The very very big one I worry about is Yellowstone. It's only 40,000 years overdue. The USA would be history.

That is one of those things where its not even worth having a contingency plan for... because there would be nobody to carry out the plan.

A new ad has popped up on Craigslist, a pair of Heresy's for $250.  Wow.  Now what do I pick?

I agree with WVU on this one, $250 is a steal for Heresy's. As for the other speakers it depends on what type of music you listen to. The Heresy's really excel in the mid range and being detailed and accurate. The bass is 'snappy' and good for rock and acoustic music but can be lacking without a subwoofer with really bass heavy music. The KG 5.5's are a really fun speaker but are much more geared toward hip hop and electronic music. They absolutely pound bass and have a 'open' sound but dont have that same mid range presence that Heresy's will have.

--- worked with Germans for thirty years -- they do a fair job themselves --

Interesting story: During WWI a group of Finns went to Germany to train to be 'Jager' soldiers in the German Army. Some fought on the front lines then after the war returned to Finland with military experience to help fight for their independence from Russia. They must have done a good job too because there are some pretty crazy stories of what the Finns did to the Soviets during the Winter war.

Have you ever tried Titanium?  I had some last weekend and couldn't believe how smooth it was.

I have not tried that one, I will have to check it out. Lol when I was in college these Mexican guys lived next door to my apartment and they would always hang out in the lawn on Fridays drinking Corralejo Tequila Reposado with Squirt. Every d@mn time they would somehow con me into taking a shot on my way to class. 😁

  5. Now that its warming up, I do really enjoy a good sipping tequila. Here is one of my favorites:

    Casamigos Reposado.

It strikes a fine balance between floral notes and the smoke flavors from the barrel aging.

Ayinger is amazing beer and is Bavaria's finest in my opinion. My favorite is their Ur-Weisse, its a darker German wheat beer and my all time favorite for summers.

Right on. I was in denial and was hoping they didn't mess the order up.  I am shipping one back and get the matching consecutive number for the other.   Best,

That is a good decision. Having mis-matched veneer will always bother you when you look at them and will greatly hurt the resale value.

Class A is class A and depending on your hearing you should hear a big difference in quality of sound. You may want to catch up on this thread for better D amplifiers. The TPA3255 boards are far above the little tripath chips. I built a much larger amplifier using the 2050 chip in the Hifimediy boards. Really good, comparable to the TPA3255 but I would give the edge to the TPA3255.

This looks intriguing. Is this is board you are talking about?

---- and to add - I see the Lepai sells for less than a hundred bucks. Without being condescending in any way the amps I mentioned are dozens of times more expensive and should should perform better, way much better. But I'd bet a dollar to a donut they don't sound dozens of times better. For the money the Lepai seems a no-brainier. A friend of mine has a first generation Red Wine amp using the Tripath chip still keeps it after buying/selling literally dozens of amps that are far more expensive. So much synergy is involved that one never knows what fills the bill and works to satisfaction. And some never learn -- (yes a finger is pointed back at me) ?!!

Thank you for the input, the Lepai 202A+ was about $25 when I bought it so definitely not the same league as $600 amps. It is actually becoming a rarity too since Tripath stopped making the chips. I had one just die on my in my office setup which was a bummer. In any case my birthday is coming up and its a tossup between this amp build or a Cinema F-20 to go with my LaScalas and maybe even a Qtr-Pie bass horn setup. I think I am going to go with the speaker upgrades and keep my amp as it is for now.

  10. For those that are familiar with quality Class D amps, how does the ACA amp stand up? Is it a significant improvement or just marginal? I am really happy with my Lepai 2020A+ but this kit looks interesting.

  11. You can always build your own chassis out of wood and metal. If I were to build this amp, I think I would model the chassis off the beautiful Toolshed Audio amps but have heat sinks run along the top instead of tubes:

    image.png.ac55dfc0a8905185a4d71b059113d37b.png

This is actually a cool looking one that could come out of the top, maybe get two to mirror each other:

  12. I found the best DIY way to isolate a subwoofer is to get a cheap foam roller that people use to get knots out of their back then cut it into four 3'' slices and put that under your sub. I did that with my 15'' Dayton Audio reference sub and it really helped clean up the sound when I had wood floors.

talked to a friend that moved from that area a couple years ago. His place was 5 miles from the center of action. He was saying a friend post on FB a crack in his yard belching hot ... and deciding to bug out.

Another friend, on Maui was saying the vog is getting there.

if there is an up side to this event ... It isn't doing a lot suddenly. So far, no explosive eruption.

kinda of related.... what is happening with the observatory? I don't imagine they are getting much done with the ground shaking. Or the vog, I would suppose?

Its probably good that its letting out pressure slowly. A Mt. St. Helens type of event would pretty much wipe out Hawaii although its my understanding they are different types of volcanoes. Now if Mt. Rainier decided to go...

Onkyo 9070. worked perfect with my Heresy's.

check this one out. worked amazingly with my heresy's. pm me if interested

This looks like a really good option. The fiber optic input wont be able to handle the more modern movie sound decoding for lossless blue-Ray and 4K but if you are more interested in music then this should not be a problem.

  15. That is really crazy. I think the slowness is what really makes it strange. With a forest fire you have to get out of the area and it blows through but with lava you can literally sit in a lawn chair with a beer and watch the inevitable destruction creep toward your house.  I am glad there have been no injuries so far. I looked it up and I guess that they do provide plenty of warning and educate the risks when you buy a property in this area.

Hi ! That is a great wealth of Information that you have put. A lot of terms that you have used I am not familiar with like for e.g. You kept saying Lascalas ? what is that is that a speaker name or  Sub Name ? You also mentioned "KG 5.5", "18'' flat packs with an INuke amp and a flat pack 15'' sub with an INuke 1000 ? what is it ? I have no idea what is it ? So can you please tell me what is it ? And you picked up my pulse pretty accurately, I am not trying to create a RAVE CAVE where people and come Dance. No that is certainly not what I am trying to do, all that I am trying to do is in a room size of 10x12=120 Sqaure Feet, when I play Electronic BASS with Pounding BASS it sounds so pretty damn good to someone especially to me, that it kind of reminds of a dance club that is what I am trying to say. So please take the "Dance Club" word metaphorically and not literally !! With a MAX Budget of $2000 USD how far can I go ? And wI would also not like to get any Professional Audio stuff. We are talking a room size of 10x12 that is such a tiny room. Why do you need all Guns Blazing in such a small area. But yes the experience has to be like a small dance room 😀 I dont know if it makes sense to you guys ! lol !

Hey sorry, we throw a lot of terms around here. The LaScala is a heritage speaker and one of the original designs that the founder Paul Klipsch designed himself. They usually run around $900 to $1500 on the used market depending on condition. They have extremely high efficiency and but do not have a lot of bass without a subwoofer. The KG 5.5 is a discontinued speaker but was their top of the line model in the 90s. I have both models and for electronic music the KG 5.5 are my favorite speaker with ridiculous amounts of bass and a very 'open' sound.

$2,000 is a healthy budget and you can do a lot with that. Regarding subs, the best bang for the buck is what is known as a 'flat pack'. The company ships you the subwoofer driver and the cabinet comes in pre-cut pieces that need to be glued together. If you have some basic experience with woodworking its a pretty easy project as the pieces are CNC cut and fit together perfectly. Here is a link to the 18'' pack for $385:

    https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-18-reference-series-ho-subwoofer-and-cabinet-bundle--300-7094

Here is a good $1,000 watt plate amp for $334:

    https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-spa1000-1000w-subwoofer-plate-amplifier--300-809

There are cheaper amps such as the venerable INuke for about $150 but it is not 'plug and play' like the other amp and I would not recommend it unless you have some knowledge of electronics and connections. It is a pro audio amp so you will need special adapters etc:

    https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-NU1000-BEHRINGER-iNUKE/dp/B00LGNFALY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525705024&sr=8-1&keywords=inuke

I dont know too much about off the shelf subwoofers but others here can point you in the right direction.

As for speakers, the Sixes are great for what they are meant for which is a standalone 2 channel system but are really not what you are looking for. The Forte III are incredible but as you mentioned are above your price range. Klipsch.com has some good sales right now and the RP-280 will be a very god choice for your setup. These are more or less the modern equivalent to the KG 5.5s The Piano Black looks very slick as well:

    https://www.klipsch.com/products/rp-280f-piano-black

These will run you about $1,200 for the set.

If you get 2 of these 12'' subwoofers for $700 total it will put you right about at your budget and dual 12'' subs running 800W will be plenty for your room:

If you let us know your location, we can help you look at some used options as well.

  17. Hi Musicdude, welcome to the forum! You have a good system picked out so far. Here are some suggestions:

The pre-amp you have is only to bring the phono-level up to a line level signal so you still need a standalone amp.  So your chain will be:

Cartridge --> Phono amp--> Power Amp --> Speakers

Here is a good little Class D desktop amp for about $80 that would look nice sitting next to your turntable (it is out of stock but will be in next week):

    https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dta-120-class-t-mini-amplifier-60-wpc--300-3800

Those R-15M speakers are rear ported so make sure they are at least 12'' from the back wall to maximize bass response. They wont dig deep but will have a snappy bass to them based on the reviews I have seen. If you want to add a sub, there are plenty of options as well.

The A/4500 cross and the CT125 tweeters are absolutely an upgrade, and not merely factory "replacements"....And at $1900, I don't think they are trying too hard to recoup the cost.

I agree on both accounts. LaScalas in good shape typically go for around $1300 and Belles are a rare and fairly sought after speaker.
