do you have a link to that dave ? Mine is older optiflex 7010

Back up to $100. I am a simple guy and spend enough time screwing around with CAD programs and learn this and learn that and update all the time. I believe more than what is neccesary to do the job is inviting complications and more to fix and take care of and in this case does not gain me a thing to go down that road. A 2TB secondary hard drive and leaving my PC on when I want to play music is the way to go and I don't have all that other stuff to hook up set up fix up maintain and trouble shoot on down the road. Dell to Xilica to amps to speakers and I fail to see the need for more. Plus I get to mix and match or whip out Audacity and play with files if I want to. Really nice 6 core Intel 9 cpu boxes with 1tb ssd + 2tb secondary are maybe $700 now on dell refurb site and ONE device will do all that music stuff.

  2. I use a dell workstation. It has a Quadro graphics card which i never did figure out how to hook up to my Xilica. In the mean time I was wandering around the web one day and ran across a High Definiton software upgrade for the crummy Realtex sound card on my PC board. Installed the update and it was day and night different. I need nothing between my PC and the Xilica now and the sound is quality is superb and can output 192khz at 24 bit. Free from your sound cards web site the very best thing you can do.

  3. I have about given up on 402's and I m in the market for 6 of them right now. Looking at alternatives to buying 402's or 510's new from Klipsch because it runs the price up on selling used gear. Surely here is a horn lens and driver out there new that would sound as good for less. The 510 I mean not the 402.

To the OP and his original question, re-read what GLENS wrote in his first post.

Personally, I think you  are seeking a solution in search of a problem. The bass is fine on the Chorus. There are other things that I would tackle first.

    Good luck,

    -Tom

I have to admit I would not change out the woofer either. Do a recap and maybe replace the tweeter and that is all I ever do with these.

A good pro sound engineer should know how not to stress out the design.

Most pro sound equipment needs specific high pass, low pass filters that determine the amount of voltage it can take.

A determined dummy at home could blow something out with a 100 watt amp i suppose.

This was kind of my point when I mentioned the crossovers were different and the wattage ratings are too. Roy has mentioned that all pro speakers have greater headroom than homeowner types.

  6. Here is something to consider. The KP-301 is basically the same driver set but rated for 200 watts vs 100 for the Chorus and the only difference I can see is the crossover.  Perhaps changing the crossover would be best and I can tell you those 301's are more speaker.

I assume these are the same ones on ebay in Parkland IL. You can do better for $440. These have been pieced together with spare parts.

    Hard pass.

YES to hard pass. You don't want to pay for someones Frankenstein when the electrodes may be ready to fall off.

  8. For the bass bin or the whole setup with I assume your K-402's on top? If just an LF crossover I would like to see a picture of it and a list of components. Are you using the Klipsch PEQ's for the bins?

I have to admit I got one running tonight with the PEQ's in the Xilica for the S-MWM and probably not optimal but hate (no I don't I loved it) to say the S-MWM is clearly better. That may change as I get time to dial the 415's in and get a horn on top to go with them.

@Dave A got mine going this morning and man for direct radiators these babies play cleeeean. They far exceeded my expectations. They come alive when you get above 90db.

OK did you jump the two woofer sets together off one amp or use two amps? Let me rephrase that. Did you use one channel per pair of woofers or tie them together and use one channel per bass bin?

  10. Chris this is what I built those S-MWM's for. You are in for a real treat this spring and bring your best recordings and sit next to the 32' pipes with me. I love to see the look on peoples faces when they hear them. Had a guy over this week whose children had bought he and his wife a trip to England. Every afternoon some of the big old churches would have a short organ recital and he said it was like being there live again.

  11. I really expect to end up there if I insist on selling those 415's as a complete system. Another thing I am going to try is putting a B&C de-1085 driver on those 510 similar horns for sale on EBay and see how that does. I figure if an 1132 on a horn was good enough for two woofer bins maybe a driver with three times the output in watts, 280 to be exact, will be enough to keep up and still sound good. After all those KPT-456's sound really good but a 402 would be much better I am sure. I have a hard time figuring out what people are willing to pay sometimes. The EBay horn and B&C driver would be more economical but those bins did come with 402's.

It'd be alright for a quick spot-check or similar use.  Definitely not for any part of a comprehensive, iterative process except the very initial stages, perhaps.

Although I'm sure there are as many people with perfect muscle memory as there are with perfect aural memory...

Whats comprehensive and interative? I don't understand big words.

  13. Another pile, not 415's though, shows up next week. See I am not like Westcoastdrums though and keeping it all a secret until the walls of my shop start bulging out. I am a nice guy and let you know temptation is lurking about.

Honestly though I don't have the problem it's the guys who will be finding places to put these that will have the problems. I have plenty of storage and a forklift. They have desires and most of them wives with speaker evil eyes.
