  1. I just wanted to understand the difference cables/wires can make and why. I am not looking to spend $90 on cables, let alone $9,000. and I certainly do not want to be anyone's "hero" (except my son's and that never seems to happen)
  2. As someone who is new to all of this can someone explain what the differences between speaker cables are, or what difference cables from the amp to the preamp make? What could possibly justify a $9,000 cable? I have seen cable from $500 to $10,000 on AudiogoN. Just can't imagine.
  3. Thank you very much. I am not sure if you have had formal education as a trainer, but if not you have a talent for training and your tutorial is excellent! Thanks again.
  4. OK - My amp decision was made (kind of). I placed two "competitive' (read as buyer friendly) bids on Audiogon yesterday. I hoped that one might come through. One was for a PA90 with the "e' upgrade, and the other was for a PA80/80. Unfortunately, they were BOTH accepted. So now I have two tube amps. And with this, my purchasing days have come to a close. I am breathlessly anticipating the arrival of the Peach, which Mark will upgrade next week (thanks Mike) and the amps - one of which I will pickup on Saturday and the other is being shipped from Texas (if not Texas or Florida, where else?) Anyone have any experience with either of these VAC amps? Thanks
  5. Shakey, I was looking for speakers for a different part of the house. I had found two different sets that were older and not in as good a condition. My real dilemma was whether to spend less and get the older ones or to get these. I guess I am just thinking out loud and having fun, so I will be quiet now, as Sancho suggested. I do hope someone from the Forum gets these though as it seems like they are equivalent to a new pair.
  6. OK, so if I understand what you are saying, I should: 1. Buy the Cornwalls 2. Put myself out of my misery when I have come to understand what I have done. Any suggestions as to the best way to off myself? It's only money, and it ain't going with you......... Seriously, think of all the hours you will spend enjoying music. This time spent will prevent you from: a) getting into any trouble that you might have if you leave the house making other large purchases (i.e., expensive car, jewelry, clothes, etc..) c) sleepless nights thinkng about "the ones that got away"..... When you look at it from this perspective, you almost have no choice but to buy them...... Shakey Also: Having to go places with my wife that I do not want to go (I may be divorced) Gaining weight (I may not be able to afford food) Getting in a car accident (unless the repo man runs over me)
  7. Keeper of the Sound, forgive me - I am falling.
  8. Welcome to the sunshine Brother!!
  9. Sitting here drinking my Eight o O'clock coffee and trying to reconstruct my passwords. I kept them all in a password protected file, and you guessed it...I can't remember the password.
  10. FS: BOSE 901 Speakers (cheap)
  11. You have me confused with another deranged, out of control, Forum member.
  12. Does a wooden horn sound different than a fiberglass horn?

  14. As my friend Ross Perrot said, "I hear that giant sucking sound" pulling me towards Central Massachusetts. I cannot believe these have not sold yet. I keep doing the math in my head $4,000 - cost of new Cornwalls $ 320 - sales tax in New York _________ $4,300 -$1,700 Selling cost _________ $2,600 cost averted by buying these as compared to new. However: $1,700 - Cost of these Cornwalls $0000 - Cost of thinking with my head (the big one) and not buying ________ $1,700 - Cost averted...(but no Cornwalls) Geez, I wish someone would buys these!
  15. They look quite nice. http://buffalo.craigslist.org/ele/4385811896.html No Affiliation
  16. OK, but to quote my 7 year old, "You started it!" (working on my wave radio mod")
  17. Bose 901s, man I remember those back in my PX days, as I remember they were hanging on chains and in the 70s in the PI were $700. So adjusting for inflation, they would be about $1,600 now. I will sell you mine for half that!
  18. My 901's are cowering in a corner, sobbing. I hope you are all happy!
  19. Not impressed...I didn't see one 8 track tape player or a single cassette deck in any of these photos!
  20. Someone PLEASE buy these! They are too good a deal to pass up and I am too close, geographically. It is what the nuns use to call "an occasion of sin."
