslist for $1650 & on ebay all the time for $1500+ it was just a general comment about the average market value i see in my area over the last 5-10 years, maybe its different where you live... but very rarely do "i" see them for $900 dollars, & if so chances are the seller is desperate for cash or unaware of their market value... or they are in crappy shape. my apologies eth2.
  12. i agree on the options available to the k-horn, but to be fair, that requires lots of work or $$$ to get there. 1. yes you can but most rarely do seal the backs. & dont forget the "WAF" of k-horns is about the worst there is. pulling them out & away from corners really shows their size & bulkiness. 2. toeing them out creates bass problems not being perfectly sealed to the wall, unless you sealed the backs... 3. & didnt PWK himself call for a center channel for k-horns? to fill the dead spot that happens unless you are at the perfect apex point, anything else & the sweet spot is way in front of or behind you. dont get me wrong, i love my k-horns & have been listening to others for 25+ years. have listened to all the other models you listed & just cant agree on the lascallas. they are nice but the bass is lacking to say the least, id put the cf-4 against the lascala for rock. jazz & any bass heavy music & they sound almost as good if not better in some ways for mid & highs. again the mid horn of the lascala can be rather overpowering & make the lack of bass even more obvious. personally i like many of the klipsch models & have a hard time picking an absolute favorite since there are so many variables & factors that each speaker has, then all the other aspects of the gear & room & music taste that determine a persons "favorite" or what they feel makes one speaker/amp/cd player/turntable etc better than another. for my tatste & "mid-fi" s/s gear, i feel the cf-4 is hard to beat & will best a lascalla anyday in all around performace & at a cheaper price. yes to each their own, thats the good thing about open forums, you can usually exchange opinions & ideas in a constructive way. happy listening.
  13. to each their own i guess. i have heard KLF30 & thought my cf-4 2 were better, but thats just my opinion, we all have them. too many variables to say one is "better" than the other. & neither of us can predict what 9 out of 10 other people would choose, but the minute i heard the klf's boxes rattle & hum i would choose the epics before even hearing them! i have read on here many members think the cf-4 is 2nd to only the k-horn. i agree the k-horn is the better speaker, but dollar for dollar the cf-4 is a close 2nd in many ways- you can use them in rooms without perfect corners, they have better imaging & the listening sweet spot isnt as critical, not to mention time alignment & a harsh mid of the k-horn that has been discussed countless times. i also agree the chorus may be a better or easily equal speaker to the epics, never doubted that, my comment was $900 for true series 1 cf-4 is a good value... much more rare than chorus too. & vs $2000+ for k horns & their limitations mentioned above, the cf-4 would do just fine in my book. opinions from most people are worth exactly .02 so yours is just as or no more correct than mine. i'm sure the new owner will love their new epics for many years to come.
  14. do you not like the cf-4's or feel they arent worth $899? they sold for $2500/pair new. have you heard the series 1 epics? just curious why you say that? Because I don't think they stand up well to LaScalas or Cornwalls, either of which you can get for $900 ok, if youve heard them & compared you are of course entitled to youre opinion. far from a bridge in brooklyn though.... lascalas for $900? battered & abused maybe.... common prices i see are more like $1100-$1500+ in good condition. aside from the rare fluke deals that pop up for all kinds of things because the seller is desperate or unaware of the market value.
  15. do you not like the cf-4's or feel they arent worth $899? they sold for $2500/pair new. have you heard the series 1 epics? just curious why you say that?
  16. thanks, i "knew" (thought) they would sell eventually. the auction didnt end "early" someone used buy it now for the $899 the seller had it set at, dont think it was an actual auction for a price to top out. the seller wanted what he wanted, $899. yes i'd be very happy with your cf-4's.... kind of regret selling mine after almost 15 years with them, but thought i wanted to "upgrade" to k-horns. while i do enjoy them, i should have kept the cf-4s & saved a bunch of money. & been more flexible with spacing etc.
  17. no sale?? shows sold for buy it now of $899. yay! im an expert on ancient klipsch speakers... or at least till the end of the month.
  18. i seen that this morning... that guy is either incredibly bored or incredibly stoned... or both!
  19. i say sale. the other auctions for 2 pairs were most likely series 3, not 2, based on the serial number/date. i recently sold my black series 2 for $850 locally in less than a week on CL... but they were mint with original boxes. if any of the watchers are nearby & know about the series 1 vs 2 & 3, these should be worth $899 all day long, especially in that nice of shape & oak finsih. the cf-4's are getting harder to find in any series. the series 1 are a great value at that price if someone really wants high quality for a good price. the low ballers & craigslist flippers will pass because there isnt much of a profit margin for them. but the guy that wants to keep them will be foolish to pass it up. they "should" sell... & if not the first week definantly the 2nd or 3rd week. plus this is a superbowl weekend & the midwest just got over a foot of snow so probably bad timing.
  20. ive read the posts comparing the 2 also, & many of the opinions say it was hard to tell the difference between them... maybe a slight edge to the 2's. of course some claim a big improvement but almost as many say very close & some like the originals better. freq range is about the same. i agree selling them is probably easiest, just wanted to put it out there incase anyone really wanted the originals or wants the walnut finish more than oak or to improve on the condition of theirs. probably have to be pretty close to avoid shipping or transport hassles too. so yeah... will probably end up just selling them when im ready.
  21. considering selling my forte 1's & was curious if anyone would be interested in an even up trade before i actually list them for sale? what i have: original fortes in oiled walnut in like new excellent condition. bought from the original owner, an elderly man that was selling because he was moving to an assisted living facility & could not keep them. he ONLY listened to classical music on them. funny story, when i was lookig at them i asked if i could remove one of the covers, his reply was, "those covers dont come off" i convinced him they did indeed come off & when removing them noticed how the pegs were VERY tight in the rubber inserts & hard to get started to pull off. the woofers had never seen daylight untill that day... he was surprised to see the horns & woofer. the woofer had probably never even moved from real volume or bass. the speakers are literally in mint condition & sound like new, i believe the woofers arent even broken in yet as the bass seemed to improve with light to medium volume classic rock played in the first few days. i have never heard the series 2 forte but cant imagine how they could improve much on the original, they sound incerdible... & i have owned many klipsch including k-horns & the big cf-4's among many others. pound for pound i think the fortes have to be one of if not the best speakers klipsch has ever made. what im looking for: a pair of forte 2's in either oiled walnut or oak finish. no black. no junk or beat up ones, average condition or above & working properly. so basically if anyone wnts to trade their nice forte 2's for minty forte1's reply here or by PM to discuss. if not, they may be up for sale in the near future. any & all opinions are welcome on a trade like this. thanks!
  22. incorrect info... the series 3 driver are not & never became klf woofers. ALL epic woofers use the stronger neodymium magnet, klf woofers are traditional magnets & different cone & surround materials. not sure where you heard they became klf woofers but thats news to me. i could be wrong but have never heard that in 15+ years of owning & researching epic speakers. the article is very informative though on the epic line. the change for the series 3 woofers was basically a lighter cone material to increase efficiency. they will work in series 1 & 2 but are not correct.
  23. i dont doubt there can be shill bidding on ebay, but keep in mind as a bidder i can simply enter my highest price i will pay for the auction & ebay will bid on my behalf automatically in increments, so when others place any bid lower than my max, they will instantly get outbid by "me", so it seems like shill bidding to the unknowing bidder or new bidder that isnt aware of that process. & there are bidding softwares out there that bid for you in the last seconds to win the auction. if someone wants it bad enough they will place a very high bid & let ebay do the work for them.
